  1. Trade Konerko, Crede, Uribe and Richar to the LA Angels for Kendrick, Adenhardt and a B prospect...problem solved. Stick Swisher at first. Platoon CF/LF with Owens, BA and Ramirez. Kendrick is your 2B. If Swish needs a day off, put Kendrick at first and let Ramirez or Ozuna handle 2B. It would be nice to have a future rotation with Adenhardt, Poreda, Danks, Floyd (if he truly has figured it out) and Buehrle/Vasquez. For the Angels, Crede/Uribe hold down the fort until Wood is ready for 3B or SS. Aybar can take over if Wood settles in at 3rd. Richar replaces Kendrick and Aybar can handle 2B too if Richar is hurt early on. Konerko will be primarily a DH but can spell Kotchman at 1B. That allows them to keep Garrett Anderson in LF and use G. Mattews Jr. as a 4th OF/late innning defensive replacement (expensive but no one will take his contract).
  2. I know we have a log jam of sorts for reserve players but some how, some way I hope Bourgeioise makes the team. He reminds me of Ozuna in '05. He seems to make good things happen and he is hungry (not in the Jenks/Uribe sense but to prove himself). We could have such a versatile bench with Ozuna, Ramirez and Bourgeioise. Quentin and Richar need to get healthy and AAA is probably their March 31 destination. I hope Ramirez beats out Uribe at 2nd so we can keep Anderson as the back-up/ platoon OF and give him one more shot.
  3. I am not sure what the question is "best ERA," "best reliever," or "who do want to have the best year." But I think ERA-wise, it will be Dotel and I want him to have the best year and he will be a pleasant surprise and thus our best reliever...okay so I answered Dotel.
  4. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) Maybe they are stressing hitting line drives instead of the ole lift an' pull Given the current baseball climate, maybe they are off the creams and clears!?!
  5. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) Robby Hammock hits an RBI double off Broadway, 4-4 top of 7th Broadway caught napping on Robby Hammock, gives up a double.
  6. QUOTE(BaseballNick @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) I think we need to get Toby Hall more time at 1B this spring. Toby Hall is still on this team? Where the hell is he? I guess they're keeping him under wraps in case AJ and Thome get hurt...you know, stealing bases.
  7. Damn, MacDougal just annoys me. I'm glad Lumsden and Cortes haven't panned out (yet) because I really hated that trade at the time, even though he was good in his stint with us in '06. I guess he reminds me of Billy Koch...less intimidating but a hard, STRAIGHT ball that gets rocked. How in the world did Thome get a SB? I would have thought that the day I saw Thome get a SB, he would have been traded and running against the battery of Contreras and Pierzynski.
  8. Wasn't there a game thread yesterday? Any updates on score?
  9. I think the Giants and Whitesox were talking a Crede for Lowry swap as a "your damaged goods for my damaged goods" but I am glad from a Whitesox perspective that no move was made. As Kalapse said, Lowry looks like he is right on the cusp of a long rehab period. Crede looks to be okay...and should have a little more value than Lowry. Not sure how Cain has ever come up in this discussion as it would take a lot more than Crede and Uribe (and Anderson for that matter) to land Cain. Would anyone give up Fields and Danks for Cain and a spect? Keeping Crede and Uribe for 1 year (potentially having Uribe at 3rd the following year).
  10. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) Yeah like once. Are we off limits from asking questions in the spring training message board? I was just kidding. Should have used the smiley. You can ask all the ?s you want. It was my bad as I thought you asked the 1st question about BA and then Russell but you only asked about Russell.
  11. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 05:22 PM) Who is Miguel Negron? Don't know and the answer to your next question is "No." In this thread you have shown a propensity to throw out someone's name and then ask, "You think he has any chance at making the team this year?"
  12. Not to get overly excited...but BA is batting .375 in the spring and Chris Young has yet to record a hit.
  13. Rockies are split squad and ole' Scotty Pods is playing in the other game vs. Arizona. Pods is 1 for 1 with a run scored, 2 walks and a stolen base (batting second behind Tavares) And those who are curious, Chris Young...0-3 with 2 strikeouts (batting leadoff)
  14. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) Linebrink and Zambrano(the really really bad one) The Count started going 3 innings with 1 unearned run and no walks. 1 K V. Zambrano? The one that was traded straight up for Scott Kazmir?
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) And another single for BA... Light it up Brian! And as Ozzie said, "Don't count yourself out." We could use a nice Marlin prospect and you could be just the man to bring him to us.
  16. BA caught stealing...5-tool player definitely needs to work on that tool, along with hitting for avg...oh and hitting for power.
  17. Who is the lefty that does not have a beard and is listed as John Danks? I'm pretty sure that's not him. I apologize if this was covered previously but after reviewing 80 pages on another site about the B Wallace trade, I didn't have the patience to search for an answer to this.
