Well, its something I guess. At least its not Ruskell -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 07:47 PM) And with that, Im done. I think that Ive been respectful to others points of view, but you know what, its just not worth my time if people are going to attack me for really no reason. If you disagree that there should be more investigations into PSU and that there should be an independent investigation that is not being paid for by the PSU trustees, then attack me, and say how stupid I am for wanting a better investigation so that we can catch more people who were responsible. Because otherwise, I just dont understand what the deal is. Paterno is dead, you cant get blood from a stone. But right now, there are likely people who played a role in this, who are sitting comfortably in their homes, not worried because no one seems to care about getting to the bottom. I guess you guys can all high five each other because this case is resolved. /shrugs Who is saying this lol? I think anyone with any involvement in this should go down and I havent seen anyone here say anything different. Nobody is trying to get blood from a stone, but its also a slap in the face to the victims that people are acting as if the pope just died. Of course they need to keep digging and get all the details they can but that STILL doesnt change the fact that JP didnt do enough to prevent this from happening, which he openly admitted.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 26, 2012 -> 12:21 AM) Huge rumor going on in San Fran, is that the 49ers #1 thing to do this off season is to trade for Peyton Manning.. Kurt Warner thinks that Manning would be a good fit for the Niners next season. http://reewatch.com/#preview/309/60 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/...ky-to-pull-off/ The Niners and Texans were the first two teams I thought of that Peyton Manning could come in and make them Super Bowl favorites going into next season. I dont think theyll have to trade for him though, Id imagine hed be released before his roster bonus is due. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) Drunkbomber, When an article titled "f*** Joe Paterno" is posted, where Sandusky is mentioned 1 time, compared to 15 times by Paterno, it appears to me that a disproportionate amount of blame is being placed on Paterno. Remember, my comments are a response to the article "f*** Joe Paterno", where Paterno's name was used 15+ times, Sandusky's 1 time and the man who actually raped the girl who wrote the article, his name was mentioned 0 times. If you disagree and think the article isnt doing that, its fine, but that was my reaction to reading the article "f*** Joe Paterno". But the article is about Paterno, it isnt about the entire case. I think youd be hard pressed to find any reasonable person in the entire world who puts more blame on Paterno then Sandusky. Not even the author is saying that.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:10 PM) Who is arguing that it excuses Joe Paterno? My concern is that when a disproportionate amount of rage/blame is placed on Paterno, people begin to forget that there may have been a systematic cover up by PSU. Paterno is dead, hes the past, it does no good to keep on Paterno, focus needs to be shifted. I guess thats my point, saying f*** Paterno isnt going to help, it wont hurt, but I guess Id rather focus on trying to get to the bottom of this mess, than keep repeating "Joe Paterno is bad." But thats just me, seems a lot of people prefer just yelling about Paterno and not really discussing what happened and why is PSU still not doing much. Paterno is dead, no one can say that the reason PSU still has yet to release a report is because of Paterno. In fact, why is no one asking about the fact that PSU did nothing for X years while a grand jury was investigating Sandusky. Its not much different than hearing people say "Paterno wasnt the biggest villain in this case" over and over when nobody is even saying that.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Thats my point Steve. We all know Sandusky is the criminal, but something else happened here. Child rape doesnt go on for 20+ years, have multiple witnesses, have a police investigation and have nothing come of it by accident. My guess is that Paterno's failure was not the worst act committed by PSU, my guess is that there may have been something illegal done by the Trustees, etc. You cant stop at Paterno, this whole "Paterno is the most powerful man in Penn" is a myth being perpetrated to cover up a crime. Paterno did not have the power to stop a police investigation, even if he wanted it done, some one else had to make the call on Paterno's behalf and that is the person we need to find. Who said it was? I dont understand how people can keep using this argument over and over and completely disregard the fact nobody is saying that. There is one villain (Sandusky) and then at least a handful of people who facilitated the crimes either by turning a blind eye or doing the absolute minimum expected of them by the law. Were not ranking what who did was worse then someone else. Whoever JP reported what he heard to, McQueary etc are all to blame for this too obviously, but that doesnt excuse what JP did or didnt do. Arguing whether or not JP was the most powerful man at PSU is just semantics. If he followed up on what he reported to see what was happening they wouldnt have turned him away and anyone claiming that is absurd. Just because a few other people could have prevented other children from being raped doesnt excuse that JP also could have prevented it, and thats the point.

QUOTE (That funky motion @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) I'm really digging the HUT on 11 and 12. The team is always different and I get to play with a ton players, I wouldn't normally play with. I used to like HUT but its such a money making racket for EA it got annoying. If you ever do get into EASHL and playing 6 on 6 I can point you in the direction of a cool league that Im in if you wanted to check it out.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) As for this, I don't think someone who shoots an animal is liable for their medical bills. I believe they are only liable up to the value of how the animal is viewed as property. This is correct. A similar circumstance happened with my black lab (not a shooting, but a serious injury that led to the dog having to be put to sleep) and we actually had to deal with our neighbors home owners insurance company. The amount awarded didnt cover the bills that accumulated before she was put to sleep but it was something and it helped. Also, let me know if they set up any sort of method for making donations because Id be willing to contribute a little if it helped.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) I feel bad for him, then I think of Jim Kelly... I know it doesnt mean anything in terms of a legacy, but making it to 4 consecutive Super Bowls is a MUCH bigger accomplishment then winning 1. That said he obviously would trade 3 of those trips for 1 ring. -
QUOTE (vandy125 @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) Stealing is stealing regardless of who you take it from... Should the guy who had a lobster at KWs should feel better because of how much KW has? Ya I was joking

