Yes, it’s mostly because of the Orioles trade for Crochet and probably the Dodgers trade for Robert Jr. The two other trades are Fedde to Cards and Kopech & Pham to Pirates for Jordan Walker and Pirates OF prospect McAdoo. With that lens, I would much rather have Vargas (over Walker) and the two young upside bats from the Dodgers system then DeRo’s trade proposals. Perhaps a lottery ticket short as @Y2Jimmy0 said but do we really care about another Bryan Flete or whatever his name was in the Quintana deal ?

This is not the prorated 40 HR / season, "average" OF, Eloy, from 2019...this is the current 40 HR total in his last 3 seasons combined DH, Eloy. The #1 prospect in baseball who also happens to be a catcher (current hole in our lineup) with incredible power and a career .827 OPS 2B coming off a batting title that also plays another position of need while having 2 more years of control...let's not overrate our own guys.

Wasn't he suggesting (tweeting/blogging) Quintana to Pirates for Glasnow or Meadows + another mid-tier prospect? When it was all said and done, they gave up a lot more for Archer a year later. Looking back at it, would we have preferred Glasnow, Meadows and Baz for Quintana instead of Eloy and Cease? I like our return better but I'm biased.