  18. Every time news gets out that we are about to sign someone, another team swoops in and sweetens the offer and takes the player away. This could just be Ozzie trying to deny a rumor so no one else sweetens the offer for Colon. I think ImpactoDeportivos may have some inside scoop from Colon or his agent and when/if he passes the physical, the signing will be official.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Well with the number 8 pick, Kenny has been telling us we will pick the best talent. The top ten should be littered with Boras clients as well as other expensive guys. Will we pick up a top 10 talent, or try to pass off a late round reach as gold next year. Depends on how you characterize Jordan Danks: top 10 talent or pyrite?
  20. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 02:11 AM) i thought danks was pitching very well for his experience and age and then it was clear he just got fatigued. Home runs were getting hit on him, but early in the season they were a lot of solo shots that happened because he was challenging batters when no one was on base. I liked what I saw early on. I think he can be a reliable #4 this year. I think he was challenging batters early on (and in spring training) by throwing strikes early in the count. With that, you will give up the homers but he was effective in that a lot of them were solo shots. He tried to be too finesse after the ASB and tried to nip corners, etc. and he fell behind a lot. Then he was forced to challenge batters with hitter's counts and when that happens, you struggle. Yes, he might have been fatigued but I think the bigger change in the performance pre and post ASB was his approach early in counts...throwing strikes vs. falling behind.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Yeah, who was the GM in Toronto then, Gord Ashe? Do you think Gord Ashe hired a Baseball Prospectus writer to work in his front office? f*** no. Law was hired by JP Riccardi, a year after Ashe got s***canned in part because of the Wells trade. By your logic Law never would have been hired by the Jays were it not for that trade. Nice try at revisionist history though. Between your anger and sarcasm, I think I see your point...so Law wasn't in the Bluejays front office when the Sirotka deal went down? And he would not have had a job in the front office if it were not for that trade? Law worked for Baseball prospectus, and then the Bluejays and now back to Baseball prospectus?
  22. QUOTE(rockren @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) Lets not forget Law worked for the Blue Jays when KW dealt them Sirotka for Wells. Remember how KW seemingly mocked Toronto management in the media after they complained about Sirotka being damaged goods? Law hates KW and the WSox. Then shouldn't he be mocking KW by putting DLS at 10, Gio at 15 and Sweeney at 45 or something like that to make it seem like the idiot KW gave up way too much for Swisher? In reality, no writer/analyst would stake their reputation and credibility by pursuing a personal vendetta 10 years later...he just really thinks our system is not very good (much like most experts).
  23. QUOTE(rockren @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) I agree that was probably a sticking point....we wanted Figgins....they wanted to give Matthews. Something along those lines was probably the deal breaker. However if they had the chance to get Erv, Howie and Speier for Konerko....they should've jumped all over it and have worried about who their leadoff hitter was later. Hell if we got Kendrick...I could stomach Jerry Owens in CF leading off. But that would then require Kenny to admit that he traded the great Aaron Cunningham for nothing...he wants Richar to be his under the radar stud. But in all seriousness, Kenny would take Kendrick in a heartbeat. I think the discussion is similar to the Garland to Houston trade last summer...ask for way more as "throw in" (Hunter Pence) and if you get it, you do a deal. This year that throw-in is Kendrick for a Konerko deal to happen. But again, I think Kenny's eventual target in any of these deals is Bedard. Its also interesting to see what Kenny said after the Alexi Ramirez signing that he could become "one of the best short stops" in the game or something to that effect. Does Kenny see a Ramirez, Richar DP combo as the Sox future?
  24. My prediction: 3-way deal (January 23rd) between Sox, Angels and Orioles: Sox trade Kong, Crede, Uribe to Angels Sox trade Danks and Shelby to Orioles Sox receive Bedard, Figgins and Speier Angels trade Figgins and Speier to Sox Angels trade Kendrick, Santana, Wilson to Orioles Angels receive Kong, Crede, Uribe and Hayden Penn Orioles trade Bedard to Sox Orioles trade Penn to Angels Orioles receive Kendrick, Danks, Santana, Shelby and Wilson White Sox fill all holes in one punch with a formidable top 3 rotation of Bedard, Vasquez and Buehrle, a lead-off CF, and another decent bullpen arm. Swisher plays 1B primarily and bats 3rd. Sox have a competitve, balanced team in 2008 and 2009 for that matter. Angels get pop in their line-up with Kong and Crede. Uribe covers SS until Wood is ready to go in 2009. Izturis plays 2B and leads off. Orioles get a nice haul for Bedard with an up-and-coming star at 2B, 2 young starters with upside, a back-up C and a CF of the future. After the trade, Kenny states "it was a large price but guys like Bedard, Figgins and Speier don't come around very often. We are now ready to compete in 2008." He will then trade (maybe before) MacDougal for a prospect or two.
  25. What does the line about the rules prohibit trading 4 of your top prospects mean? Can a team only trade up to 3 of their top prospects and what rank list is this based off?
