QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 11:12 PM) Edwin actually graded out pretty well last year. Better than both Chris Williams and Spencer. So it wasn't referring to Edwin. And Spencer started over Louis at Guard last year, so I'm not sure we can just assume that Louis starts at Guard this year. Spencer started at RG after they moved Louis to RT.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) According to ProFootballFocus, Williams and Spencer were two of the worst Guards in football last year. DeCastro was one of the highest rated G prospects in a while. You guys might be happy with Williams and Spencer with Lance Louis as a backup, but I'm not. If Tice likes Webb, fine, keep him at LT and Carimi at RT, but to say they didn't need a Guard was false. I've seen mocks where the Bears took Glenn at 19. I've seen other mocks where the Bears took Zeitler in the 2nd. Apparently other people think Guard was a need too... Im gonna have to assume that is referring to EDWIN Williams, not Chris, and Louis would be the starter I imagine, not Spencer. The only reason Louis wasnt playing RG was because of Carimi's injury.

So let me get this straight. What youre saying is Chris Williams is a good LT but was moved to LG to fill a need and they were comfortable replacing Williams at LT with JaMarcus Webb? First things first, I hope were in agreement that LT is much more important of a position then LG. There is a reason why guards dont often go early in drafts and tackles do. So if you have a guy who is a good LT you would NEVER move him to LG and then put JaMarcus Webb there because as I said LG isnt nearly as important as covering your QB's blindside with a LT. If that were the case Williams would have been the starter at LT from opening day and theyd have used someone else at LG, probably Spencer or E. Williams. The essay you posted from the Bears board isnt really relevant here because Im not trying to debate IF Chris Williams can play LT right now. The point is the coaching staff CLEARLY doesnt think he can or he would be. Had Williams been playing LT then DeCastro would have been a solid pick, but thats not the case. My point is that the coaches like Williams at guard and he seemed to be excelling at the position before his injury and when him and Louis were both playing there was the best our interior OL has looked in years, so Im sure they plan on keeping them there barring injuries. As far as depth goes they also have Spencer and Rachal and Im not sure if they still have Edwin Williams but either was that is a ton of depth for the position. OT on the other hand was a nightmare. Omiyale was possibly the worst OL in the NFL. Webb for the most part seemed pretty inconsistent (Martz's playcalling certainly didnt help) and when we moved Louis to RT after Carimi was hurt he looked awful too. Right off the bat, not having Martz here calling 7 step drops and having Brandon Marshall here will help our OL immensely but the glaring need is at OT. Webb is a ? at best and Carimi is an injury concern and then they have a bunch of practice squad guys at OT currently. So again, thats why it wouldnt have made any sense to draft DeCastro.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) Woah there, its just speculation that doesnt even matter at this point. Williams never failed at LT, he just had the ability to play LG so they put him there, it was broke down by jason over on talkbears. I Think the bears can do a lot of shuffling on that line and can take the best OL available whenever they decide to take one, C, T, or G. and if youve been following the offseason of the bears it seems like they were targeting an OG more than they were an OT...true story If Chris Williams could play LT he would be. How did it seem they were targeting guards? Because they signed Rachal? There wasnt much for LT's in FA and Tice likes Webb for whatever reason. Everything youre saying are opinions from people on message boards. My point is, LT is infinitely more important than LG so if you have a player, lets name him Chris Williams, who is a capable LT, you wouldnt move him to LG because he had the "ability" to play it. They moved Williams to LG to salvage his career and he actually did ok there, but to think he wouldnt be playing LT if he was capable of it is pretty ridiculous. If they thought he would be better at LT than Webb hed be playing LT and theyd put someone else at guard and not the other way around, and if they didnt think he was a better LT than Webb then he isnt a good LT.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:22 PM) To move Chris Williams out to LT where he was drafted to play.. despite what everyone thinks hes been good at LT when he had the chance to play there If Chris Williams was capable of playing LT he would be playing LT period. You dont move a good LT to guard in favor of JaMarcus Webb. They dont even need DeCastro if they wanted to move Chris Williams back to LT, they could easily plug Spencer in at LG. Just because you think he can play LT doesnt mean the Bears have any intention on letting him try anymore. I havent heard ANYTHING from any Bears sources about them wanting to move Williams. But I guess you know more than Mike Tice.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:14 PM) I think insurance for our very injury prone OL, with definite future potential as a good starter, far outweighs the Bears desire to have a strong 3 DE rotation. You have also said the Bears DL outside of Peppers is fine. I listed 5 guards the Bears have, how many do you think theyre going to carry? Im not defending the pick either necessarily, I dont know enough about the kid to say it was the right move but to go after a DE (whoever it may be) isnt a bad idea. When Williams and Louis were the guards last season they looked very good. Spencer is also fine and they already brought in a FA in Rachal, it would be ridiculous to draft a guard there. Id have preferred Wright, Reiff or Jones.

