If it really is opposite day, then we should put Toby Hall at 1B or as a pinch runner. -

Funny when you see gamecast with the upcoming line-up, it looks like an all-star game with an A's, Angels and then White Sox player coming up. -

If Massett keeps this up for, let's say the first month of the season, do you still trade him because his value is high? It seems intuitive that you keep him around since he may have finally figured it out but what if its an Aardsma type situation where he is lights out for a month and then regresses to his own mean (7 ERA). -

Ozzie mentioned a short leash on Uribe...how about 3 ABs and 3 Ks...is that short enough? Man, why did he move off starting Pablo... -

Let me repeat my earlier bold prediction: White Sox win 17-12 Let's put up a 5 spot here with a Crede/Uribe single/K combo and a Swisher jack. -

Oh no, Thome can only hit a solo shot this time. They will probably intentionally walk him. -

QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) And the Chris Young watch starts early this year...yay.... Yes, I decided to join in with all the other annoyances of an Opening Day game thread. Some people may be interested in how Chris Young is doing, not to analyze or criticize the trade, but just because he came up through our farm system. I didn't say, "Chris Young homered in his 2nd at-bat...I can't believe we traded this guy...wtf was Kenny thinking." Back to your game thread trolling... -

In other news, Chris Young homered for the the DBacks in the 3rd (after striking out in the 1st). -

Does Mark Buehrle have any options left? I mean his ERA is 37.80...he may need a little seasoning in AAA. I understand all the negativity when the team is struggling in the first game of the season but making blanket statements after one start or 2 at-bats...give me a break. -

What did Cabrera do to "not look good at SS?" -
Javy Dotel No, that's underrating him to the extreme! He is Top 8 (is underrating by ~38% big time? Or else, I guess I should have just put "No") If Dotel doesn't get hurt then that signing would be too good to be true so he probably will be hurt first and then help us out at the end of the year.

Outside of like one game this spring, Linebrink has been lights out...that's good to see. We need one other guy to be dominant out of Thornton, Dotel or MacDougal to really have a solid bridge to Bobby.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) BTW I highly doubt anybody's going on the DL for wisdom teeth. I had all four out at once and I could have played the next day. Well, there goes my plan to keep Massett around longer! I didn't make the mistake twice and made sure to put this last comment in green as my comment about Wasserman going on the DL was also sarcasm.

Is there a rain delay? Why the heck is the live box score not updating? Man, does Obama look jaundiced in Soxfan562004's photo

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) Huh? I thought Wassermann was scheduled to pitch in the game today. And I assume the wisdom tooth pull is a joke, right? Sox roster: Anderson, Quentin in By Mark Gonzales, 2:03 p.m. TUCSON, Ariz. -- Brian Anderson and Carlos Quentin were informed that they made the White Sox's Opening Day roster. The final decision on a reliever will be made Saturday in Memphis. Ehren Wassermann pitched in a minor league game Thursday morning and then was scheduled to have a wisdom tooth pulled. Wassermann, who is battling Nick Masset for the final spot in the bullpen, was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday against Arizona. Masset remains the scheduled starter against the Diamondbacks. That was from a blog my the Trib's Mark Gonzalez

Well, either Massett is going on the 15-day DL with a forearm contusion or Wasserman is going on the 60-day DL with a "wisdom tooth pull." Anyone know how Wasserman looked in the minor league game this morning prior to getting his wisdom tooth pulled?

If we DFA Massett, is he a FA and can sign anywhere or does he go through a waiver priority system? And if its waivers, can we still work out a deal with another team?

Official How Many Games Will the Sox Win Thread
heirdog replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
81. We will be average and always lingering in 3rd place in the division, flirting with 2nd so we won't make any drastic trades. In fact, we may trade more young players by July with the hope to catapult us to 2nd place but we will end up with a 3rd place finish about 18 back from Detroit and 8 back of Cleveland. -
I found this part of the article particularly funny: "The rest of the infield was an abomination. Greg Walker and Fred Manrique formed a punchless right side, and Ozzie Guillen and Steve Lyons were out machines biding their time until building far more successful post-retirement careers." Ah yes, let's get that "punchless" guy to be our hitting coach and how about we have the "out machine" preach to our players about getting on base and giving good at-bats by working counts.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) I may be mistaken, but wouldn't it help Fields defensive ability a bit to have to do so under less than optimal fielding conditions? Isn't this why quarterbacks practice throwing into small targets? Why hitters will often write numbers on tennis balls and put them in a pitching machine to improve their vision? Why golfers will try to putt the ball through a very narrow corridor? What good is fielding in optimal conditions going to do to help Fields improve his fielding? In all the analogies except for baseball, the projectile is moving away from you. So my thoughts as to why its not helpful: 1) Chance of injury 2) Learning to sit back on balls because he gets used to getting funny hops instead of charging grounders that roll true 3) Trying to charge grounders before they take a funny hop instead of getting in good fielding position 4) Getting in the habit of doing a hockey goalie move to block the ball instead of keeping his feet and making the play on speedy runners 5) Chance of injury 6) Did I mention...chance of injury
