QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) Alex Smith will be signing a 3 yr deal with the 49ers. Do you know the financials of the deal? I was curious what kind of contract hed get.

Tebow to the Jags has been a discussion since he came into the NFL. It makes a ton of sense for Jacksonville because theyd probably generate a ton of local interest from Tebows college fans. Its also one of the few teams that has worse WR's then the Broncos but they also have one of the best RB's in the league. The Jags would probably be pretty bad for a while if this happened.

Anybody ever watch the show Jericho that was on a few years ago? I saw both seasons on Netflix and gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised, I really enjoyed it. I guess it got cancelled before the story finished so the writers made season 3 with comic books. Its about a small fictional town in Kansas that survives after the US is under attack and 23 cities get nuked, for anyone interested.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread

I went to the game in Milwaukee tonight. Id say it was about 70%+ Bulls fans there. The pic is of Clay Guida (black shirt) having to have a girl taken away by security. It was pretty entertaining. The Bucks got booed when they were being announced and there were MVP chants anytime Rose shot free throws, it was pretty ridiculous for an away game. Sorry the pic is really big but Ive been drinking and dont feel like re-sizing it. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) Every year some team goes crazy in free agency and everyone picks them to win it all. Eagles last year. This year it will be....... Safe bet is the Redskins but I dont think we should expect any team to do what the Eagles did last season. The Buccs have a lot of cap too I believe so they will probably be buyers but I cant see them getting more then 1 top tier FA.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) I'm pretty much the opposite. In my ideal world, the Bears sign a top flight FA WR as priority #1, then find a guy who isn't a top flight tackle but who can actually be counted on to play without being the worst tackle in the league in FA to give them 3 guys who can fill tackle spots (Webb, Carimi, FA), then fill a few of the other depth needs (CB, maybe OLB, maybe S, definitely TE, maybe RB) in FA. Then target DE and an additional WR with the first couple picks, in addition to filling whatever needs aren't met. In my view, WR seems to take as long as any position other than QB to actually develop in the NFL in most cases. Thus, if you draft a WR, even in the top round, you are drafting that WR looking for him to be a legit thread 2-3 years down the road. The Bears are in a position where they ought to be competing now, with the veterans they have on defense and a legit QB, and that means to me they need to find their top WR in free agency. This is basically exactly what I think. Sign the best available WR they can get, upgrade at OT in any way possible and then try to fill in some depth on defense with some other minor FA signings (unless they go after a big name defensive player which would change things) and then they can address whatever they lacked in FA in the draft.
-
Not buying that about the Patriots. Its not New Englands MO to have stuff like that leak. It would also be a terrible allocation of their money. Their offense was fine, they have a very good WR for their system in Welker (who I believe they still have to sign) and two very good young tight ends. They also have a brutal defense that needs upgrades at multiple positions so I just dont see how this could be true, unless they were planning on letting Welker walk, which I severely doubt.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) If one wants to spend 2-3 days covering the touristy things on the Manhattan list, is it plausible to stay outside the city, perhaps on the Jersey side, and then commute in? I was only there for for like 4 days and we stayed in Long Island and took the train everyday and it wasnt a problem at all.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) I think he just meant that the other WR won't cost you a first round pick. Yes.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 10:26 PM) Again, this is silly. Wallace IS one of the top flight WR. I'd much rather have him than Bowe, Jackson, Manningham, Colston, Wayne, etc. What? Where did I say Wallace isnt a top flight WR? I said I preferred an UFA WR, not because I think theyre all better, even though a few of them certainly are, but because it wouldnt cost us a 1st round pick. I then said if we were going to try to use our first round pick to trade for a WR Id rather offer it for Marshall then Wallace, and thats because I would definitely prefer a 6'4" 230 frame to a 6'0 200 frame and because Marshall already has a proven successful track record with Cutler. I do think Wallace is a good WR but he also isnt the type of WR they are really hurting for currently. Hes more of a stretch the field speed WR and hasnt had more then 71 catches in a season. The Bears have been desperate for a bigger body, possession, move the chains type WR for years and that should be a bigger priority. Now if we cant land any of those guys then Wallace is certainly an upgrade and I wouldnt complain if we got him, but to say that this type of logic is "silly" is beyond ridiculous and extremely dumb.
-
If they couldnt land one of the top flight WR's via FA then I wouldnt be opposed to Wallace. Id rather offer the first for Marshall though.
-
Ya that would be a better idea. Just anything to eliminate the fake outsiders but still forcing them to interact with other groups of people. Keeping them separated for a period is good too because it will force them to create alliances with their group before they interact with the other people. They could also possibly drop in a random person or two and see what side they go to. Id be curious to see if any of them would switch groups, Id have to imagine some would.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 01:32 AM) Yeah, Joey deciding to stay back at the end of S1 really confused me. Incredibly dramatic for no reason. That scene is a major reason why I wish they did some sort of resolution or reunion show where all the colonists talk about experiences and stuff, and then maybe that scene would be answered. Maybe part of it is that I just don't WANT to believe that it could be scripted, because if it is, I know I won't watch the show anymore, but I truly never believed for a second any of them were just acting and were told what to say. Ya thats a good point. Im probably doing the opposite and want to really believe its fake now so Im looking around on the internet trying to find any info about the cast being actors I can find. Its definitely an interesting idea for a show though. I think instead of the outsiders that are actors they should just start with more colonists and just let them form their own groups and see what they do. Then they can introduce the resources and see how the different groups approach going after them. That would also eliminate the simulated violence which I think really needs to go. Also, if everyone there were colonists, say 30 of them, they can decide if they create one giants group, which is unlikely, or if there really is a group that become outsiders that are similar to the marauders it would be a lot more interesting.
-
Ya the stuff they explain during the show you dont need to keep explaining. I know the marauders are actors and that the stuff was staged. My point was that I think that at least some of the colonists are actors and are being told what to do. Season 2 is a lot more believable to me but even like you mentioned about season 1, when the guy says hes going back at then end, wtf is that? Everywhere Ive looked people seem to be pretty split in thinking the colonists are actors or not, I just dont see how someone can watch season 1 and think that it is a reality show at all.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 11:49 PM) What do you mean? I do believe that the producers plant certain tools and items that they could use to make things, and obviously the marauders are actors and told what to do, but I think the rest of it is completely real. The only part I really question is that they must be told they can't "escape" until a certain time. Like if they made it out of the town in 2 weeks, the show would not work, so they must tell them their end period when they can try to get out of the town. Also, the scene at the end of S1 where Joey decides to stay back in the town was really odd. Doesn't he realize he is on a TV show that is about to end? Also, why didn't they leave the people with cell phones, but just de-activated their services? A smart phone could still be useful for the calculators and apps and hell, even the music people have on their phones as entertainment. If the world were to end, I can't imagine people not taking their cellphones with them. I think most, if not all of the colonists are actors. At minimum a few of them were planted there to shake things up. Everything is just way too convenient. I know they planted stuff there but its just ridiculous how these people have an answer for everything. I did some searching on the internet to see if other people thought it was fake and found a pretty good conversation about it. http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/...1/m/62119508201 Now it might not be completely scripted, but the producers are definitely saying things like "this week you guys are going to need to go find solar panels and get them to work." Also, things like how the guys wife just randomly showed up there. If it was a legit reality show and not actors it would have been much more of a wtf moment between them. The outside human interaction kind of ruins it too. People showing up with guns? You know theyre not going to hurt you. You can just tell everything is predetermined and staged. From the guy going missing in the hospital to how they escape in the end. The marauders caught in a net, and then the flame thrower not coming out until theyre inside. Its a tough format to follow for a reality show. It needs to be more like survivor for the show to be what its claiming it is. Like I said before, its entertaining but Im just about positive the colonists are actors and most of it is scripted.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 01:27 AM) Anyone watch The Colony? I randomly chose it tonight, and I am obsessed. It's so damn interesting, and I love learning all these different tricks and tips on how to survive. It's very compelling. I see there are 2 seasons on Netflix, but I wonder if they will or have already done a second set of 10 "survivors" who do this experiment. EDIT: Just wiki'd it. I guess S2 is a whole new set of people in a new environment and situation. Sweet! I started watching it on netflix recently also. I really cant lead myself to believe this isnt 100% scripted. So far its entertaining but everything is just so convenient, I dont see how its not fake.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) Man, there are some insane arguments in this thread. There is more to athleticism then just jumping but Jordan has the highest vertical officially recorded for a NBA player at 48 inches, 4 f***in feet people, id say he'd be athletically superior to todays NBA as well. Oh and Drexler's vetical..44 in, Wade's...36. Point J4L. Scottie Pippen also recorded a 48" vert -