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) You constantly pick at things instead of an entire message and than on top of that you misinterpret to or exaggerate what I said. I never once hinted at knowing more than anyone else and I never said Joe Paterno is completely innocent in all this, but I'm done arguing with a brick wall. Ok kettle

What are your NFL predictions for this weekend?
DrunkBomber replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Out of curiosity would everyone have been good with Cruz and Wilfork as MVPs? Thats who is seemed like to me. I also dont think theres any way that someone would pick Wilfork. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 12:39 AM) I never once said he is 100% innocent in the scandal, just stating that he isn't as horrible a human being as many seem to think and the fact that we don't know all the details so who could say what was really related to him. We do know that there was a firsthand witness who decided not to report the case to the police and the police knew something was wrong with Sandusky and failed to act in the past. There is a long list of people who are more at fault than Paterno and people act like he was some sort of demigod and had the state at his every command. You dont know more then anyone else yet you keep acting as if you do. How do you know what kind of a human being he is? You dont, youre only going off his public image. Ive said in just about EVERY SINGLE POST that I know there are people who are much more at fault the JP, but you just keep ignoring that because your argument is so weak that you have nothing else to say. This thread isnt about McQuery or Sandusky, obviously what they did is worse and in Sanduskys case much worse BUT THIS THREAD ISNT TALKING ABOUT THEM. Just because other peoples actions were worse doesnt make what JP did any better. One thing has nothing to do with the other right now. The fact that you said you think if Joe Paterno walked into a police station at Penn State that they would turn him away and not listen to what he had to say is honestly one of the most ridiculous things Ive heard in a very long time. I get that you want to blindly defend this guy, not sure why but whatever, but if you dont know any more about him then the next guy then maybe think twice before you try to discredit someone elses comments and implement your own.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) I think they should get a #1 WR before they go after a #2.... And I'm surprised to see how little criticism Alex Smith has gotten for tonight's game. He was pretty awful. Theyre nowhere near as far off with receiving weapons as a lot of teams in the NFL. -

QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:22 PM) Well, it was a great game but have to give credit to the Giants, they deserved to win. The future is bright, just need to get Alex some receivers and we will be back. Still upset with Kyle but starting to feel bad for the guy... The offense had 4 chances after the first screw up. Crabtree, Davis and Gore is a good start in terms of weapons so I dont think the Niners are far off at all. Give them a suitable number 2 wr and they will be in good shape for a few years. It also helps they play in that awful division. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) Everytime I heard him talk he sounded like an idiot in recent history, so who knows how all there he was and who knows exactly what Mcqueary told him. This isnt something that happened yesterday. Hes known about it for years and was still the head coach of huge college football program so give the "Hes old and confused" excuse a rest. Its amazing, youre being so critical of what other people are saying because we dont have all the facts, but neither do you and youre using ridiculous reasons to try to validate what youre saying. Do you have any proof that he didnt know exactly what was going on and was trying to cover it up? No, of course not. But do you have any proof that he was so senile he couldnt comprehend what he had been told? Nope, you certainly do not. So if youre going to try and discredit anything someone else says because we dont know all the details, then take your own advice. Also, for the 100th time, nobody is saying what JP did was WORSE then what McQuery or Sandusky did, but that doesnt make it ok or not bad in its own right.

Would you rather be Billy Cundiff or Kyle Williams right now? -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) Now might be the right time to mention that head football coaches are not given the power to arrest people or charge them with crimes. Thanks for the brilliant insight. Here we were debating whether or not Joe Paterno should have arrested Sandusky and charged him with a crime and not one of us realized this until you contributed to the thread.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) Unless Mcquery(sp?) was willing to talk to police there was nothing to be done, we don't know if he was or not. There is a lot about the situation we won't ever know. WOW
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) Having 2nd hand information unless you are relaying the information from a child is near the same as having no information in something like this. Are you saying that if Joe Paterno went to the police at Penn State University and had information about a child being raped on campus that the police would turn him away and wouldnt investigate because he was "relaying" the information from someone else?
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) Well the people above JP are obligated to do an investigation of their own on the matter I'd imagine which would have probably got things out in the open once everything was heard. As for kids being in rough situations, I can understand that but everyone in this country has access to the justice system barring being held captive in a house with no phone. I'm not blaming the victims at all, just saying Paterno wasn't in a real good position here and you even said yourself the authorities knew about the situation and the people above Sandusky in the university knew about it....Not clearing him from all blame just saying he doesn't deserve all the hate people have towards him either. I never said the authorities knew. Again nobody is saying JP did anything worse then MM or Sandusky or even whoever JP told at PSU, but were not talking about them. If we were Id be saying the exact same things about them. Its just ridiculous to imply JP didnt have the authority to get the police involved because he wasnt an eye witness and I still cant believe you would even mention that the kids should have or could have went to the police. Their bad I guess...
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) JoePa probably had more pull in Happy Valley than the Police. If Joe Pa wanted it really taken care of, it would have been. He's already said he f***ed up, but would he have ever thought he f***ed up if all this hadn't come out and his job was never on the line? Has he thought he screwed up at all from the time of the incident until this story came out? I'm so sick of hearing people say they are sorry for screwing up when what they really are sorry for is being caught. Ya I know, I was just mocking that abortion of a comment. Police arent going to turn anyone away who has information about child rape, let alone Joe Paterno.
-
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) Not really since Paterno had nothing, if he reported it they'd just ask if he witnessed the crime and if he said no he heard about it from a friend well that does no good. I'm also sure one of these kids had to tell their parents at some point who reported it to the cops so they knew something was going on. Going back to this. Since protocall was to tell your superior according to Penn State, what good would it have done if whoever JP told went to the police because you know, theyd just ask whoever it was if they witnessed it and hed say no he heard it from an employee who heard it from another employee and well that does no good.
