I love AD, for my money it's the best sitcom on TV. That being said, I feel like it's the type of show that could be a big success on HBO, here's hoping someone else picks it up.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) i tend to agree. i've attended a ton of illinois sporting events and i can't say the chief's dance ever really enhanced my experience. if it has to go, i'm cool with that. I love the Chief dance... even tend to attempt it when I'm drunk (not something anyone wants to see), but the handwriting has been on the wall for awhile now. It's not a question of IF the Chief will go, but when. That being said, everyone knows that there will be a lot of pissed off alumni when this finally occurs. I believe that the university was actually done a service by the NCAA ruling because if the university plays this correctly, they can push the blame for the eventual retirement of the Chief to the NCAA and hopefully minimize the backlash in terms of alumni donations.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) it's a pretty thin market. ben wallace stands out as an intriguing possibility, though. Bulls need clearly need size, but they need a big man with offensive skills to complement Tyson... Ben Wallace does not fill that need.

College hoops Playboy style…
illinilaw08 replied to mooser745's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I actually do not like the age limit in the NBA. While a lot of high school players make the jump to the NBA before they are ready, a lot of players have no business playing college basketball. LeBron, Amare Stoudamire, Dwight Howard, even a guy like Al Jefferson with the Celtics last year would not have benefitted by playing in college. In fact, had any one of those guys gone to college or the NBADL and gotten hurt it could have killed their future earning power. But I guess my main problem with it is that anyone over 18 can fight a war in Iraq, but they can't play in the NBA. -
QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) yeah sorry, didn't read the article before responding. so the only thing being banned is the halftime show correct? That and any logo depicting the Chief and it only affects postseason play. The only other thing affected is that as long as the Chief is still around, the university cannot host postseason athletic events which could really hurt the small revenue sports.
-
QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) all that means is that they won't say "illini" on the broadcast.....that's about it. In the ruling today, the NCAA actually said that both the terms "Illini" and "Fighting Illini" are no longer offensive.
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) This doesn't mean "no more Chief Illiniwek" The final decision on the Chief is still left to the school's discretion, but I would imagine this is one of the final nails in the Chief's coffin. Not allowing the smaller sports to host postseason events could really hurt recruiting for some of the smaller revenue sports (gymnastics, wrestling, tennis, etc) that have been very successful of late in Champaign.

Monday Nov 7th: Colts @ Patriots
illinilaw08 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) I got the Colts in this one, if they can't do it with how the Patriots are playing (and are injured) right now, Manning might never do it. I'm thinking something along the lines of INDY 31 - NE 24 with IND jumping out early and NE coming back in the 4th to make things nervous. About the Brady debate, if Brady is a system QB and NE has the perfect system for Brady and that system has won 3 SBs, umm... there's not that much left to argue about. Joe Montana was a system (West Coast offense) QB. Terry Bradshaw was a system QB (use the running game until the defense allows you to go for a bomb over the top). I'm pretty sure Montana, Bradshaw, Brady are not brilliant unfathomable athletes like Vick or brilliant strategy geniuses like Manning. All three are great competitors, great generals on the field and know exactly what they need to do for their teams to win and all three (along quite probably with Vick and P.Manning) are HoFers. agree with everything you said EXCEPT for Vick being HOF bound. It's very early to make a judgment on the guy, but he is very far from being a HOFer right now. That being said, I'm going with the Pats tonight only because the Colts have to prove they can beat the Pats anywhere... but especially in Foxboro. Hoping for a hell of a football game tonight. -
UPDATED: TO Suspended for the Rest of Season
illinilaw08 replied to Rex Hudler's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Let me preface this by saying I am not a TO fan (though this suspension could cripple my fantasy team). I have problems with people who say that TO cares only about himself and that he is a detriment to the team. I remember a guy making an incredible return to the field for the Super Bowl last year and playing an amazing game. Yes he needs to shut his mouth, yes THIS season he has become a distraction to his team, and yes he most definitely needs to grow up a lot. It's just unfortunate that his actions since that Super Bowl performance have been so negative. Just my .02. -
QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) the UC is not a hopping place when the Hawks are playing. At least not with the product currently on the ice. If the Hawks start winning, the fans... and the roar... wil return to Blackhawk hockey.

Always glad to see a favorable article about the Big Hurt.

