Id like to see us keep Javy and use him as the fifth starter and possibly make a trade for a guy who has a high risk reward. That way if he falters we can still go with Count when he comes back or Richard if needed and hope we pick the right guy and we would have at least 4 starters in good standing line up with Javy/Count/Richard used as the fifth.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) Bush is charismatic. And I don't even know what RSO stands for. I'm assuming it's something derogatory and snarky, so I guess I prefer it that way. I wonder if we could ever actually have a political discussion here without mocking undertones (from both sides now). Wait, no I don't. It stands for registered sex offender

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) Palin: Country Folk are more patriotic than City Dwellers Gov, just shut up. Dont talk. Dont say that country people are more "pro-america" than the city dwellers. I know right, being Patriotic is paying more taxes, everyone knows that.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) Yes, he fumbled the answer pretty bad. It's not the first time he answered that question but of all his answers I'd guess the quality of that one easily ranks last. Because "punished for being successful" is really an oversimplification of what progressive taxation is supposed to do, the person pushing a tax increase on the rich is supposed to explain this but his reply was a fat slice of red meat for the righty blogosphere. Ok, were on the same page then.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:56 AM) If you categorized the views of all the mods who post in here and lined them up they're actually pretty balanced. That isn't even a consideration though, the only thing that matters is what's posted, not who posted it. Regarding AHB, most of the stuff he posts is kept to the Dem thread and if he gets carried away and starts posting partisan stuff elsewhere, he stops if someone asks him to. I can't ever recall him getting into personal attacks/insults against another poster. If you feel like the mods are being unfair, picking on you/another poster, or otherwise not following the rules we're supposed to be enforcing, then let us know. Believe it or not we do take action (if there's something to it). Basically I was more commenting on what you said about posting just to provoke others.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) A lot of this is being lost in translation. What's really being asked by Obama supporters underneath all the parading and gotcha-ism is, if we are to take the "Joe the Plumber" metaphor at face value meaning we're talking about blue-collar middle class workers, how many of them actually make $250k (including the actual guy that started the metaphor) and need to be worried about Obama raising taxes on them? Apparently that applies to very few people/businesses - I don't know stats though and haven't bothered to look because they're twisted so often. Assuming we are also taking Obama's tax plan at face value, that is. Joe the Plumber is supposed to be a metaphor for blue-collar small businesses and it's the validity or relevance of the metaphor that's being questioned. He said he didnt make 250 but would probably if he bought the company he works for, but again that is irrelevant. Forget about Joe the plumber, why should businesses or individuals be punished for being successful? The reason why Joe the plumber became such a big deal IMO wasnt because of his question, Obama gets that a lot, its because of how bad he fumbled the answer. He said exactly what the GOP have wanted him to say since day 1. He basically blurted out how similar the plan is to socialism but stamped it with being patriotic. I dont understand how someone can say being patriotic means if you make more money than a predetermined amount by the government than it is your patriotic duty to pay more in taxes to fund 1 trillion dollars in new spending and let the government allocate where it should go. Now, I believe Patriotism first being used in regards to the US was around the time of the Revolutionary War, you know, the war we fought because our governing body was taxing us too much...

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) Spank me references are not only acceptable, they are encouraged. In all seriousness though, we have to keep this place at least somewhat civil, because even though people in here argue all the time the discussion is usually constructive and high-minded. When it's not, the quality of the discussion deteriorates quickly (the Jeremiah Wright thread for example). One of the ways to keep that from happening is avoiding the deliberately provocative posts, or just ignoring ones you don't like, which we all agreed to in the sticky thread in this forum. This is why I stepped in, before there was any potential of the thread turning ugly. All of us have to do our part, mods included. If this is legit why has AHB not been banned? Thats all he posts and you know it. Just because their are more dems on here and more of the mods are dems doesnt mean that they should be allowed to get away with anything. Which Ive seen first hand how that works on this site. If you want to clean it up and keep it civil start with the people who go out of their way to annoy not the people reacting to it.

