Intriguing Week Ahead...
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 26, 2006 -> 03:44 AM) IIRC their main trading chips from the farm will be Cameron Maybin (toolsy H.S OF) and Kyle Sleeth a RHSP. There's no way they'll be trading Zumaya or Verlander. But Dombromski should play his cards right and not put all of his eggs into 1 basket and go for the whole thing this season. With that young talent they've got, they could be around like Cleveland for the next few seasons. I think Zumaya could be used in a trade for Willis, no doubt.

Sox TV Ratings Up 25%
That's terrific news. The Sox seem to be doing a great job of marketing this team and it's nice to see the front office reaping the rewards for their hard work. Of course, it doesn't hurt when your team wins a world series and gets off to a great start, but still.

Thornton: Dedicated to improvement
If Coop is right and this guy can become an elite pitcher...what a steal. over his last 6 innings pitched he's given up 2 hits, no walks, no runs with 7 K's.

Maroth to see doctor
It's official, Maroth to the DL, they're recalling Spurling. Grilli will get the starts, Leyland wants to keep Colon in the pen.

Maroth to see doctor
Apparently he's been battling elbow problems again. link not a good sign going into the stretch they've got over the next 13 games...

Intriguing Week Ahead...
I'd also bet the Tigers will be active players around the trade deadline, with some tantalizing young talent to bargain with.

Tribune Cubs Beat guy Paul Sullivan on "hiatus"
what happened to Morrisey? He hasn't written anything in awhile - zip on the sox/cubs series.

Intriguing Week Ahead...
We'll see what Detroit's made of this week and the next two when they go: 3 vs. CLE 4 vs. NYY 3 vs. BOS 3 vs. SOX The tribe, which is showing some signs of life again, could plunge into a deep double digit deficit with seven games against the Sox and kitties. Or find themselves right back in the race. A great transition into June...

Enron verdict coming in.
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Current guesstimates are on the order of 20-30 year sentences. The State of California finally gets a little bit of payback, thanks to the Feds. wonder if Gray Davis will get his job back now?

Hastert under investigation in bribery scandal
QUOTE(Texsox @ May 24, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) Damn, I like the guy. I really am sad whenever any of our leaders let us down so I hope this is all smoke and bulls***. Hastert characterized opposition to the war in Iraq by members of congress as "treasonous". Treason is punishable by death. Hardly a likeable quality, IMO.

I found this website...everyone needs to see
Zorn's piece in the trib last November pretty much summed it up better than anything I've ever seen, pointing out the absurdity of his ramblings throughout the course of the year, starting with the off season ridicule of signing Jermaine Dye. Yet, for the same reason I like watching shirtless rednecks dragged from their trailers on COPS, I continue to read Mariotti. Nuts.

Buehrle vs. Zito
The A's TV crew had a very interesting comparison tonight of Zito and Buehrle. They've both played six seasons in the league but Zito gets far more pub. Take a look at the numbers, however: Buehrle: AGE: 27 ERA 3.58 RECORD 91-55 IP 1292.2 GS 182 Zito: AGE: 28 ERA 3.48 RECORD 89-56 IP 1270.1 GS 198 Very comparable, but when you factor in that Zito's had 16 more starts and played on arguably better teams over the last 6 years, the edge goes to Mark.

Athletics vs. White Sox
someone threw beer on Kotsay. JD's hitting .250 in May...but they seem to have all been big hits

Athletics vs. White Sox
dj with the "he gone"

Athletics vs. White Sox
I'm calling it - Cintron's going to be a hero tonight
-
Athletics vs. White Sox
Sox had their golden opportunity to put a run on the board and it doesn't look like Haren's going to give them any more.
-
Athletics vs. White Sox
weird - that should've been an error on the throw by Cintron, not a hit
-
Tigers in first
the praise being heaped upon their pitching is, IMO, premature.

Orlando Hernandez to the Mets
I am forever a fan of the Duke after the wizardry he pulled of in a Sox uniform.

ACLU gets prayer banned at a HS graduation ceremony.......
QUOTE(Texsox @ May 23, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Here's a liberal Democrat that also prays and feels my rights are violated when I can't. I believe I have freedom of speech also. has anyone ever stopped you from bowing your head and praying? If a kid wants to say grace before eating his lunch in a public school, no one is stopping him or her. Nor would they ever try.

This worries me
A cartoon flashed in my head when I tried to picture PK playing 3rd. Anyway, Thome is an AWESOME weapon to have sitting on the bench late in the game in NL parks where PH's are used extensively. I got no problem with it.

5/23/06: White Sox vs. A's
nice to see Rob getting rewarded with a start.

SportsNation Biggest Blunders from Neyer
Letting Harry go was sad indeed. But for those who only remember him as the voice of the flubs, then I imagine that it's no big deal. No doubt the sausage king got it right - the new comiskey. I like it, but it could have been, and should have been, so much more. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Technically speaking, Wells had about 2 solid seasons and none of the other guys in that deal ever did anything (fogg had about 1-2 solid seasons as well). isn't Fogg pitching for Colorado?

New Sox fight song
hair band. no doubt these boys are still living in their parents basement. The Sun Times should print a retraction. My ears are bleeding.
