QUOTE (soxfan22 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:54 PM) Although I'm not the biggest Obama fan, I gotta be honest it was pretty freaking sweet seeing him head out there in the Sox jacket Same thing for me. When he came out of the dugout w/ the jacket I was like YEAH! Now I am watching his interview w/ Bob Costas.

According to this the Blue Jays may trade Alex Rios to save money to sign Doc Holliday. Thoughts?

Does anyone have any info when it will be on Directv?
-
Do you think the Rays would trade Andy Sonnanstine & Fernando Perez for Dye? Perez could play CF w/ Anderson.

QUOTE (Frank the Tank 35 @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,3109300.story Well, if Sabean wants to restock his team with more veterans... Oh please the Giants will NOT trade for Paulie or Derek. I don't think Paulie would even waive his NTC to go there.

How about we go after Koji Uehara instead of Freddy Garcia? Seems like a better option.

Get Jamie Burke as a throw in w/ a Beltre trade!

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) Can't complain with the production Toby Hall gave us. Good clubhouse guy too, hopefully hes back backing up AJ. I hope you was joking.

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) I would like to see Dye moved, but only for the right package. Some potential trading partners would include teams that are in win-now mode, have money to spend, and have a young player that they don't necessarily have room for on their big club (e.g. Quentin-type find). This player would best fit the team if he were either an OF, 2B, or 3B. Does such a player exist, and could they be had for a package centered around Dye? Dye to the Angels for Figgins, Adenhart, and another prospect.

thanks man! if anyone else has some please send them my way.

QUOTE (beautox @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) Going into this offseason the sox need a CF, MI, 3B and a 4/5th starter. With this post season berth and a young likable core the sox attendance and interest shouldn't slump, and now that the cubs milestone has come to pass their spotlight will diminish a little bit going into '09. This year the sox did a great job of developing young players i would love to see that trend continue into '09. Trade Javy Vazquez and Dotel too the Brewers, Relief pitching will continue to be a premium and no way the brewers can keep Ben and CC. The Sox would get Hardy back and two prospects a 3B and C: two of the following Gamel/Green Lucroy/Salome Hardy is going to continue to be ARB eligible and according to cot's; hes due for a raise beyond 2.65M and they have Alcides Escobar ready to step into SS. As for the prospects they've got depth at both positions in the minors and Bill Hall can always go back to SS if need be. They would be taking on 29M in contracts between both of them for 09/10. As for the prospects the sox system even with a good draft in 08 still needs a drastic overhaul. Trade one of PK/Dye to the Angels/NYY for Figgins and prospects. Go big and go after McClouth Sign Garcia and Let Richard and others battle it out for 5th Starter S Figgins 3B R Hardy SS L McClouth CF R Quentin RF L Thome DH R Konerko 1B S Swisher LF R Ramirez 2B L AJP C Mark John Gavin Freddy Clayton Jenks Linebrink Thornton Carrasco Russell Broadway I don't get all of this attention that Nate McClouth is getting. He's had one good season! I'm sure he has great potential going into the future, but I just don't see that the farm is worth him. Besides that I think this is a good post. I like most of the ideas you shared with us. The only thing is if we trade Dye to the Angels I think we should get Figgins/Adenhart/lower level prospect back for him. Then sign Freddy for the 4th or 5th spot.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) One of them being the Twins, which would suck. Buscher looks like a solid 3Bman too, and I'm pretty sure he's a more valuable commodity than Josh Fields right now. Beltre is a player I really wouldn't get butthurt about if the Sox had to overpay for, even if for one year, because I imagine there's a possibility he'll be a type A free agent, he's fantastic defensively, he has great power, and he has shown that in a contract year, he'll explode. He just seems like the perfect candidate to me. Fields, Shelby, and Broadway for Beltre? M's would also get salary relief. If he leaves we'll get the picks. Too bad Bavasi(spelling?) isn't the GM still.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:37 PM) Pedro and Ozzie will end up having a knife fight on the dugout after Pedro gets bombed.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) I still don't like that deal. I'd like the Angels deal but with Javy we should target pitching. Even though Javy has kicked the genitalia of every Sox fan out there, let's not forget he's still a #3 starter capable of pitching in the AL and in the Cell. He's very valuable to this team over a 162 game season, if not in the playoffs, so we'll need to pick some guys up that we'll be able to count on to replace that next year and going forward. I am assuming your wanting a Garcia type deal. Well I don't see too many teams doing that.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) Penny is a flyball pitcher with an ERA over 6 in a hitters park in the National League. He's got a cheap option yet the Dodgers will decline it, and he sounds like a real asshole to boot. Richard IMO doesn't have the stuff to get through the lineup 3 times. His job should be what Horacio Ramirez's job was supposed to be: long relief and lefty match-ups. If the Sox traded Dye for Figgins straight up I'd find where Kenny lives and pelt his house with bags of my own s***. Figgins is very good, and I want him, but if that deal goes down we'd better be getting something else. Since 2005 JD has been one of the better run producers in the league, he's on a below-market deal for 2 more seasons, and he carries no baggage. Well how do you see us getting Figgins? I wouldn't want to do that deal either. I would prefer if it was PK going not JD. I agree w/ you on Richard but do we have a better option(Egbert, Broadway)? If you go the FA to fix the spot Javy leaves who do you get? Lowe(Too much money)? Garland(Too much money & years)?

