Hussein alleges he was beaten in captivity.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) But he wouldn't get tortured at The Hague or Europe, so we have to keep him!! -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) The only other option would be a UN special Tribunal, a-la Milosevic. Did the U.S. present that option? I havent' a clue, although I doubt it. I don't know if the US brought it up or not, I would think that there are legal scholars in Iraq that know this option exists. I am pretty sure that Iraq insisted on having the trial in Iraq (probably because they want to execute him). -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) Just out of curiosity, did we actually give the Iraqis the right to choose whether or not he should go to that court? I think we (United States) did. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) But they also don't like to bankrupt the government in order to give you more property or possessions. I far as I know, the Libertarian party is for very low tax rates and very low government spending... so I guess we're both right.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) Yeah, because there's clearly no difference between being tried by a European court than by an "International" court. I think Iraq has the right to try him in Iraq. If they want they can send it off to some 'international' court in Europe. Or maybe just give him a seat on the UN human rights council. lol -
QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) And just as with poorly-phrased public opinion poll questions, you'll get results that will be difficult to interpret, or that will be easy to misinterpret. Although the board demographic seems to be heavily skewed toward teenage and twenty-something males, this particular forum may not be totally representative of that. I think you should have allowed a Libertarian choice, since so many young guys trend that way these days until they start accumulating property, possessions, and offspring. the Libertarian party doesn't want your property, possessions or offspring. You have them confused with the Green party

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) Coulda. Shoulda. Woulda. It’s not about “his poor rights being trampled on.” It’s about providing an entire region with a shining example of the benefits of democracy. I was pretty surprised when I started studying up on this subject. I really had no idea of the skepticism or contempt with which MOST of the rest of the world views this trial. huh? Yea, put him on trial in Europe not Iraq. Good idea As far as a shining example of democracy, the people in that region don't want that. They want radical religious theocracies. Sooner or later mr.president may realize this. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 21, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) I don't believe this for a second. It would take 4/40 to even get Garland to think about signing right now. Garland is probably thinking he can get 20 wins this year. Looking for a 5 year 65 million dollar deal as a free agent.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Judge just fined the union 1 million dollars a day. ouch

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) How do you know he isn't giving money to these causes? Just cause he keeps some for himself? lol he better be giving some money with all the soap box ranting he does. the guy seems like a fraud to me, just in it for publicity. "ok Bono, the new U2 album is coming out...you know what to do". i'm done posting about bobo now.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Have you ever seen the White Sox pay a pitcher over 10 mil a season. It will not happen. They will have to pay market value to keep players.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) Yeah, let those people fend for themselves. Our world "leaders" will get around to addressing poverty when they're damn well ready to. huh? Oh yea, without that hypocritical hack Bono the world would be so much worse off. I got an idea 'Bono', how about give some of your billions to the starving instead of just your lip service. He, of course, won't. Bono feels he needs his mansions and jetliners more than the people he preaches about need food. Hells, even if only kept a million he would live comfortably. I don't have a problem with people keeping their own money, but I do have a problem when they b**** at everyone else and point fingers while they live a such a decedent life them self.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) And interestingly enough, that law would be passed with a Congressional pay raise, a suspension of Habeus Corpus, and a few tax cuts paper clipped to it.

Amputee vet running to replace Hyde in Congress

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Well she just announced her campaign two days ago. That will come. It's a track record that's better than most before they run for public office. George Bush was a failed oil man and minority partner in the Texas Rangers. Bill Frist was a Doctor and owned part of HCA. Arnold Schwarzenegger was a bodybuilder and a (bad) actor. Ted Kennedy was the brother of John and Robert. Jon Corzine ran Goldman Sachs. Frank Lautenberg founded ADP. If those are track records worthy, I'd say that hers is right up there. The amount of stuff you'd have to study and know and understand to effectively put together community service programs in the developing world would definitely qualify you for public office. lol I don't know if i would use that list to argue that unqualified people should be in public office. -

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Shoop had Miller do good for one year as well.. Look at the number of 93,94,96 then look at the numbers shoop was the OC.. Same stats.. the numbers don't lie.. Fire Turner NOW. In 93 Harbough was QB and he had a bad season. Maybe Turners fault, maybe not. in 94 Walsh was QB for most of the season. in 96 Kramer was injured. Dave Kreig had a decent year under the system (he was like 40 years old too). Steve Stenstrum and Shane Matthews combined for 3 starts as well. -

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) She's been a leader with Rotary in establishing community service programs in hotspots throughout Southeast Asia including East Timor. She's now a Major in the Illinois National Guard. Makes her as qualified as anyone else. She is, by definition, a leader. meh, maybe. I wouldn't vote for her just because of her community service record or the fact she is a major in the national guard. Seems like a fairly thin resume for congress, I would need to know about her views on issues and hear her defend these views. -

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) So she's a qualified person recruited to enter public service. I don't see the problem. why do you think she is qualified to be in congress? you may have stated earlier but i missed it. -

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Doesn't matter, The bears still have Ron Turner ..ak John shoop at the helm of the offense. Grossman full skills will never be used until Shoop v2 is gone. i don't think he's that bad Kramer seemed to do OK with Turner: "In 1995, with Erik Kramer at QB, the Bears set a team record for passing yards per game with 233.9 while compiling the fourth-most points in team history with 392. Kramer set club records with 29 TD passes (most) and 10 INTs (least among 16-game starters)" -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) To be honest, I am much to disgusted to care much about this person. If politics has gotten to the point where a major party has resorted to recruited amputee war vets to run for office, I'm really not interested in what the PR machine has to say about her. It was one thing to front a mom who lost her son in Iraq and use her to further your cause, it makes me ill that now we are moving onto the searching out the handicapped to do so. And to be honest I am surprised this doesn't offend you as the defender of the downtrodden and used. ^^^^^^^ -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) For those who haven't yet seen it...Time Magazine has chosen 3 people for their "Persons of the year" award (dammit, it should be people!) Sounds like a pretty good choice to me...continues to try to focus the world's attention on an issue that just can't get enough traction to save the lives which could be easily saved. oh, i can hardly wait for Bono to fly back to chicago in his private jet and preach to us about poor people.
