QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I'd rather face Houston-- Runs Allowed: Houston 609, St. Louis 639 Runs Scored: Houston 693, St. Louis 805 Houston just isn't the offensive team that St. Louis is, and the Cardinals' pitching isn't that much worse. Even more importantly: Carpenter vs. CHW - 7-1, 1.97 ERA (and that's when he was just OK with Toronto) Mulder vs. CHW - 5-1, 2.47 ERA Clemens vs. CHW - 17-8, 3.35 ERA (higher than his career ERA), 3.94 ERA at the Cell Pettite vs. CHW - 10-7, 4.30 ERA (higher than his career ERA), 3-6 with 6.33 ERA at the Cell. GO ASTROS Being in Champaign means that there are lots of Cardinal fans around, so I have watched a good amount of Cardinals baseball in the playoffs. yes this is a team that was scary offensively during the regular season, but currently, beyond the top of their order they don't scare me in the least. Eckstein is a pest, Edmonds is a good hitter, and no one needs to say anything at all about Pujols. I'm not sure if Rolen will be back for the World Series and am too lazy to look that up, but even if he is, it should take time for him to get his timing back. Reggie Sanders has been hitting cleanup on this team, and while he has had a good postseason is certainly a guy that can be pitched to and Larry Walker is not what he once was. The rest of the lineup is not as good as the bottom of the Sox lineup. I think the main reason I do not want the White Sox to face the Astros is because of that bandbox they call a baseball park. The Astros hitters use that short porch in left with dangerous efficiency (see Berkman's homerun in game 5 off Carpenter) and that really frightens me. I feel that the park gives the Astros a significant homefield advantage that the Cardinals do not have. Since the Sox are a very good road team, I don't want to play where that advantage may be mitagated.

So What'd Ticketmaster Charge You Per Ticket?
illinilaw08 replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The site froze as I was giving credit card information so I did not actually get tickets, but it was $5 per ticket in service fee. -
QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) I had 3 tickets to game 2 and Ticketbastard FROZE during at the credit card submission page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had 2 for game 2 and the exact same thing happened to me. f***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I got to the ticket screen for 2 for game 2. Hoping the internet doesnt crap out on me now, but I've spent 5 minutes waiting for the page to load... do I click it again and risk ruining it, or wait?
-
was down to 2 minutes then got bumped to 4... still hopeful though
-
made me do word verification twice... I'm in trouble. But a buddy of mine has less than 1 minute wait. *Crosses fingers*

My .02 on Mariotti... and most sports columnists in general... is that in my opinion the goal of a columnist is to make sports more interesting by reading about it. The major goal of a columnist should not be to rip the team, it should not be to put a negative spin on EVERY situation, and it most certaintly should not be to try and piss readers off to get more hits. Maybe I'm just an idealist in this regard because there are not a whole hell of a lot of columnists out there that fit what I would like to see. The other thing about this point is that there are times when management should be called out in the newspaper and in my opinion, when that happens a columnist is more effective if they don't trash every single move that a franchise makes. Ending rant now.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) I was listening to the audio of that for a good 30 minutes before the Sox game yesterday. When I get back to the apartment, I can post the link of the audio on that one. Please do, that was my favorite Hawk call of the season... though Rooney last night gives me chills. I really cannot say enough about how clutch JOE CREDE has been down the stretch.

Hermy had the best quote during the celebration, "We only get dressed for the champagne baths." I thought that was hilarious. What an amazing display by the starting pitching!
-
I just spent the past hour watching the celebration with the most ridiculous grin on my face. I cannot believe the White Sox are in the World Series, I cannot believe that the starters threw another complete game, 4 more wins boys... just 4 more wins. Wish I could have heard Hawk make the call on the final out though. GO GO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!
-
Win it for Frank, Hawk, Harold Baines and everyone else that has been a loyal member of the organization through good times and bad. And win it for all the long suffering White Sox fans who have stood by this team for the past 88 years. And win it for me because God only knows my schoolwork has suffered because of this team .