Politte's option exercised, Everett's Declined
illinilaw08 replied to Goober's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) Thanks, like I said, I didn't know his injury status. -- If Frank is supposed to be back and healthy to start the season, then I go after Durazo as an insurance policy. Frank, as much as I love the guy, probably will never get 500 ABs in a season again. If Frank can get you the first couple of months before he breaks down, you can have another injured defensive seive waiting in the wings. Durazo is an intriguing option as long as PK comes back. Let's face it, at this point Durazo is nothing better than a DH, but if he is healthy, he could put up some big numbers in the Cell and be the LH bat the Sox have been looking for. Durazo and Frank sharing time at the DH spot seems like a good fit to me (as long as it makes sense financially). -
Manny wants a trade again....to the ChiSOx
illinilaw08 replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would love Manny too, but I think the only possibility of him coming here is if Paulie signs elsewhere. I'm also not sure of the liklihood of the BoSox eating that much of his contract to bump it down to 10 mil a year. -
Over $200. Ordered the hat, fleece and black hoody last night and got my subscription to SI today and it is all worth every single penny.
-
Seriously, that was the most incredible night ever. Mad props to Krush for planning that out. Couldnt have celebrated a title with better Sox fans.
-
Awesome post, you hit the nail on the head with every single one of those points.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) That's awesome. Let us know when you finish it. Agreed. Also, thanks for the code SnB turned my $150 order into close to $130 (fleece, hoodie and hat). With a SI order still to come, this is going to be a very expensive world series, but I love every minute of it. Someone pinch me, the WHITE SOX WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) I saw them already, shoulda tore krush's apartment apart. Oh we did, he will never get the stench of champagne out of there.

How many of my generation became Sox fans because of Frank? He is now and will forever be my favorite Sox. I teared up seeing him celebrate after the game (though that could have been champagne in the eyes).
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) You guys kill snb in the process or something? Sounds like a good time. Yeah, somewhere along the lines SnB was lost. Though I see he has posted since then so is still alive. And I think he has pictures of our recreation of the locker room celebration to be posted here later. Complete with 12 bottles of champagne.

So me and Krush were out enjoying ourselves at a local Champaign bar and some Cub fan decided to call the 2 of us bandwagon jumpers. He picked the wrong 2 guys to say that to. After going off on him about all the Sox knowledge we possessed, we ripped into him good. When we questioned him about his Cub fan-ness by asking him who the Cubs bullpen guys were, he answered "Kyle Fanrsworth and Joe somebody." So we had a good laugh about that. Also, Krush sprained his ankle in the celebraton and when we stormed the alma mater, I swear there was a rally crede chant. It quickly turned into "crede crede" but it was definitely a rally crede chant for awhile. Me, Krush and AddisonSt were all there for that one. To sum the night up, this is the best night of my life and my bank account will begin to be emptied on champ merchandise tomorrow. Also, I reek of champagne from our victory celebration. GO GO WHITE SOX

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) the one thing that everyone is overlooking is the fact that JG will really only be facing 7 men in the lineup instead of the gruelling 9 he is accustomed to. this is a big advantage for him and all our pitchers in Houston. I agree that this is a very overlooked factor when comparing pitchers between leagues. It seems as though just by transfering leagues an ERA will jump by around half a point. Jon Garland will be helped by facing the Astros in Houston just because he gets to face the pitcher. I'm looking at this being a low scoring game where hopefully the Sox can stratch a couple across in the early innings and fight out a victory.
-
In the second inning, Arow had that play on the AJ flyball where he went and tagged up, but the ball went off the wall and runners end up on 1st and 2nd instead of 2nd and 3rd. I understand the rationale for why it was a mistake, but if Burke catches that ball, Rowand looks brilliant for getting himself into scoring position by tagging up. I'm just curious as to what the consensus on this board is from a baseball perspective. Anyways, since I need my baseball fix for the day, I was hoping to inspire some debate on the subject. My apologies if this was discussed in the game thread last night and I am rehashing old news.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) It's a major disadvantage, especially when you're playing a team like Houston that is just insanely good in their own building. They'd have taken all three from the Cardinals if not for that miraculous Pujols HR. I considered St. Louis to be the one true dominant team in all of baseball, and they got raped. A good question to lead off that previous thread would be to ask how often they work on their bunting over the course of a season. The preparation for Interleague play in June/July might just be a blessing in disguise, as pitchers take more bunting practice & are therefore better suited to come through in a sticky situation with a man on first and no outs in the World Series, or what have you. Ozzie knows what the deal is, though. I'd assume that these guys have been practicing on a regular basis in-between starts throughout the course of the year. St. Louis was not the team they were during the regular season in that series. Just a very beaten up team at that point in the season and no longer had the bats to handle the Astros staff. Should be one hell of a world series though... Saturday cant get here fast enough.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) Yeah I don't see a reason for adding him either. I think we use what got us there for the most part. Don't make too many changes. But I would like to see Gload be on the team used as a pinch hitter. Yeah, as much as I love BMAC (and i do) there is no new argument for him being on the roster. At this point I do think Gload would be a solid addition, the bullpen is rested, no need for Viz add Gload so I dont see Blum pinch hitting in a tight spot in a national league park (not to mention his LH bat).