Lol at the dems on here attacking some guy from Ohio instead of addressing the real issue of punishing businesses and individuals for being successful. Take Joe the plumber for what he was, a metaphor, instead of hammering away at him like he matters or has anything to do with the actual election. I love the hypocrisy of you guys. So far Bristol Palin and Joe the plumber are huge points of interest but when it comes to ACORN, Rezco, Wright, Ayers theyre non issues. You whine about voter fraud but when it appears ACORN is committing voter fraud at record quantities its OK because it helps you this time. Joe the plumber?? Seriously?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) Can someone go back and watch the CNN coverage and get me a McCain blink count? WOW! I watched for2 minutes and I lost track. I guess thats whats important.
-
QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) He talked about Joe the plummer more than anything else. Thats important. Barack basically explained his ideals of socialism when that happened, it surprises me that nobody sees the significance of Obamas answer.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Well I thought Obama won. McCain was more aggressive but the bottom line was that Obama was more Presidential. Thats what Obama needed to prove in the debates, not that he was smart, not that he knew about policy, but that he could be on the stage and be a President. And this debate showed that even when McCain threw the proverbial kitchen sink at Obama, that Obama did not back down, that Obama did not sink to attacking back bringing up things like Keating 5, or acting with any sort of contempt like McCain, Obama did not almost cry when he was talking about people calling him a terrorist (as opposed to McCain who seriously looked like he might break down talking about the Wallace comparison). Obama did what he needed to do in this debate, and thats why I believe the numbers will most likely say he won. I thought Obama was purposefully timid and just didnt want to do or say anything that might hang himself. From the way he acted you could tell that he feels its his election to lose and barring him doing something ridiculously stupid he thinks he will win.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) Fox doesn't do a specific poll, they have Frank Luntz do a focus group of undecideds. They don't have an article, but I'm reading from folks who have TV's that this was the summary: Do you actually believe what you posted?

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) Drunkbomber is the leader and commander of the McCain brigade. apparently tonight

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) hey now, i thought he won as well. But, it doesn't matter what we think. Heads, I give you credit then.

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Wow, poll on CBS as to who was more likable after the debate. 77% to Obama. Wow, I wonder what Fox had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone here knows McCain won this. If not go hang with AHB. NSS, at least you admitted the obvious.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Really? I thought McCain came off as bitter and angry, and feel that most people are going to feel more connected with Obama. /shrugs I really doubt that this debate changes anyones mind, but once again my opinion. McCain called Obama out on a lot of bs, which needed to be done. IE, lowering taxes on 95% and increase spending by 1 trillion
-
Anyone who thinks Obama has won this is out of their minds. McCain was desperate going in, and landed a haymaker.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) should Obama mention McCain's transition head lobbied for Saddam? Seems like more of a direct link to out right terror then working on a board 30 years post. If he wants to theres nothing stopping him. I doubt it would work very well though. I cant see many people worried about the link between John McCain and terrorism. Out of curiosity, do you think Obama isnt doing the same kinds of things or do you think big bad McCain is picking on Obama?

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) It may be close, but the hate for oil companies is no where near as venemous as the hate for calling someone a terrorist-sympathizer Theyre not calling him a terrorist sympathizer. Theyre pointing out his relationship with someone and letting people draw their own conclusions based on the persons background.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Would it be hard for McCain to exempt oil from the tax cuts? Absolutely not. But he wont. Its a free market. Why shouldnt oil companies get the same tax cuts as any other business? Like it or not, theyre legitimate businesses.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) Here's my question in reply...does saying that "Barack Obama has a different view of America than most of us" or "Barack Obama used to pal around with domestic terrorists" count as an inciting remark? It's sort of that really coded rhetoric that if you put it in the right audience, they hear certain things, like Barack is a Muslim Terrorist because he hangs around with terrorists, etc. No, its stating facts. How people interpret them are their own problem. Everyone has the right to draw their own conclusions when facts are presented to them. If someone interprets the facts wrong or to a certain extreme its no ones fault but their own, but that shouldnt mean the info shouldnt get out there. Id compare it to Obamas ad that has been on TV a lot lately, where they talk about all the tax cuts for oil companies. They know damn well that the actual tax proposals are for all businesses but they spotlight oil companies to mislead the public. Now, is it true that oil companies would benefit from the plan? yes, but so would a small business owner struggling to stay above water, but you dont hear about that. Both sides throw stuff like that out to let the publics imagination run wild with it.

Id vote for McCain

QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) Last year when a hangover lasted 2 days. Then this year when I realized I could barely run without a lingering pain. I'm only 25. man, do I know what youre talking about, I used to be able to drink heavy for a week straight with no repercussions. Now, if I get drunk I have a hang over for two days and the worst anxiety. Im 26, Id say Ive had that since I was about 24.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) i like mccain, but if he is elected i hope the secret service force is like quadrupled to protect the guy...heaven forbid something should happen to him When people talk about Palin being close to the White House it isnt because of assassination concerns, its because of his age. McCain isnt the candidate the Secret Service is worried about protecting IMO.
