  1. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Seattle gets much more soothing and calming rain. Not this type of mayhem. Um... I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore?
  2. It's very dark, rainy, and threatening here in the Loop. I'm getting pretty sick of this weather, too. Did we suddenly get transported to Seattle or something?
  3. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) I didnt forget it, You're right. I probably sped right past that. Sorry.
  4. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Itd be hard to win on the DD case. Normally the law of respondeat superior states that the principal (employer) is liable for the torts of his agent (employee) while they are working for the benefit of the principal. An exception to this rule is when the tort is outside the ordinary/customary role of the employee, so as not to give the employer unlimited liability. In this case (as compared to a bouncer or some sort of job where physical contact may be required) an employee stabbing another person seems to be so far outside of the scope of his employment that it would be hard to find the DD shop liable. I mean there is a whole huge list of facts that I could go through to perhaps try and find a way to get around the general legal principle that it is outside the scope of employment, but they would have to be facts that were present. IE if the DD employee had a criminal record of violence, then perhaps argue in the alternative that DD negligently hired some one. But generally stabbing is not considered covered (most intentional torts are not good respondeat superior cases). You forgot about filing a negligent hiring and/or negligent supervision action against DD. That would have a better chance of success than a straight respondeat superior case.
  5. When I walked by the Daley Center today, I saw the scuplture wearing its "Happy 40th Birthday" hat. The rest is history.

  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) Also,
  8. Sadly, I'll be missing Elvis Night for the first time in several years. I hope y'all have a great time!
  9. I think this pairing has been terrific. I don't know if Stoney will want the full-time gig, but if he does, I'd love to see a Hawk & Stoney booth for as long as they want to do it.
  10. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) I'd love it if the Sox dominated the Central in the second half and just let the chips fall where they may. I want Detroit to absolutely DREAD the last three games of the season. I'm with Ginger. I want to see the Sox kick some arse for the rest of the year.
  11. Maybe the Sox have stopped digging. Can they climb out of the hole?
  12. What the heck happened to Pods out there in LF? He made some awesome plays defensively!
  13. Seems Johan is disappointed with the Twins' lack of activity at the trade deadline. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2956943 He would look great on the South Side in 2009, wouldn't he?
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) With his performance and the lack of a market during the trade deadline, it is a prime time to extend Dye for much less than his market value, and tons less than his value at the beginning of the season. I wouldn't mind that.
  15. Offman on the Score says no deal for Dye and probably no contract extension, either. About half an hour to go before the deadline.
  16. The Score just said that the minor leaguer is a pitcher, but still no name....
  17. It was nice to see Gooch go yard against the Cubs tonight. (Rowand, too!)
  18. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Southsider...I agree with you. What would the city's skyline be if people b****ed about Mies Van Der Rohe, Louis Sullivan, Skidmore, etc. Things like the Spire, Aqua, etc. make Chicago what it is. Except for that one building on Wacker just north of Randolph...that thing is a monstrosity!!! Do you mean the Smurfit-Stone Building? I always thought it looked pretty neat.
  19. 7 pounds and 11 ounces, eh? That's the exact same weight of our new baby (born 7-17-07)! Congrats to the Buehrles!
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) I should have just said the "Chicago Vibrator" That sounds like a finalist from the "name the Chicago WNBA franchise" contest.
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) That was so bad I had to laugh. Then I have succeeded!
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Not the first time I've made a mistake, and definitely not the last. So sorry... I don't blame you, Steff. It's just that the "alternative" spelling kept getting perpetuated in subsequent posts.... (That, and no one got my Justin Speier reference)
  23. No you can't get what you waaaaaaaant..... 'Til you know what you waaaaaaaaant...... Oh wait, wrong guy.