Im about as far from a Jordan fanboy as youll find in the Bulls fan base but I dont see how someone in their right mind could think Jordan wouldnt be great in todays NBA. Sure there are better athletes now then there were in the early 90's but that doesnt take away from Jordans athleticism. Jordan had a virtually unguardable fade away, and that was when defenders could get away with a lot more. He would be able to create his own shots at will with the new rules and would be on the free throw line all night. -
What makes sense for both of them is that they both get a fresh start. When Irsay stops trying to use the media to blame the break up on Manning this will be a lot easier

I was using the bell on the door for a while but my dog started bluffing when she figured out when she rings the bell she gets to go outside.

If you read the next few posts after it Im not the only one who "misinterpreted" the intent of the statement until you backpeddled off of it. Youve been cherry picking random things people have said in this entire thread and using them on anyone who opposes your opinion. A few minutes ago you used something that balta said about how much power joepa had in an attempt to disprove something I said but then you get all worked up when I use a direct quote of something you said that proclaimed you were the only person who had this brilliant insight the whole time when in reality your statement was the same level of awful you were claiming steves was. But apparently when you say dumb comments its the readers fault.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) Do people even read my posts? I swear I already answered that 2 days ago. Thats not the point. You questioned my "I told you so" statement so I wanted to point out where it was coming from because thats exactly what you were attempting to do.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) No Steve, lets set the record straight. While you were busy believing that Paterno was the most powerful man in Pennsylvania and that it was all Paterno, I was the only one saying that there was no way it was just Paterno, and that Paterno was being used as a scapegoat to cover up for more powerful people. Lets start at the beginning, in early November, I was already saying that it was Penn State, not Paterno. The bold is what Im referring to. You were the only one who said it went beyond Paterno? Are you kidding me? You are actually claiming that you are the only person in this entire thread who wasnt claiming that Paterno was the only one to blame here?
