  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) A lot of those thing I have no problem at all with them spending money on there should be a checkbox on your taxes, where you can pay more taxes to pay for that stuff and everyone else is not forced too. so if I someone refuses to pay 600k in taxes the feds won't care, as it's just a nickel out of their pocket.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) They are going to have a lot less time to read bills if you cut a bunch of their staffers. Just saying. they don't read them anyways.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Conversely...I could make an entirely serious argument that we'd save a crapload of money in the end if we paid Congresspeople 10x as much as we currently do, because they'd have much less need/interest to sell their souls you are assuming a corrupt politician's greed is not endless. likely, a false assumption.
  4. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) and we've only spent 100x that amount, each year, for the past 7 years, in Iraq. we should stop wasting money on frivalous stuff for our corrupt reps. i'm fine with ending all funding for the Iraq war too.
  5. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) You know what's probably more sad than the fact that the Obama administration handled this so poorly is that nobody is out there talking about whether or not people like Andrew Breitbart and Fox News who ran with this should be held accountable for running with this video in the first place. It's fraudulent journalism by a biased media with an axe to grind. It's just a shame that we only hear about that part of the story when the slant affects Republicans. are you serious? the story is everywhere and FOX news is getting hammered.
  6. Rowland Howard or Randy Rhoads
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) So using her job to abuse people based on racism is OK if they are sorry for it later? Well I guess it worked for Byrd... it might have been more of a case of intending to abuse based on race, then deciding not to. but i haven't seen the whole tape, so i don't know
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 06:13 PM) Seriously? I'm open to seeing the full context, but regardless of that context, I can't see how her words would be acceptable. from what i saw, she explains that she ended up helping the farmer and she was wrong with her initial prejudices. it was along the lines of helping people whom need help should not be about race. the controversial statements, for the most part, seem like they were the build up for the story.
  9. from what I'm seeing on the news, she should get her job back and is owed an apology.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) AJC how do you that is the person she was talking about? she has only worked one case? seriously, i don't know.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) How dumb are people? If you are in a position like that, you should assume anything you ever say to a group or in public has the potential to be recorded. i'm sure there is a lot more of that type of stuff going on, she was just so dumb that she decided to brag about it in front of a crowd.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Which is why the Tea Party movement scares the s*** out of the Democrats as it caters to those exact middle GOPers who don't want the government in their wallet or in their bedroom. true
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) Yes. Don't stop now boys is really annoying. ^^^
  14. market down big today
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) How is it false? Subsidized means using tax dollars against cost. That is exactly where 99%+ of the road funding comes from. I suppose I should have said your roads are 99% subsidized, not 100%. SOME of that money comes from TARGETED taxation - gas tax, etc., as you mention. Its still tax money. Except for those very few toll roads in the US, you don't pay for use. Virtually any train ride you take, you pay to ride. it's taxes directed at driving, which are used to fund roads. drivers pay a lot. your 1% number is not accurate. paying gas tax, paying tolls, and paying for licensing is the same thing as buying a ticket. just in a slightly more abstract sense. and again, no one is saying they pay for 100% of roads/highways. and again, i support a better public transportation system and always have. i support investing WISELY in a better system with tax payer money. you are arguing a point that is not being challenged.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:56 AM) Which is still hundreds of billions of dollars different than this "free" thing getting bandied about. shut down the roads. the economy will thrive on horse back.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) % of rail lines that generate revenue: near 100% % of roads that have tolls: ??? I'm sure its very small, single digits certainly. I was just pointing out that people seem to be in a bit of a fugue state about road versus rail funding. I am not against public transportation. anyways this is just false. you totally ignore gasoline tax and licensing fees. that was my point. everyone else seems to be telling you the same thing. but yes, roads do cost money and requiring additional funding. everyone knows this.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) rail actually generates some revenue on its own while the roads don't. they actually do. tolls bring in a lot of money as do all the license fees, sticker fees, gas tax, ect.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) I-55 is hell. I was stuck in traffic for 40 minutes to go 2 miles in the middle of nowhere i feel your pain
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) yet say nothing of the hundreds of billions spent every year on roads that they drive on without paying for it directly. i directly pay for it with the outrageous taxes I pay, the fees i pay , and when i pay tolls.
