Now......
Ya ya, going for it would be going broke and giving up cotts or borchard and stuff for Beltran. I don't know who you'd acquire in center at this point...Lofton? Maybe that'd be a low risk upgrade i guess.

Now......
Passive thinking isnt going to get you anywhere. Look at Almonte right now. He is the perfect example of a future stud who crashed and burned. These guys arent s*** unless theyve proven something on the major league level. Keep your TOP prospects, and if you can get something for the 2nd level prospects, and its going to help you win, you go for it. I have to praise KW. Well it all depends what you think of Ring then. And we just disagree about what "going for it" means. He's taking a low risk shot at improving the team. Absolutely going for it would be trading one of your top guys and going for broke (ala Lowell and Benitez and other guys)..that's all i'm saying.

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
Why are you listening to the Score? Of course they're going to bash the Sox as much as possible. Listen to ESPN Radio 1000, a lot better stuff. It was some newspaper guy from NY, not just some fan. So he has credibility. Although i agree it's a black hole in NY Listen to the score from 10-2, because Boers and Bernstein are hilarious. Flip to 1000 now to get McNeil, Jurko, Harry...should be a lotta sox talk today. Besides, who the hell wants to listen to Jim Rome? That guy knows nothing about sports and is just a big egotistical asshole. Ever seen Rome is Burning? That show is terrible

Now......
And the one you give up could be the next great thing. Going for it, in my mind, is trading for a superstar..the best guys on the market. Not Alomar. He's a middle of the road guy at the end of his career. This is more of a strengthening of the team, not going for a world series or bust.

Now......
What kind of CF are you going to get for nothing? Alomar isn't a huge acquisition compared to some of the names being thrown around. Another mediocre type acquisiton for CF isn't going to put this team over the top. And yes, giving up 3 more players out of your minor leagues is a lot. And you can't say Ring et al will be nothing...we all have no idea. What we do know is Ring is good thus far and was a #1

official Sox announcement
Those Ring numbers are pretty nasty. It's a shame he had to go in the deal. Just hope it doesn't come back to haunt us, but these are the types of trades that define a GM. Maybe in the race, maybe not, and you decide to go for it or rebuild...and also being able to evaluate young talent and really know what you are giving up.

Now......
I don't want to give up the farm to try to make a run with a team that is a possible playoff contender. You give up the farm when you have a team right there and you know THIS is the year. This is not the team nor year...i think we can all see that. It's not worth the risk

The Glover Conspiracy
JM is afraid to use him in close games, and that's all we've been playing lately, so he's not being used. And the more close games we play, the less he gets used, and the confidence in him from JM goes down even more. It's hard to get out of unless you just stick him in there in a critical situation. And if JM does that and Glover gets beat, JM is going to be torched til the cows come home.

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
A guy from NY on the Score just ripped the living hell out of Alomar. Called him lazy and a dumb dumb ballplayer. Would bunt with a 3-1 count, no one on 2 out, slide into 1st base and slow himself up, backhand toss balls 35 feet that are way too slow, don't tag up on fly balls, etc. Didn't sound to enlightening. Didn't really get along with teammates either. Terminology used was he's "on a different wavelength" than them. Kenny Williams comments at 3:30 according to the Score

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
The problem is, he's not playing like a Hall of Famer anymore. If we had Cal Ripken on our team now, would we claim to have a HOF at 3rd?

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
That's a nice short term solution and maybe give some time for things to shake out. However Rios should be gone, and Glover following

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
Ya, Rios will probly be one that bites the dust here soon. That at bat sunday was enough for me

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
True, but the thing is, they NEVER use him. Ideally you wouldn't want to. But Glover will be gone for someone like Ginter soon. They need someone to eat up more innings.

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
I think right now the person who gets squeezed is Daubach not Rowand. You can't take Rowand's bat out of the lineup. Plus putting him in LF, Harris in CF, and Lee at DH improves our defense even more. Daubach has been tearing it up also... i don't see how you take that lefty power out of the lineup. Who do you have more confidence in over the long run...Brian or Aaron? I think this Rowand burst is just lightning in a bottle

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
Start the goodbye Gary Glover watch now

29,945
I would also say Manuel didn't have the best series vs Piniella either

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
Who gets squeezed out? Harris or Rowand? What about the lineup? I think i'd go Harris Alomar Thomas Maggs Daubach Lee Valentin Crede Olivo If harris struggles, go Alomar Valentin/Graff vs lefties Thomas Maggs Daubach Lee Valentin Crede Olivo Harris Possibly swap Harris and Rowand depending on who's playing well.

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
Tuesday, July 1 Report: Mets will eat remainder of contract -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services Mets second baseman Roberto Alomar has been traded to the White Sox for prospects, ESPN's Peter Gammons has learned. Alomar The trade is expected to be announced later this afternoon. Alomar's brother, Sandy Alomar Jr., has spent three-plus seasons for the White Sox. The Mets will eat the $3.9 million left on his contract this year, the New York Daily News reports. Alomar, a bust in his one-plus seasons with New York, is hitting .262 with two homers and 22 RBI this season. Alomar had been one of former Mets general manager Steve Phillips' high-profile acquisitions two winters ago, but the deal that included outfielder Matt Lawton, infielder Alex Escobar and left-hander Billy Traber being shipped to Cleveland never paid dividends for the Mets.

Espn Radio reports Alomar is traded to Sox
Now, bat alomar leadoff and put someone like Rowand or Valentin at 2, or leave Harris leading off and bat Alomar 2?
