  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Makes you wonder why Fields was brought up. Nix can spell Beckham at 3rd on occasion. I'm sure we'll see Fields at 1B as well.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) Maybe it's time for me to bow out. Nancy.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) Why would Dunn play over Paulie at 1st?To preserve Paulie's ancient-ness.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Why the f*** did we get Rios if he's not in CF? I knew this would happen. This totally devalues him.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) More from the Col press on the Hynick trade. They think it could backfire bigtime. "In Hynick, the Rockies had a brainy, 6-foot-3 prospect who has displayed a keen understanding of pitching at each level of his development. His strikeout numbers were never particularly impressive, but everything else about his game was. The 24-year-old former eighth-round pick walked just 119 batters in 580 minor-league innings and posted a 3.83 ERA in the hitting haven that is the Pacific Coast League. He’ll be best remembered for throwing the first perfect game in Sky Sox history, a seven-inning masterpiece against Portland in late June. Altitude kills some pitchers, Hynick seemed impervious (opponents were hitting .257 against him at home, .257 on the road). Even his perfect game came here in the Springs, a thousand feet above Denver. This ability to pitch in the thin air — where breaking balls lose their bite and location is at a premium — should not be taken lightly. Jhoulys Chacin and Esmil Rogers, a pair of prospects rated higher than Hynick, have not shown a knack for retiring hitters at altitude. In 36 combined innings in Denver and Colorado Springs they are 0-6 with 34 walks and a 10.50 ERA." http://skysox.freedomblogging.com/2009/08/...-surprise/1645/ Even in a seemingly failed season, KW has been impressive.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Hasn't Fields been pretty good in AAA? Who cares? He's still Josh Fields.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) We have a better chance at resigning Thome or Dye to reduced contracts then we do at paying Adam Dunn $10M. Just not happening. Not a good idea to buy high. KW will continue his bargain basement shopping looking for web gems. Odd use of the term.
  8. I must say, aside from the obvious, my favorite Jim Thome moment was in 2006, when we were ripping the Cardinals apart for the first two games of a three game set at the Cell. I was at all three games (dad is a huge Cards fan). The third game was different (and I went with a buddy instead of my old man). It was 0-0, in the 7th I think, and the Sox hadn't gotten a hit, let alone a run. Thome comes up, and just RIPS one to right field. f***ing gonzo. Sox win 1-0 on that, their only hit of the ballgame. Also, I'll never forget Spring Training 2006, and Thome's slow start, but then he hit like 8 bombs in the last 8 games and carried it into the season on a huge hotstreak. I was certain he'd park 50. Unfortunately, he got injured right around the All-Star Game and wasn't the same from there on out, which really hurt the Sox as they slid to third place. Still 42 bombs was a nice debut season from the big guy.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) If it's a serious question, that use of 'and' is seriously troublesome I'm a man but I will say that my wife has at times gotten on here and posted. So i guess yes you're right i'm male and female. I KNEW it. Thanks for clarifying that, sir.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) 15-20 some games in September should not be a basis for that decision, for anyone. Oh YOU. I'd SWEAR you're being SARCASTIC!
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Seeing how it all shook out ,i wouldve liked to have had Everett on the team in 2006. Just another yr of great quotes/stories perhaps. Joe Cowley has some story about Everett just coming up to him out of the blue and telling him 'ya gotta marry a big woman' and going on about it to like long explanation. I have an off-topic question. you've been posting here for awhile, and I have no idea if you are male and female. I see Princess Dye, and I assume female... or are you just a male trying to be funny? Serious question!
  12. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) Jenks, Danks, Floyd, and Quentin will cost us well over $20 million in arbitration next year (probably closer to $25 million). Considering Floyd is locked up and part of the guaranteed contracts we're talking about, your numbers are off.
  13. QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) Because we cannot see Jermaine's bat. No one's going to beat this, the first response.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Dunn = Thome on the bases and at the plate Right now he's actually quite a bit better than Thome, and the dude can actually run a bit and is pretty durable. Actually, we could throw Pauly at DH and Dunn at first.
  15. Nice work with the signature. Were you working on this before last night? I can just imagine your reaction to hearing that JD was readily available.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) My only problem with all of this is how will we get Castro his ABs? I'm just hoping we can try Tony Pena out in the closer role.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Call me crazy but I have a feeling Pena will have a nice season next year. You're crazy.
  18. I really hope Flowers plays tonight.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) ^^^^ That was Tony and Rowand's point. BTW Steve, I was all over the Dunn acquisition months ago.. where have you been.. you don't even notice me anymore.. I don't know how to answer this without seeming creepy.
  20. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) Keep in mind that Kenny is going to have to spend on the bullpen this off-season. Even if Kenny pays Jenks arbitration, the middle relief is still an absolute mess. Maybe we'll see another Linebrink contract or two.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) I'd offer Torres, Getz and Shelby. I'd be operating under the assumption that the Nats want to dump salary to make room for having the probable #1 pick in next years draft. That was the idea.
  22. The writing seems to be on the wall... the Sox will have $$ to spend and he fits exactly what we will need. I'm sure Washington would deal him.
  23. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Yep. Didn't Dye and Thome both slump down the stretch in 2006?It certainly wasn't Dye, who easily could have won AL MVP that year what with his .315 average, 44 homers, 120 rbi, .385 OBP, and 1.006 OPS.
