Interesting Unemployment Numbers
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 19, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) China is a whole other animal though, they kind of cheat at this game. they really aren't that much 'worse' than a number of other countries that either have protectionist trade policies, currency manipulation, or heavy government subsidies for industry. i know they are a Dem punching bag due to them just destroying the unions manufacturing base here in the US.

Interesting Unemployment Numbers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Which others might argue is due to elimination of barriers that protect low-education jobs from being sent overseas while maintaining the barriers to protect high-education jobs. a lot of 'high-education' jobs have been going overseas the past 10 years or so.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 19, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) Oh yeah, Murtha's seat went to the DEM in the special election in 2008. This is the only district, by the way, that voted for Kerry in 2004 and McCain in 2008. If anti-Democrat sentiment can't win a GOP seat in a GOP leaning district this year, maybe the anti-Democrat sentiment is a bit overstated. the GOP still doesn't have a lot of public support. They think if they are just 'non-Democrats' they will win.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) http://www.zannel.com/viewupdate.htm?id=POZQU1 That's a picture of Arkansas senator Blanche Lincoln voting.... by provisional ballot because she had requested an absentee ballot to be sent to her home.... in Virginia. I predict a runoff. then a Blanche Lincoln win in the runoff. then she loses to whoever the GOP candidate is.

The score board is indeed badass. I would have one suggestion though, only have it on the home page of Soxtalk

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) And if we don't care about people willing to take less money than the market wage, why do we have a minimum wage? we'll have to get rid of that too. one of Balta's favorite sources for immigration data, CATO institute, would agree with removing minimum wage as well. they have a study showing that the minimum wage should be abolished and another study that suggests the US should go back to the gold standard.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) You know what other budget deficit we can blame on the Mexicans? Iceland's. Makes exactly as much sense as your point. Hey, I'm agreeing with you. I thought you guys had a big surplus. I don't see how you couldn't. Anyways, we should have a totally open boarder. Not only that, but since every immigrant that comes to the US is a big boost to the economy we should bring in billions from around the globe. Why discriminate against the rest of the world?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Factcheck has a piece calling out the people who continue to state that immigration is bad for jobs/workers/the economy/the budget. that would explain the super low unemployment rate and budget surplus in California. i wondered how they did it. now i know.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 12, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) I guess I'll be the one to post it, just padding my post count. Someone was gonna post it eventually. It's a legitimate campaign ad from Alabama. Yes, we live in that country. haha. that ad is hilarious.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 13, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Prohibits a school district or charter school from including in its program of instruction any courses or classes that: 1 Promote the overthrow of the United States government. Ok, sounds reasonable, no argument from me, in fact I wasn't even aware people really needed to be told not to do this 2 Promote resentment toward a race or class of people. Ok I guess, seen purely at face value, that's reasonable too, but sometimes when you look at history accurately, it's not pretty, and an argument can be made that teaching this could lead to resentment of a "race or class of people" (i.e., "I hate whitey because he snatched this land from my ancestors" or something like that) 3 Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group. What does this mean exactly? Is Hispanic history only for Hispanics? Is black history only for blacks? Isn't this purely subjective? 4 Advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals. Again, this means pretty much nothing and amounts to political grandstanding. I agree that history class is for learning history and not for teaching "pride" (incidentally, I wrote this on my Facebook status earlier today: "Pride is not a virtue, usually it's just a weak, and sometimes transparent, way of concealing a lack of legitimate reasons for justified self-worth") but we're not supposed to be teaching kids "how to be patriotic" in school either and we shouldn't be avoiding teaching facts just because they're inconvenient. agreed

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) So does copper. It's intrinsic or useful value outside of "looking pretty" isn't really all that much, which is why I don't get the people who think going back to a gold standard is the solution to many problems. ^^^

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) Too bad, I'm white, the exception is automatic. nope. sorry. you are in an unfortunate position. we have decided to revoke your whiteness; no more free pass, sorry bud. And yes we have a database to track you with the microchip implanted in your brain (tinfoil hats will not interfere with the signal so don't waste your time). you also get no minority preferences, because, well you are still technically white. USA!

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) By that phrase, of course, I meant "People who don't look like white males, age 21-64". It's obviously perfectly ok to come up with angry sounding legislation for people who don't look like that even if it doesn't do anything. It's the conservative way. i talked it over with the powers that be, and you still don't get an exception. you just gonna have to teach a different class.
