Well, 'Community', it's been too many bad episodes for too long. You are officially dropped. 'The Office' is following really closely. 'Parks & Rec', of course, rocked again last night.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:59 PM) Cutler was inthe dancing with the stars audience this week. Welcome to Monday night.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 03:09 AM) What do you think of the Hawks' goalie situation? How did Crawford play in the preseason? Is he an elite goalie or not? Do we still have a veteran backup? Where did last year's No. 2 go? Greg, Marty Turco was last year's #1 to start the season and quickly usurped by Corey Crawford. He now works for NHL Network! I never had much faith in Crawford, but he won me over with steady play. Goaltending remains a question mark simply because no one anywhere expected Crawford to be this productive between the pipes, but the Blackhawks look much better on that front than they have since the days of Eddie Belfour. Our backup, to start the season at least, is Ray Emery. Emery took over for Jonas Hiller who had vertigo issues last year in Anaheim, and was simply brilliant down the stretch (.928 save percentage), playing 10 games for the Ducks to finish out the year. The Hawks chose him over Salak simply because he had a 1-way contract, while Salak can use the seasoning and get every-day work in Rockford with the IceHogs without having to clear waivers. Speaking of Salak, he's the organization's first legit goaltending prospect, and was acquired in possibly my favorite trade the Hawks have ever made... sending of Jack Skille and two dudes I don't care about and receiving Michael Frolik and Salak. Hopefully he's as good as advertised, and he sure looked awesome in the preseason. #1 - Corey Crawford #2 - Ray Emery #3 - Alexander Salak This is the most excited I've been about goaltending in Chicago in a very, very long time.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Suunto makes some products for that as well that are quite good, but also pricey. Might want to check those out too. Thanks, man. I wound up going with the Suunto M5 and the foot pod. This will be perfect and much more suitable for her workout schedule (gym rat every morning, runs on weekends).
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Just was pointing out that Ventura made a lot more than Guillen. I thought it was a damn good line.

    Hilarious episode of Sunny tonight!
  7. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) Hockey's f***ing back. The end. Did you see that lead pass by Seguin? Kid's ready.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) I'd like to add...a few beers helped some. I'm still pissed off about this...but at least i have a few beers. I adore angry Balta.
  9. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Yep. This is certainly not the typical New Manager Introduction press conference. Everyone. It should certainly be noted that this was not a press conference. This was a media session done by telephone. It's sole purpose is for reporters to pick up quotes and bylines. It's very rare, and also very out of the ordinary, for something like that to be aired. I'm pretty surprised the Score put it on the airwaves.
  10. QUOTE (Wedge @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) Phil Rogers: "Sounds like you're in the deep end Robin" Robin: "Yup, but I can swim Phil." Is that Robin Ventura or JFP?
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) He's not coming across too well. Seems like both he and Kenny are stressing that he's going to need a lot of support. Not surprising, since he has no experience coaching (note - coaching, not managing) on any level.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) Steve, Maybe its because some of the most famous baseball managers were "player managers." I think its interesting (insert stupid) that people dont want to research the fact that there is almost 0 correlation between MLB managerial experience and success at the major league level. I think its interesting (insert stupid) that people dont believe Robin can be a good manager just because he hasnt been a coach. Whatever the facts, I really cant imagine anyone creating a good argument that MLB manager is harder than NBA/NFL. And thats the comparison. I find it truly interesting that you continue to only reply to my posts questioning the move, yet ignore all the posts that say I hope he does well and I love the man.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) What's giving me pause is that there has been the opposite of a backlash from those in the industry Yeah, I posted the Shawn Green quote. That was something.
  14. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Maybe it has to do with the fact that so many first time managers have had great success at the big league level like ....Ozzie Guillen. No managerial experience is quite different from no coaching experience.
  15. It's so difficult for me to separate my love of Ventura the player with my feelings on this move. I wish I could look at things through JR-colored glasses, but there's a reason managers are paid and there's a reason some are held in high-regard and some aren't. There's also a reason that you don't just hire someone who's never done anything remotely close to this job on any level. I have to imagine a lot in the industry are going to be pissed. I have to imagine the White Sox lost even more respect in baseball. I'd like to see a Riggleman or someone like that in as bench coach to guide Robin along. I hope Robin does great, of course, I just question the decision for an organization that has so much on the line after failing to do anything right lately.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) I wasn't endorsing that link, I was just posting it. Very few articles of analysis out there yet. The Chicago media is still figuring out how to spin it so it seems brilliant.
  17. I find it interesting that so many people are quick to point out that there's really not that much to managing a Major League Baseball game. I find it interesting how trivial so many think it to be, yet the manager is in charge of over 100 million dollars of contracts. I find it interesting how many people think having a manager is extremely unimportant, and that anyone could do the job. I find all of that very interesting. In this post, feel free to substitute the word "interesting" with the word "stupid".
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) http://scott-miller.blogs.cbssports.com/mc...270335/32541671
  19. shawngreen15 Shawn Green Congrats to Robin Ventura. Of all the players I played with, he would be my number 1 choice to manage a team
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) What I want to know, in this time of modern technology, "sources" everywhere with access to anything... HOW DID EVERYONE MISS THIS?!?! EVERYONE, EVERYONE!!!! had Martinez as the top Candidate. Ventura was never even mentioned once. That's Kenny's MO. Rarely do we hear what's happening, and rarely are rumors true.
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this be our Joe Girardi. That'd be tight.
  22. QUOTE (Real @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) if you're a fan of this, you don't know s***, and i'm being as honest as i can be. How about go f*** yourself and read some more posts of mine. I already stated this reeks of Vinny del Negro. Go watch replays of the Heat.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) If we signed anybody but Dave Martinez, people were going freak out. Dude, this statement is completely inaccurate.
