  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Sqwert, did you read the book? I am amazed that it hasn't stirred up more controversy than it has... No I haven't. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) When will you get the point that it's not the government's f***ing place to tell us this kind of crap? While not a government official, Michelle My Belle is hypocritical as hell. Do I think it's a good idea? Sure. But AGAIN it's not the government's place to do this. I miss the good old days of you going ape s*** when Nancy Reagen would tell us not to use drugs.
  2. Other than you greg, I don't recall ever hearing from anyone that Ozzie is terrific at putting together a lineup.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) I find that statement laughable. There are only so many people to choose from to make up a lineup on this offensively-challenged team (except on nights it hits four home runs in one inning). If he plays Jones, somebody b****es. He plays the other option Kotsay and somebody b****es. Or bats Kotsay too high. Not everybody can bat ninth, folks. I know ... I know ... Ozzie wanted this roster of players. On and on. People wanted Oz fired the night he sat both Rios and Paulie, even though we won the game and the next day a "rested" Rios and Paulie helped us win another game. Perfect example: Pierre's career numbers vs Lilly are the best on our team yet Ozzie benched him. Luckily he brought him in the 9th to get the only hit off Lilly.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) Ozzie did that a lot with Podsednik/Iguchi in 2005 though too. It's still the wrong move.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) I find it absurd that people were mocking his great catch and saying negative things about a guy absolutely on fire and a team on fire. People are still b****ing in every game thread about the lineup when the lineup is posted. It's a lineup that has helped the team to a 25-5 stretch. Folks, this is team is on the most impressive single stretch in team history. Quentin has had an absolutely incredible stretch and people are ragging his defense? WTF. I'm not saying negative posts aren't good. Today upon reading this thread, however, I wasn't in the mood for one with the team and the subject of the negativity SO f***ING HOT!!! False Going 17-1 16-1 to finish out the 2005 regular and post season combined is quite a bit better.

  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Yeah, it's pretty expensive, and half the stuff I haven't seen since I was a little kid or have never heard of at all. But I think it's probably worth it in the long run. We are spoiled because our food in this country is so cheap; but it's also not as good as the food our parents and our grandparents were able to buy. Because of the way our huge-scale farms have degraded the soil and focused only on the highest yielding strains of crops, we're basically eating produce that is on average, 1/4-1/2 as nutritious as the same produce was 50 years ago. So evidently, while non-organic stuff is much cheaper, it's also much less nutritious. I have come to the conclusion that I'd rather pay more for the food I eat now and hopefully avoid some of the health issues I have down the road. Ditto
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) How has that worked for you? I know it's certian to be different here, but my worry has been that I'd wind up getting lots of stuff at one time that I wouldn't use, or that I'd wind up throwing out like 1/2 of the stuff I get because i'm forced to take what's there. We're sharing a box with another couple and split everything each week. At the pickup location there's a swap box where you can swap things from your box with things that other people don't want. That's worked very well for us. Last week we exchanged a s***load of green onions for some additional broccoli. They also provided us with a great farmer's market cookbook that has recipes for all the things they offer. And if we have things we're probably not going to get to we just juice it in our Jack Lalanne juicer.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) So this thread inspired me to finally read In Defense of Food, and it scared the s*** out of me. So today was my first time shopping at Whole Foods Market. It was as if I had never been grocery shopping before. I dunno how I feel... We started doing a CSA this year. Here's one that has drop offs in Vegas: http://www.localharvest.org/csa/M25638

    Daniel Tosh is the king of hosts on Comedy Central.
  11. Defense never matters as long as you can make the Web Gems™ once per season.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) ^Oswalt's been pretty good this year. For real. ERA+ of 134 WHIP of 1.050 K/9 of 8.4
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I'm pretty sure Quentin would be far more valuable as a DH than a right fielder. Quentin's current WAR: 0.2 Quentin's WAR as a DH with same numbers: 1.2 It's a one win difference. By him not DHing, it has cost the team a whole win share, or 10 runs created. If you can go get a David DeJesus to play right field, it would affect both the DH position by inserting Quentin there, our right field defense, and a good top of the order bat. FYI, BoSox and Royals talking about a possible DeJesus deal.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Then people could b**** about a rightfielder who can't field and can't hit. Oh wait, that's what you are saying Quentin is(was). Your reactions seem as though you're taking all of this criticism personally.

    Really digging Big Boi's new album.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) Yep, and it's pretty accurate. His defense is so amazingly bad that a lot of the runs his offense creates are just making up for the ones his defense gives up. If he continues hitting like he has recently, that point will become less and less true, and we can only hope that's the case. But as of now, the point still stands. You're really reaching there. You think his defense has allowed approximately 50 runs so far?

  19. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Could someone in a nutshell explain to me, besides that it's a Dem® President doing it, that forcing BP to put $$$$$$ up to pay for damages is a bad thing? Something to do with Nazis or socialism I think.

  22. R.I.P. On a side note we'll be hearing the rest of the year how the Yanks will be a team of destiny, winning one more for ol' George.

    Big fan of The Whistler.
  24. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) The Rockies DID win 21 of 22 - they won 14 of 15 to take the Wild Card - then won their first 7 playoff games before being swept by PEDSox. Yeah but the question proposed was if there was another team that came back from such a large deficit in the first half of the season and get into first place by the all star break.
