QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) No, Run DMc was the other option. I have Mathews. He'll be great there. Giant reach in round 3. Maybe he'll have more tds than broken collarbones this year... QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 09:41 PM) RB Andre Brown of the Giants just broke his leg. Hope no one drafted him. Wow. Makes David Wilson waaaaay more valuable. Excellent. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) who should I take #5 in a yahoo league, non PPR with pretty much standard scoring? Well you'll be grabbing one of Foster, McCoy, Martin, Rice, Charles, Lynch, Spiller (not in any order). They are very similar, I wouldn't really argue on whatever order you wanted to put them in. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) What about jimmy graham with my second pick at 24? 14 team league? I wouldn't, especially non PPR. On the turn in the 3rd? Maybe. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) I got roped into doing one more league this year. 12 team league going to be a keeper but this is the first year of it, 4 points for a throwing td, non ppr. I had the 8th overall: Wilson T. Richardson S. Jackson Fitzgerald T.Y. Hilton Gronk Lacy Seabass Seahawks Like* *Especially if Gronk gets 10+ games. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) I just sat them down and said I needed "$X" or I was going to start looking, given my production at this joint. I felt all "f*ck you, pay me". They replied with "$X + $$$$ (like whoa $) + promotion". Now, I'm a happy camper. Time to knock the wife up to celebrate. Nice, on all fronts.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 05:44 PM) Yeah yeah. I'm sure you've never liked a single OSU coach in your lifetime so its not so hard to believe you feel that way. If you liked him I'm sure he wouldn't have been very successful. Didn't like him at Florida, so there's that. I think Thad Matta is a good coach and not a bad guy, so there's that. Also beyond far from the only person that thinks this about Urban, and you're well familiar. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 08:23 AM) It turns out that getting dicked around by that company a month ago worked out in my favor - just got a fatty promotion and raise. Randomly, or did you ask? Sounds like you didn't know it was coming, or maybe you wouldn't have looked to move?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 09:24 AM) Well, I might as well paste my roster from the big live draft I had over the weekend. Note - drinking beers and inputting rosters after a live draft is fun and not at the same time. I picked 10th in a 12 teamer. All TDs worth 6. 1 bonus point every 100 yards for rushing/receiving and every 100 yards past 300 for passing. QB Matthew Stafford WR Dwayne Bowe WR Pierre Garcon WR Michael Floyd RB LeSean McCoy RB Maurice Jones-Drew TE Zach Sudfeld FLEX Ryan Mathews DEF who cares, but Tampa QB Josh Freeman WR Justin Blackmon WR Vincent Brown RB Bryce Brown RB Jonathan Dwyer TE Antonio Gates TE Coby Fleener Just like you don't understand the desire to play in a 10 team league, I don't understand the desire to play in a 6 pt passing TD league... QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) Just a mini question, why are people going RB first? The only RB worthwhile is Adrian Peterson when he's healthy. In normal scoring leagues, especially ESPN ones, the QB is always the better pick since RBs these days work as tandems for the most part and they are so inconsistent year to year. AP has been the only one who if healthy, is a top 5 RB every year. The rest fluctuate wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much. Also as draft strategies, I also suggest picking QBs who are in tough divisions as they won't be resting come playoff time for you. Matt Ryan, Drew Brees > Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning. Read this http://espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story/...football-drafts QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) So the NFC North isn't tough? Interesting. Also, it's basic math. You have to start two running backs and only one quarterback in most leagues. I disagree wholeheartedly on the tandems - the NFL is getting away from that again, thank God. I'd say there's 14 or so backs who are workhorses. Are you trying to tell me any of the below aren't clear-cut #1 running backs? Adrian Peterson Doug Martin LeSean McCoy Marshawn Lynch Jamaal Charles Ray Rice CJ Spiller Arian Foster Trent Richardson Matt Forte Stevan Ridley Alfred MOrris Maurice Jones-Drew DeMarco Murray Reggie Bush Lamar Miller Darren McFadden Sure, they might lose some touches to backups, but these guys are all going to get the bulk of the carries. And you need to start two of them (and I'm starting three RBs with a FLEX). Good luck not having garbage out there if you pass on one to snag Matt Ryan. EDIT: And you're god-damned crazy if you think I want one of the bottom four listed above as a top two RB for me, so of course I'm taking them rounds 1 and two Meanwhile, QB is stacked. 