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 07:54 AM) Lay off his curveball with two strikes is my biggest key. The game Lackey just pitched against the yankees he honestly threw about 90 percent breaking balls with two strikes, if our guys can lay off that pitch we should be in good shape. If he has scouted the Sox properly, that's exactly what Sox hitters are going to see tonight, 2 strike breaking balls low and away. It seems like every single hitter this year chases that pitch for strike 3. I think we're gonna need a big game out of Jon Garland and to scratch across a couple runs. Lackey is really the only starter on the Anaheim ALCS roster that scares me, winning this game would be a huge boost to our WS chances.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) If your credo all year is to be aggressive, that's the play you make. It took a great slide to the ball, a great pick-up and a near-perfect throw by Robb Quinlan to get Aaron. Two feet to Molina's right, he doesn't make the tag. Two feet to Molina's left, it hits Aaron. I, too was upset that we were run out of the inning, but it's a classic second-guess. When I'm yelling "NOOOOOO" as Cora sends him, that isnt a second guess. Yes it took an excellent play by Quinlan to get Arow, but with no one out, sending him was not the right decision... and that is not just hindsight talking. Glad it didnt come back to haunt us and hopefully Cora learned his lesson there.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) The last 4 teams to go to the WS from the AL lost the first game of the ALCS Now that is a fantastic stat for our Chicago White Sox. Now let's see Mark pitch one hell of a game tonight, the offense return to executing the way they did in ALDS, and send this thing back to California 1-1.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Hopefully, it doesn't become a factor, but I wanted Brandon in the ALDS and the ALCS with Viz being the one to take a seat. Lets not even make it an issue!! GO SOX!!!!!!! I agree. Leaving Viz off the roster is the move to make IMHO. BMAC can eat innings out of the bullpen and proved himself as one of the best young pitchers in baseball in the 2nd half of the season. Though I do have to say, it is VERY nice to have the depth on this team that we can even have a discussion about leaving BMAC off the roster.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) There is a really good post about Man Soo Lee in there as well. I've seen a lot of that from opposing fans this year. Man Soo Lee is a class act all the way and the White Sox are lucky to have him in the organization.
-
Agree. I hate sitting at games, or watching games for that matter, with people who claim to be fans of the team and dont know s*** about baseball or the Chicago White Sox. Keep the bandwagon guys on the North Side. GO WHITE SOX, DONT STOP NOW

AND THATS A WHITE SOX PLAYOFF WINNER
illinilaw08 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
8 more wins. I am man enough to admit that with the last out there were some tears of joy. It feels just as good this morning. Woke up hangover free with the biggest grin on my face. THE WHITE SOX ARE GOING TO THE ALCS!!!!!!!!!!!! -
QUOTE(mkalk @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 08:57 AM) I play "Let's Go Go Go White Sox" every day at least twice. I had it playing on my laptop in the law school common room all day yesterday. People thought I was insane

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Email him and tell him a lot of people on Soxtalk will kick his skinny ass if he changes now Yeah, I just ordered my BMAC, he better not change that s***

I was at Murphys in Champaign, not a ton of Sox fans there, but they knew how I was when Gooch hit the bomb... damn near knocked the table over, sent my beer flying and at the end of the inning I seranaded a few Red Sox fans with one of the worst versions of GO GO WHITE SOX that has ever been sung... looking back on it, a lot of people were seranaded with that song before the night was over.
-
Honestly not sure how to feel about this deal. I guess at this point I'm glad the Bulls got anything at all for Eddy. And Sweetney played well down the stretch, maybe he'll be a major contributor next year and a nice complement to Chandler... or am I just rationalizing.
-
QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) It's just about 24 hrs away and I am already freaking out. I don't know if I can take another 24 hrs of my nerves lol! GO SOX! I know. Trying to concentrate on anything other than White Sox baseball right now is impossible.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) I'm sure Boston was saying the same exact thing last year in the ALCS about Dave Roberts. Agreed. In a close game late, I could see Willie having a major impact as a pinch runner for PK, AJP or Everett. Say what you will about Willie, but he can run and that is why he is on the playoff roster.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) For all those with an ESPN Insider account this link is very interesting. It basically shows all the numbers for how Ortiz and Manny hit. Where they are hot, where they are not, what theeir BA's are against different types of pitches, etc. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/players/insider?playerId=3748 http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/players/insider?playerId=2974 For Ortiz hes a .329 hitter against fastballs and .380 against curveballs. Hes a .213 against sliders and .239 against change ups. His hot zones are middle-middle, middle-away, and up-in. His highest chase zones are middle way in and middle way down. For Manny hes a .293 hitter against fastballs and .194 against curveballs. Hes a .265 hitter against sliders and .257 against changeups. His hot zones are basically everything middle of plate from in to out. His highest chase zones are middle way up and middle way down (kinda dangerous). This is called scouting report information and should be complacent and drilled into every pitcher of the sox clubhouse immediatly and thourougly. We know the matchups, all thats left is to execute like professionals. Lets do it. GO SOX!! Very good stuff. Those two guys are incredibly dangerous, but I'm sure the staff is doing their homework. The key IMO is for Count to keep Damon and Renteria off base so he can avoid any situation favorable to those two hitters. Also, I think late in games Manny can be pitched to more easily than Ortiz who absolutely terrifies me. GO SOX 3 P.M tomorrow cannot get here quickly enough.