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) We all know that KW likes to go after guys numerous times when he thinks they might be available. If the Sox decided to keep Alexei at 2B, Edgar Renteria could be a possible option at SS. This is true, but I hope he doesn't do this one. Edgar needs to go back to AAAA(NL) where he belongs. I see him in a Cardinals jersey next season.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) A deal like that would kill this team. We don't need Hardy for his offense or his defense, and if we trade pitching, we'll need even more pitching than we already need right now (unless you buy Richard as a starter, I don't). Deal Javy to the Mets, Phils, or Braves. He'll only accept deals to teams closer to his home, and Kenny will want him in the NL, so those teams make the most sense. Depending on what they do, even the Nats or Orioles could be a darkhorse. The target should be near-ready prospects and underachieving pre-arb players with high ceilings. I expect to see a Freddy Garcia type of trade made, except this time the return will look better on paper at the time it's made. I wouldn't be opposed to dealing Dye to someone for pitching as well. I want Tampa Bay in the picture if we're dealing him because I want their pitching prospects, at least a couple of them. I have a feeling the Yankees would be in on JD if he's made available. Who knows who else would have interest and the pieces to make a deal, but there are a lot of teams out there thinking they'll be contenders in '09. What if the Sox did the Brewers trade and the flipped JD for Figgins & Adenhart for LAA?

Hey guys I've been "lurking" for years on Soxtalk and it is BY FAR my favorite Sox site out there. I was wondering if anyone knows addresses to other MLB team fan sites like Soxtalk? Thanks!

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) The last thing we need to do is spend another 3-4 mil on a reliever. We have plenty of lefty options (Boone, Poreda). If Boone was an option why would we trade for Ramirez from KC?
-
Here's mine.... 3B-Figgins(Dye traded to fill their DH spot) SS-Hardy(traded for Vazquez)(I like this idea) RF-Quentin DH-Thome 1B-Konerko 2B-Ramirez LF-Swisher C-Pierzynski CF-Gwynn(Part of the Vazquez trade) SP-Buehrle SP-Floyd SP-Danks SP-Penny SP-Richard CP-Jenks RP-Thornton RP-McClung RP-Linebrink RP-Rhodes(FA Signing) LRP-Carrascco

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) I actually hope we hold on to Boone and give him another try as a loogy. God no! I'm sorry I cannot stand Boone. Sign Rhodes for the loggy spot.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Aww, for the 1st fake lineup for 2009! Only hours after the season ended no less! 3B-Figgins(I'm not even sure how this one gets done, but it does make all the sense in the world) SS-Hardy(traded for Vazquez) RF-Quentin DH-Thome 1B-Konerko 2B-Ramirez LF-Swisher C-Pierzynski CF-Anderson SP-Buehrle SP-Floyd SP-Danks SP-DyeTrade SP-Garcia The team defense is improved a lot in that scenerio, and the core is still fairly young. Garcia....no thanks! Anderson.....Starting...no thanks! What about Brad Penny on a one year deal? Then put Richard in the 5th spot. Would the Angels trade Adenhart(or another minor leaguer SP) & Figgins for Dye?

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) If we go after Weeks, I'll have KW's head. LoL, I guess I haven't seen much of him. What's his problem, he seems to have alot of talent. I mean if you get Hardy we still do not have a leadoff guy or a guy who can hit second in the lineup. Also why is everyone so down on Fields? I'll admit I haven't had time to pay attention to the minors as much as I usually do.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) J.J. Hardy and Seth McClung Really!? Where would Hardy play? I was thinking maybe Weeks and some others.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) I've been saying that for a while, you cheater! Thankfully, I heard Punto might extend with the Twins. That thought actually came across my mind, until I got to thinking about other bad player that play good againist us.