2 points per game makes up the difference between a Drew Brees (last year) and a guy you can get in the 6th round. And you only need one of them. It's basic, simple math. I took RBs with my first 3 picks and still had Matt Stafford whom I reached on in my big draft. I'd much rather gamble on his upside than take Drew Brees at 10 and be completely f***ed. Wait, what? Did you take Ryan Mathews with your 3rd pick? Tell me you meant to hit "2" instead of "3"...? QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) I'm getting signed up for an auction league, don't really want to do it but whatever, should be interesting if anything else. No idea how to strategize for it. Stars and scrubs -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) Like Tressel, Bruce and Woody before him. Let the media tell you how big of a story it is. I'm sure you have a real issue with Brady Hoke not letting people wear red. The Gators are on the same arrest pace as they were when Meyer was there, in fact a bit ahead of it at the moment. While at the same time Meyer is punishing his players at OSU well beyond what is industry standard. So it is a Meyer issue or a Florida issue? The Rolling Stone article said he "may" have covered something up. Poor reporting as pointed out by several folks already. Not sure how you can be fired for one reporters opinion. The only legit quotes they have really point urban as a scumbag It's all so incredibly stupid. I get it, Urban is your coach now, but the guy's a first class dbag. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) I had a girl try to secretly puke in my bathroom sink. It didnt slow me down, I just didnt kiss her face. Nothing worse than blowing your chance at action because you're the one that threw up. I did this once in college, making out on a balcony, told her hold on a second, threw up over the side of the balcony, bunch of my friends saw it and laughed their ass off. I was done for the night, they threw me in bed since the party was at my apartment, and kept partying for a few hours.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) So yeah if there is something to that Rolling Stone article, Urban Meyer will be fired immediately. I'm sure there is something, look at the history of the Gators while Meyer was there. Meyer's a scumbag. And now silly on top of it - not allowing media/nfl scouts etc to wear blue to practices. OMG rivalry! Telling grown men what to wear - right. -
Wow, that is terrible. And yeah, puts some things in perspective like you said. We've all done some stupid/risky stuff in our lives, most haven't had any major injuries to show for it. Just shows you that things can, and do, in fact happen, and I'm sure you realize that now more than ever. For me, I've been done taking any physical "risks" for years. Well, at least the ones I can control. Playing hockey is a risk, and something could happen. But I'm not running around without a helmet on or a facemask on, etc. But jumping off things/climbing things etc, things that just aren't necessary at all, are a thing of the past. For example, honeymoon in Hawaii a couple years ago - there's quite a few places you can jump off cliffs, go to the edge by the ocean and take crazy photos, etc. I told my wife I'm not trying to win a Darwin award, taking the picture here instead of 100 feet further is fine. Same things with the guys jumping off cliffs - I'm sure it's great, but not for me. I'm not saying what your friend did is equivalent to jumping off a cliff into water, but it's something we all know carries some seemingly unnecessary risk. For me, just not worth it at this point, and it's a definite transformation. High School me thought I was invincible. Anyone else do things along these lines? I hope your friend recovers as well as he can.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) We can talk about it without you trying to flaunt your authority because your not an authority in a major league game or in that park. You know more about the rules I'll give you that. It's a unique situation and you can be civil instead of sarcastic. We're arguing for the same reason Robin was arguing. There's no way a ball thats in the park should be an inside the park HR ever unless the ball is being chased down because it bounces away or outfielders collide. And in those instances the ball is clearly visible. Common sense would tell you thats a ground rule double . To the fielder it's like the ball bouncing into the stands . He can't make a play on it when it goes into the stands just as he couldn't make a play on a ball he can't see because of his view was obstructed by park factors other than being blinded by lights. When its out of play the ump