What an awful pick for Cleveland

QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) Anything on the offensive line makes sense. No it doesnt. The Bears have plenty of capable guards. Sure it would be nice to upgrade but they NEEDED other positions filled before they upgrade at a position they have good depth in. If were talking OT's thats different, we certainly could use a LT. But as far as OG goes the Bears have Williams, Spencer, Louis and signed Chilo Rachal. It would make zero sense to draft a guard over a DE, WR, CB, DT, S, OT etc
-
I dont mind the player, just would have preferred to have moved down a few picks to get him. I still scratch my head at people clamoring for DeCastro, that makes no sense.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) Shea McClellin - DE - Boise S is the pick. How the ef?

Bears dont need a guard. They have glaring needs at other positions and cant afford a luxury upgrade.

Its not that hes been the favorite and always choked, he normally completely dominates everyone but is held back by weak teammates. This is the first time he was in a position where he wouldnt be limited by a weak team and he single handily lost the final for him and his partner.

I kept thinking that CT was gonna turn it up right when Camilla and Bananas caught up to him and that he would be able to beat Camilla because she looked gassed too.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 22, 2012 -> 10:33 PM) Yes it is. Would you go on Twitter and bash your employer, say you're being disrespected and essentially ask for a raise? These guys dont live in corporate America. Of course pretty much anyone who posts on here wouldnt do that but professional athletes are in a much different position than us. However, if I had over 10 other companies willing to pay me what I was asking and I felt I was being underpaid in comparison to my peers then yes I wouldnt have a problem doing it. Its not like the Bears are gonna fire Matt Forte and he is gonna be out of a job. While I dont blame Forte for being angry, I also dont fault the Bears here. They spent a lot of time trying to work out a long term deal with him and the last offer they made was pretty fair. Look around the NFL at some of the top RB's who have just gotten big contracts; Chris Johnson, AP, Deangelo Williams. Also look at the recent Super Bowl champs; Giants, Packers, Steelers, Colts, Saints, Patriots. None of those teams have high priced running backs. So while it would be nice to make a deal to keep Forte in town, if he is gonna overprice himself the Bears are better suited using him this season and then tagging him again and trying to deal him and pick up another replacement in one of the next two drafts or in next seasons FA.
-
For people who dont like what the Bears have done so far this offseason, mostly non Bears fan, if the Bears had Campbell and Bush last season theyd EASILY have made the playoffs. We also got a WR that was significantly better than anyone available in FA who already has a proven track record with our QB. We also resigned Davis, Idonije, Steltz, McCown etc for depth. Sure there are other things they need to address but you cant fix everything in FA. The Bears were in on Mario Williams but he got too expensive. They were also close to getting Mincey also, so they appear to have a good idea where their weaknesses are. There werent many affordable OL options that would have been huge upgrades so Id assume they will address OL and DL in the draft along with bolstering the WR corps a little more. The Bush signing is huge. Hes proven he can be a very good back in the league and plays a complete game. Hes also young and as someone else pointed out he doesnt have a ton of mileage on him. If Forte is mad than thats fine, the Bears have been trying to sign him long term and offered a very fair deal and he turned it down. We went from bringing in Roy Williams and MB3 to Marshall, Bush and Campbell. You can already see the difference the change in GM has made. I havent been this excited for a draft that the Bears didnt have a top 10 pick for in as long as I can remember.

Easily the top pass rusher left on the market, Abraham will return to the team where he's spent the past six years. Abraham was often on a snap count during his age-33 campaign last season, but was still one of the league's top 4-3 ends, and notched 9.5 of the Falcons' 33 sacks. His departure would have left a gaping hole along the Falcons' defensive line. Mar 16 - 2:26 PM Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/849/john-abraham

The Bills had Williams right where they wanted him, but couldn't seal the deal. Williams does not appear to be ruling out taking his talents to Buffalo, but the odds have certainly decreased. It's unknown where else Williams is planning to visit, but NFL.com's Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday the Bears have dropped out of the running. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) From what I'm reading above, it sounds like he's talking about the comic book they wrote in place of the canceled season 3. Correct. Since the series got cancelled before the completion of the story the shows writers created a season 3 in the form of comic books.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) It was phenomenal. Easily one of my favorite shows ever done. I was so pissed when it was cancelled. By any chance did you ever look into the comic books for season 3? I found a site I can get all of them for like $7. I havent been able to locate a cheaper option as of yet.
