  1. And I'm sure if you asked most people who they would help from a burning building, their dog or a serial pedophile, most people would choose their dog.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Very solid post, and not simply because I agree with you for the most part, but because it is a well-reasoned and well-thought out response and conclusion. The one point I do question is the concluding statement of your first paragraph. From a purely philosophical standpoint, I am not sure why it is more of a tragedy for one human being to die than hundreds of dogs. I am not in the business of weighing the lives of one creature against another, or in this case, hundreds of creatures again one, but why is it such an easy conclusion for humans to judge the value of one species against another? What are the criterion for making such a judgment? Anyways, not looking to turn this into a philosophical bs discussion that gets us nowhere. It's just the idea that humans make the immediate assumption that a human's life is so much more valuable than the life of another creature seems arrogant to me. Speciesism 101
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Also, like in 2003, I think this team could make a serious run if it just found a way to get in. I don't understand this statement. We have been inconsistent all year long. What would change in the post season when we face the opposing team's best pitchers?
  4. QUOTE (Nixon @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) hit me! alt0782 at gmail with the dot com. Oh so you're the one that took my first email address choice with gmail. Now I'm stuck with alt0783.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Ozzie is learning!! Didn't catch the game yesterday. Was Pods in CF?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) Did you watch the short film that inspired the feature film? No but I want to.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) District 9 - great film! So refreshing to see something other than a cookie cutter Hollywood sci-fi action flick.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) But it seems a little hypocritical in a national that processes animals from conception to our plates like a manufacturing plant, we are a tad sensitive about some animals. I call it moral schizophrenia.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) His decision to get intoxicated was done sober. A majority of people decide to get intoxicated. We don't do so to hopefully kill someone.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) He purposefully drove while intoxicated. His decision was made while intoxicated. Vick's was made while sober.
  12. Expectations might be a bit high. We're trotting out a guy that's 4-11 with an ERA over 5 every 5th day. Our closer doesn't scare anybody. Our defense is awful. We arguably have no one having an all star caliber type season.
  13. Quite possibly
  14. Out of the question!
  15. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) There seems to be a general feeling like 2003/2004, where the talent is there but there is a lack of motivation or hunger. Bingo
  16. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) LOL I never worry Must have misunderstood the tone from your previous post.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Just thinking to myself, what the hell did I start? Killing time is cool with me so don't worry.
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) I can't even stand it anymore. I am going to put someone on ignore on Soxtalk for the first time ever. Oh come on now. Greg is a very entertaining member of Soxtalk.
  19. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) the Sox should be able to take care of business against the Royals Cleveland and KC are very capable of beating a .500 ball club, which in essence is Detroit and the Sox.
  20. Here's a chance to actually gain some ground on Detroit. Hopefully Mark brought some of that Seattle water he was drinking last week.
  21. Hopefully he wasn't driving.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) Obviously I wanted to see District 9 this weekend, and will do so with some buddies this week. That being said, I owed one to my wife and saw "The Time Traveler's Wife". It was a f***ing good movie. I held back the tears, too. Call me what you will, though, that movie was great. Oh we will.
  23. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) Yeah, I don't think you will ever see an entire board on a spreadsheet...it would be too small. The thing I really want to know is who has picked which positions and I have that tracking at the top. I find that pretty valuable in determining if I can wait an extra rd before making a pick. You can see almost 3 rounds at a time on this and if a player is picked twice it will highlight both names...I wanted to make it scream IDIOT at that point, but figured it was overkill. Looked it over just now. Nice job!
  24. Sure this is most likely very minor but another reason I worry about signing him over Dye next season. The guy is on the field a total of about 5 cumulative minutes per game and still gets injured.
