QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 07:29 AM) She wasn't up there to gain the votes of the educated, she was up there to get the votes of the emotional, non educated people, and her speech was taylored and literally dumbed down to that. And, again, I think it was written in a way to mock RSO's speech from last week, on purpose. You do know that a majority of the speech was written before she was selected the VP, right?
-
And it seemed like she was reading a wikipedia page about Iran and other countries. The Daily Show ripped her on that one last night.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 06:20 AM) OK so, I recorded Palin's speech (I hope). Haven't seen it yet. ANy impressions, thoughts? The MSM and their left-wing bias is doing nothing but slobbering all over her speech. I can't recall any VP candidate ever getting such positive coverage. She did a fine job of reading what was mostly written before she was even selected as VP. Granted she was a television anchor so she has experience reading from a teleprompter. It was purely a red meat speech. I'm not sure it really convinced people as to why McCain and Palin will be good for the country or better than Obama/Biden. It was a lot of one liners and snark with a condescending tone. But hey I'm a liberal so what did you expect to hear from me?

First the $500 shoes and then the 7, or is it 8, homes. Now this... I can see why they are labeling Obama the elitist. Most people can relate to the lifestyle of the McCains and their private fleet of jets.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:32 PM) We all knew Huck was telling a whopper when he stated that Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States." But, I had no Idea how off-base he was. Or how few people it actually took to vote this nasty woman into mayoral office. The reality, then, is that Barracuda got just over 2% of the votes running for mayor of Frozen Mayberry that Biden did in the primaries before bowing out. Sounds like Huck has got a bad case of Karl Rove Math. Dang. He wasn't even almost correct in his lie.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) I think people are overestimating what it takes to stand up in front of a large group of strangers and make a speech. Memorizing a speech is one thing, being able to stand up and deliver the content fluidly is another. I have spent a lot of my career speaking at conferences, and in front of large amounts of people. There is a difference when you have a small room of a hundred, and another when you are on a stage with a wireless headset speaking to a large auditorium being video broadcast. No doubt.

And this is from McCain's national campaign co-chair, Meg Whitman: LINK

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Im not gonna say my point isnt stupid, I know it is. I just think its stupid to assume a countries power might be lacking if it isnt the size of Russian, especially when they have nuclear weapons. Im admitting its a stupid argument, it was more ribbing for people criticizing Alaska, but will you at least for diplomacy admit he was in fact talking about the physical size of Iran, because you know he was. I never felt he was.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) No, he said it was a smaller country than Russia and thats why it posed less of a threat. Really? He stated that only due to its smaller land mass it was less of a threat than the Soviet Empire? The same Soviet Empire that had a stockpile of hundreds, if not thousands, of nuclear warheads aimed at the U.S.? Interesting.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Obama clearly used the size of Iran as reasoning why they arent a threat. No he didn't. He stated that Iran was nothing compared to the Soviet Union in its hayday.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) What does RSO stand for? I know it means Obama though, and his list of accomplishments is about as long as the line of Chicago Cubs championship banners. What exactly has McCain really accomplished in 26 years in office? I mean honestly.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) ...so some people that are intelligent enough to recognize mcCain's complete joke of accomplishments, policies, and voting record, will still vote for him because they at least like the guy (sadly that plays a huge part at the end of the day). Fixed

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) Can Palin be a mother and a vice president? The left would normally scoff at such a question. This was part of the feminist fight...the liberal fight for women. (Those on the right just wanted them home, pregnant, and in the kitchen.) The opportunity for both a career and a family and not having to chose between the two. That was the goal. So liberals are all for the advancement of women, but only one that fits their mold. Shouldn't use blanket statements like that. I'm part of the "left" and that question has not even crossed my mind. There are about 100 other questions that have though.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Ha, this is the 2nd Palin thread... she is a b**** for allowing aerial hunting, and thinking wolves will not become endangered though... I can't help but to think of President Camacho in "Idiocracy" when I saw the photo of her in fur coats and holding a machine gun. WTF is wrong with our country?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) Do you know if there is going to be a rerun on anytime soon? I went out drinking and forgot about the episode. They typically air it again on Friday and/or Sunday night.

And it's the 47th most populated state but who's counting?
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Am I hearing things, or when Obama and company talk about Palin, they refer to her as the mayor of a small town? Why do they keep ignoring that she was governor of a state, with a budget of like $4 billion? I know his campaign has raised alot of money, but not THAt much. The entire population of Alaska is comparable to a slightly larger than medium sized city.

FYI - I made the same post in the Dem thread.

QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Being the last season..they still have a few questions to answer so it should be a very entertaining season all the way through. I enjoyed the premiere. Looks like there's a ton of action slated for the final season.
-
And I also think it's the tens of millions of supporters that make him look like a celebrity. Can't blame this all on a handful of pundits.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) i think it is the constant genuflecting by the pundits with tingles going up their legs, celebs wearing his t-shirts and sendinghiim personal emails, etc. that have painted him as a celebrity, not the McCain camp. They are just pointing and saying "See? We told you!" Their campaign spent millions of dollars on an ad focused on Obama as a celebrity.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) So what if her daughter is preganant, guess what, she's a teenager! That's a very strange line of thinking.
