QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) Green? Don't we want to stop the bleeding instead of causing it to continue? it was a cynical reference to his new "mop up" role. sorry

They're looking for the hanger now....can't believe he got that heater past Irod

Get Cliff up...

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) What'd Coop have to say? Really took exception with the idea that the Sox are sucking - 34 wins, only 2 games out. Said they just hit a rough patch and they just need to "go out and kick some ass!" Emphasized that "we're the world freakin' champions".
-
anybody just hear Coop's animated pregame interview? (Frank just went yard with a 3-run dinger in cleveland)

Is Carlos Lee's brother Carlos still in the Sox organization?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Looks like Juan went deep twice that night. Once against the Royals. classic

Good to see the regular line up. Granted, I'm nuts, but I think Brian's going to get it going this series. Uribe too.
-
this week offers a great chance to get things going in the right direction. Unfortunately, it also presents the possibility of being 5 or 6 games back.
-
damn. I was hoping Ian Kennedy might still be around for the Sox.
-
It's a shame because they were expecting him to be able to pitch this season. The hope was that with time off the back would heal some. Doesn't look like it has. I assume he's still trying?

I'm glad we're slumping now instead of late in the season. Which is not to say it can't happen again, but still...

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) The thing is, this team doesn't have a lot of fundamentally solid players. We have way too many players taking called 3rd strikes, and we're bunting too early and often, which is limiting our ability to score more than one run in an inning. We don't exactly have the shutdown pitching that we did last year, and one early run isn't going to be enough right now. but I think that's the point of the drills. I think these guys can alter their focus and start playing fundamentally better. Taking third strikes has been a huge problem and Ozzie's been harping more about "good at bats" than anything else. And don't overlook all the dingers hit in May by the middle of the order. I think a lot of guys grew complacent waiting for the Earl Weaver special instead of making things happen. Obviously, that only works for so long.

The freedom trail is sponsored by the US park service and well worth it. It's a walking tour. I guess I'm in the minority but Fenway was awesome in my book. But I like old ball parks. The condition of a bathroom doesn't really factor in to my assessment of a stadium. I loved old comiskey and you'd be hard pressed to find worse restrooms. Fans were incredibly passionate and knowledgable. Their obsession with the yankees borders on clinically psychotic, however. Take public transportation because parking is over $20 anywhere near the park.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Someone else said this, but it sure seems true. We've been getting out to an early lead, and then it just seems the team sits back, waiting for the other team to rally. Our hitters start to swing for the fences, and our pitchers are giving up a TON of base runners. Our defense has been bad almost all season, and Ozzie's yet to find a good balance between offense/defense. Baseball is a game of adjustments, and we're getting our asses kicked in that aspect. true, and that's why I think the offense will be sparked by adjusting the style of play to getting runners on, getting them over and getting them in. I could be wrong but it seems to me that a lot of runners are left stranded on the base paths. I like the idea that Ozzie's running drills with guys who aren't getting the job done at the plate. It could go a long way to straightening out the offense.

Sad passing. Rock is getting old, I guess. I saw the Dead in Seattle less than a year before Jerry threw ace-duece. I thought they still had it, IMO. I am enjoying Rat Dog quite a bit, some of Bob's best work ever.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 08:21 AM) It may seem that way when all you do is watch the show for the action and the killing and not as much for character development. I think its a solid season setting up the final episodes. I would normally agree with you on this point but don't you think it's getting old that they take the idea of a mob war to the brink and then pull back right at the end? Tony saved when Johnny Sack gets thrown in jail, Tony saved when Phil has a heart attack... AJ's develpment would be worthwhile if he could act. He's just so overshadowed by the great acting of everyone around him, IMO.

What's the deal with Jeff Farnsworth? He's accustomed to pitching in relief and posting good numbers (I know, it's AAA...but still). Wonder if Sean Tracey is getting a look for relief....?

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) I'm starting to wonder if it is partly Thome's fault, even indirectly for a few reasons. First, it meant the loss of Rowand who was pretty fiery, in addition to being a centerfielder who could hit and play defense properly. Second, while our offense has certainly stepped up a notch as a result, I wonder if this hasn't affected the mindset of the team. Like others have said, we're not the hungry, scrappy team we were last year and it seems like we're willing to make some mistakes in the field and pitching because the team seems to think they can score the runs to make it up. I'm calling the vatican to have Rowand nominated for sainthood. Why not? He's taken on epic proportions on this board. This team is simply playing poor baseball right now. Period. We saw them do the same thing last year at various times and they're doing it again right now. Grab an airsickness bag and hang on. Maybe they'll turn it around; maybe they won't. But it won't be for lack of effort, heart, leadership, or the presence of Aaron f***ing Rowand.

How does Chicken Little end? I never could get through that book.