immediately calls it as such. Just because the ball was on top of a hose and moving freely until it rolled to a stop under there does not mean it was in play . It should've been ruled a fair ball and out of play First of all the major league and fed rules for lodged ball are the same. Second of all, to reiterate, it's not a ground rule, it's a rule book rule. You and the other guy keep missing the point. Essentially what you guys are coming up with is you think that based on where the ball was, it should be dead. The problem is, that point is irrelevant to what the umpire did. If I didn't see the play, from what you just posted, I would assume Tank threw his arms up, walked away, ump came out and ruled it a live ball, and as a result, a HR. As we all know, that's not what happened. What you guys don't know is the rule book, but more importantly, umpire mechanics. When the ball is out there, and Dayan is looking, the ump is doing what is called "chasing," which you can see him doing in the replay. He's starting to jog out there to watch for fan interference, and get closer in case something like a lodged ball comes into play. You never rule a ball dead from afar unless it's completely out of play or you see it touched by a fan. So, the umpire observes the play and the fielder. Essentially, he's waiting for the fielder to make a play. It is NOT the umpire's responsibility to rule the ball dead, from afar, without the player indicating that he believes that is the case (and even then, you don't rule it dead just because a player thinks so). The onus, per the case book, is on the fielder to do something, whether that's play it, or determine he can't find it/considers it lodged. Think about it - the umpire is not running out there calling a dead ball from 90 feet away and then the fielder picks up the ball since it wasn't lodged. Umpires don't kill plays unless something warrants it. In this case, umpires are taught to let this type of instance play itself out, and react to the fielders. He can always rule it a lodged ball after getting all the information, and place baserunners backwards. He can't kill the play, then all the sudden rule it a live ball and re-start or play imaginary baseball and place runners somewhere else. If the fielder throws his arms up and walks away, that prompts a closer inspection. During this time, the ball is still live. Baserunners move. You don't rule it live/dead until you are AT the location of the ball. These types of plays happen at the outfield fence as well, and umpires have to go all the way out there before making a ruling. If the fielder, at any point, goes into play the ball, the ball remains live, even if he can't get to it. What happened here is that the ump was chasing and the fielder went and dug and found the ball. There was no ruling to be made, no dead ball call to be made, the play was business as usual based on the fielder's actions. Dayan simply didn't know what to do in this situation. -

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 11:07 PM) Amateur MLB Umps even though ACTUAL MLB Umps need to be replaced by TECHNOLOGY have the final say in ANYTHING regarding Umps because they know the supposed "RULES" even in a judgement call situation. I raise my white flag. You win. Haha, this is comedic gold right here. I'm still waiting for you to spell out exactly how the umpire erred, using everything you've learned by being an umpire and going to umpire school. Let me know. -

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) How can you not comprehend that the Ump was not making an effort to come out? As soon as that ball got lodged under the padding he should have been making an effort to come out. Rules....Really? From a guy who has watched just about as much baseball as you can this season with the ticket rules mean nothing to me with the way umpiring has been this season. Yeah, you're completely lost. It's fine. Rules mean nothing to you. OK then. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) 1st of all you're not a Major league umpire. Second you don't know the ground rules that apply to every park in ML baseball . You're saying Tank throws his hand up and walks away. Let's the runner go all the way around the bases and then what? The ump says the ball was in play the entire time ? HR ? Or you think if Tank had walked away the ump would 've ruled it a ground rule double? If then he doesn't Tank's standing there looking stupid because he walked away from a live ball ? It's a no win situation for the fielder. Of course he's going to look for the ball because he want's to prevent a run from scoring not let the guy round the bases without doing a damn thing. OK, so if we're not MLB umpires we shouldn't talk about it. But hey, Johnny Sox fan knows 100x more about rules than an actual umpire. Got it. This isn't a ground rule, second of all, it is a rule book rule. If he