Straight Outta Compton is f***ing awesome.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) The Phantom Edit would be a lot better if it weren't just so. f***ing. orange. The 1080 one isn't orange...

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) McGregor was basically the only good part of the prequels. Give me a film on Tatooine where Maul comes to settle the score once and for all. Darth Maul was a good part of the prequels. Such a wasted villain.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) A little but Luke with basically no training was able to deflect shots from a remote, hit an incredibly small target with proton torpedoes without using any computer to aim and he also was able to grab his lightsaber using the force. And Rey not allowing Ren to read or control her mind is impressive but there have been non-force sensitive characters like Jabba who didn't allow mind control to work on them as well. I'm sure we will learn more of her backstory in the next movie as well. She also controlled a storm trooper's mind.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) I think it's hard to criticize much until we see the next 2. Some people don't like that Ren wasn't that powerful but he probably will be in ep 8 and more so in ep 9. I think the bigger issue was that Rei was so powerful without a moment's training.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) Yep. I would be interested to know how this movie landed for someone that did not see any previous movies. I'm sure it was similar to how much I enjoyed Abrams' Star Trek. Good popcorn flick, no chills. For me, watching this Star Wars film yielded plenty of chills, plenty of OMG moments, and just a few "wtf" moments. It was very well done.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) With the original trilogy, you really lived in the new planets, learned them like a new character. This hopped around too much, it was just scenery. Same issue with star trek. I don't feel like the Star Wars world has expanded. But yes, he basically cleansed the palette. And it certainly looked beautiful, the action was fantastic. The ty fighter - falcon chase was top notch entertainment. A very solid B.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) yup, i am going to see hateful 8 this afternoon. btw, that is a great picture of the star wars on your msg. Yeah, someone prettied up that scene from the movie. I just stole the wallpaper and made it sig sized. It's perty.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Basically what he did was try to erase the CGI bulls*** of the last 3 and go back to the gritty model/location based filming of 4-6 while basically repeating episode 4 as a nod to the original series and passing the baton. Nothing else really happened. They passed the baton in every single way and now we get to see Luke train the next him. It was a good and entertaining movie, but I was really hoping for a new plot or danger. I am hoping the next one is when we are exposed to something we havent seen before since he felt the need to basically make us forget about Epi 1-3. I also could have done without the lady behind me clapping whenever an old character showed up. LOL in my showing, the guy behind me was very excited to see that the island Luke was on was Ireland. He was "very sure it was Ireland, dude I've been to Ireland, well I haven't been right there, but that's Ireland I've been to Ireland. Dude that's so Ireland!" STFU man.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Not sure how those mistakes are being made at this level. Bulls had the ball with the game tied against Detroit. Rather than call Timeout and advance the ball to the front court, they threw it into Tony Snell for an 88 footer. Hoiberg has been disappointing to say the least. A 12 year old with a playstation knows to call the time out.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) It was Thibs time to go, but I sure as hell am not seeing what GarPax saw in Hoiberg. Gar saw the only person in basketball that thought he was deserving of respect.

Looks like we're deep into screener season. Guess I'll watch The Hateful Eight this week. Star Wars isn't releasing a screener for this very reason. Despite the fact that the best, highest-grossing movies never get any awards, this will further hurt their chances.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 21, 2015 -> 07:31 AM) It's almost a remake of episode 4. It was pretty good but didn't blow me away. Yeah, it seems like if we don't come in here and heap praise upon the film it means we aren't fans or didn't like the movie. I geeked out. I loved it. But it was a solid B due to a few flaws. Perhaps over time those flaws will be answered (save of course ANOTHER death star that's bigger and badder going down easier). I look forward to torrenting it and watching a few more times before the bluray release.

“You do hear a little bit of Yoda. You hear Luke yelling out, ‘Nooo!’ from that moment in Empire. And you hear Obi-Wan at the end say, ‘Rey … these are your first steps,’” Abrams says. “Here’s the cool part. We asked Ewan McGregor to come in and do the line. And he was awesome and we were very grateful. He was incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voice over actor ever.” http://www.ew.com/article/2015/12/20/jj-ab...s-force-awakens

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 11:50 PM) Nope. Not one single bit. Not even in the slightest. Not even for a quarter of a second. Not even a thought. But maybe that's because I've never seen Wall-E. Haha!

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Definitely. Well I mean jar jar was horribly written, but aside from that. Dude is there for comic relief. Completely disagree. He's more the Han Solo of the new trilogy there to point out how insane this all is. I couldn't disagree with you more.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Besides saying he took the ACT? He was a god damned child, then. Move on.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Yeah. Highly doubt he would not be playing now if he had double vision. Reggie Miller said his double vision lasted for 6 months after the same injury. Say what you will about Rose, he's never come across as a liar.

Solid B. Easily better than any of the prequels, but I have my gripes. - let's ditch the Death Star / Death Planet idea. Oh no! It's 10X the size!!!... And defeated easier than any Death Star before - she needs no training to become an elite Jedi standing toe to toe with Kylo Ren - Kylo Ren demasked was laughable. Nerd alert! Ok got the obvious out of the way. It was still awesome. They did an amazing job of bringing the old films back with upgraded visuals. I both get and don't get the need to kill Han Solo. I could've watched another 20 hours of this and didn't want it to end. That's obviously good. I almost feel like there was too much passing of the guard. Are we done with R2? I hope not. I felt too much emotion most of the evening so I'll let it ruminate. The death planet's ease of defeat was a problem, though. Oh and the big bad CGI lording over Ren and his buddy was kinda lame. They honestly shouldn't have removed Ren's mask. I will be interested to see why the opportunity for Ren to go to the Dark Side was even a thing. He had mom and dad. Maybe Han took away his PlayStation 22?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) He's a natural companion piece to Abreu in terms of teammates/camaraderie and marketing. I love this. They're from Cuba so they must be besties, eh? I guess every Domincan or even every American needs to get along? Abreu's arrival certainly helped Alexei mash!

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) So if two people in here see this before 12/19 and want to discuss it, let me know and I'll update the title to say BEGIN SPOILERS. I'll be seeing it tomorrow night at 11:30pm, so technically when I get home I'm allowed to post.