throws his arms up and walks away, and the umpire rules it a lodged ball, yes, batter-runner goes to 2nd. It doesn't matter if every guy goes all the way around the bases (and they should, always make umpires put you back), they'll get placed back. It's on Tank to make a call. If he can't find it, or he thinks it's lodged, he needs to throw his arms up, and walk away. It's not a situation, down the line, where the umpire will just rule it dead without being right on top of it, or without waiting to see how the player reacts - does he go play it (Tank did), or does he throw his arms up and walk away (he did not). Is it always an easy call for the fielder at that point? No, but he needed to do one or the other. He basically tried to do both. But the bottom line is that he went for the ball and got it. There's no umpire ruling when that happens, it's just a normal live ball. -

Guy says Tank is supposed to wait for the Ump to come out & "inspect" the ball, but the Ump was making no inkling of coming out to "inspect" the ball. KILL THE UMPS. You're like Hawk - purposely trying to remain ignorant on things you don't understand. It's great. Umpire moving towards play, if Tank throws arms up and walks away (which he did not), umpire comes all the way out to inspect and make a ruling. Instead, Tank goes for ball, picks it up and throws it. No error was made on the umpire's part, but please, continue. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) He didnt think the ball was lodged. It was unseeable to him like it disappeared. He looked and didnt see the ball because where it went under the padding and where it ended up were two different things. Now maybe the ump could see the ball moving under there from his angle and Tank couldnt see it from his. Tank can't make a play on the ball he can't see. For an umpire you should be more observant. Instead of flaunting your authority and saying people should learn the rules. If Tank can't see the ball, hands go up, walks away, done with the play. When he goes digging, live ball, it's as simple as that. Again, everyone wants to bash umps. Everyone's an ump, everyone knows the rules. OMG a call hurt the Sox, must be the umps. I'm saying you need to learn the rules, because, well, you need to learn the rules. -

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:30 PM) If the ball gets stuck under the wall & I look right at the ump & put my arms up & the ump is staring RIGHT AT ME & has ZERO reaction of course I'm gonna start to look for the ball more frantically. The ump could see perfectly that Tank had no idea where the ball was. Rules or not, its a judgment call & he made a terrible one. Try to learn something here, instead of playing a game of "kill the ump" when you don't know the rules. The umpire doesn't make a ruling or kill the play until he gets right up to the ball and makes a call if it's playable/lodged or not. Umpires do not react at the time the player throws up his arms. If this was at the outfield fence, the ball is still live, umpire runs all the way out. Baserunners can keep moving, and then be put back if it was considered dead. Tank's course of action, if he thought it was lodged, would be to throw hands up, walk away, let umpire come out and make the call. You can throw your arms up all you want - if you go digging in there after that, it remains a live ball and will never be ruled dead, even if it's completely stuck and you can't retrieve it. He panicked because there wasn't a call, saw the baserunner moving, so went down and tried to get it. He didn't know the rule. You don't pin that on the umpire. -

He then began to panic since when he looked at the Ump he made no decision. TERRIBLE call from an Ump in PERFECT position. Except he didn't do the right thing. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) That's the silliest thing to come to such an absolute "period" conclusion on. Double digging means its a live ball ? Show me that in the rules. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Ya I ended up accepting it. I'm pretty good at fantasy football but I've always been afraid to trade draft picks cause I have no idea how to value them but with this one, I figured I have 3 pretty good keepers who can be starters so I can basically have my starting lineup(minus kicker and defense) already filled out by pick 29 when my pick comes up in the 3rd round, that's hard to pass up. I get where you are coming from. To get value, pull up rankings you'd use, or use your own sheet, cross off guys that are kept/think will be kept if you don't have everything yet, and it will give you a decent idea of what the actual 29th pick etc will look like. That's how you can truly value draft pick trades. Then you can start to imagine your team in both scenarios, and go from there. In other words, I can't answer this question well without doing the above exercise for your league.
