I heard he got 5 years @ 80 million. THAT'S CRAZY! Good for Aaron bad for the Giants & the rest of baseball. That will only drive up prices even more. I heard that he got 80 mil from SFGate.com

On the ALCS Ken Rosenthal said that Bill Stoneman will step down. WOW! Who's next? Cashman?
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) It is more Stoneman that would have the stroke than Moreno. I would definitely have no problem with that deal. Burrell slides in at LF, Figgins in CF (or at 2nd or SS), Dye in RF, Fields at 3rd, Insert SS, Richar, Kochman, AJP behind the plate. That is a pretty solid offense and you obviously get picks for Burrell if he walks (than again you'd get picks for Crede too most likely). What do you think the lineup would look like if the Sox sign Hunter also? SS could be fill by Wood? PLUS just imagine how many times we can hear Hawk say "He loves Wood" lol
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) The speculation you read on that site is pretty much useless but Burrell for Crede? f***.Yes. I wouldn't even think twice. Yes I know about the site, but I thought it would be a fun discussion. What would you guys think if the Sox traded PK & Jon to LAA for Kotchman, Santana, Figgins, and Wood. Then did the Phillies deal? Could we still get Hunter?
-
I found this from the MLBTR site. I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone would think if the Sox traded Crede to the Phils for Burrell.

Do you guys know of any other fans websites/forums(like SoxTalk) are? I cannot find too many. Thanks!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) You are I are looking @ totally different stat sheets sir. From the numbers I'm seeing, lefties hit .221 against Boone, and had an Andy-Gonzalez-like .584 OPS against him. Sorry I was crossing up two different categories. Sorry about that. Like I said earlier if we keep Boone I wouldn't be mad. I think this bullpen needs more veteran players(not name Bukvich or Myers) in it to help the younger guys.

With all of the Japanese players the might come over this year I found a article that gives a look at everyone that could come over. Looks like it was done before the 07 season started. Take a look & discuss.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) Having the worst defense in baseball is not a way to win anything. I like Rowand, but I prefer we sign Hunter. We need a change of pace, not a return to the glory year of Rowand, who is due to come back to earth. We do need Renteria or somebody else at ss however. We need to do what the Cubs did last offseason, some serious spending and tinkering and we'll be back in the hunt. If we make very few moves we will probably finish the last next year as KC figures to pass us by. Although the Royals continue to be hexied. Kyle Davies was not a good pickup for them it appears. They also have some potential bullpen issues if Zack returns to the starting rotation. Sox better make some moves w/out breaking up the 3 good starters. We can't win without 3 reliable starters. It'd be nice to pick up a veteran off the scrap heap. I'm rambling but the thing we've been missing .... a Dustin Hermanson type! I would like to know how we can sign Hunter and get a better SS without trading Jon Garland. Like I said earlier Rowand doesn't deserve a contract like he's gonna get. I LOVE the idea of Hunter, but not @ 80+Mil. If the Royals get a good manager and spend some money here and there I think they have the makings of a good team. Not a playoff team next but soon. I think the Sox, Tigers, and Twins are on the downward spiral over the next couple years. Of those 3 teams I can see the Tigers having the best shot at staying towards the top of the Central division. Like the other poster said I would like the Sox to cut Toby & sign a better C as a backup. Maybe trying to make a move for Jeff Mathis if the Angels are still down on him. If the Cubs cut Prior loose I wouldn't mind taking a look at him. I think someone will give him more money though. Can you image if sign Prior and he bounced back what the Cub fans would say or do? lol Back to Boone Logan, listen I'm bias against him. I'm not his biggest fan at all. He let LH hit .296 against him. To me your sole purpose as a LOGGY is to not allow LH on that much. Just like Myers allowing LH to hit .379 when he was with Yankees & .353 with us. THAT'S BAD! But you know what? Bullpens are crazy. One year someone like Myers or Logan gets lit up, next year they are lights out. GMs throwing money at bullpen arms are just as crazy. I think a bullpen should be build through the minors with a touch of veterans to help the young guys out. With that in mind I wouldn't mind seeing Boone back out there at all. Now if we had to throw Iwase a 5 mil per year deal I wouldn't do that. I'm sure some team will though. If you think some of the ideas floating around here are "xbox" like in nature. You should see some on other boards. I went to a board for the Dodgers and someone was purposing a Hu for Crede deal. Now how fast would it take you to say yes to that? I saw another one on the same board purposing a Kent & Lowe deal for Garland & prospects I think. lol Anyways I love this discussion keep it going.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) And in your scenario what becomes of the best left handed specialist on the team (Logan)? And what major league player are you trading for Covelli Crisp? Or are you getting him for free because the Red Sox need to cut payroll, open a spot for Ellsbury and help their BFF White Sox? Also Crisp has 2 years and $11M remaining on his current deal what has he done recently to make you believe he's worth that sort of money? I would try to trade Logan or McDougal, Crede(To replace Lowell if he leaves), and McCulloch. If that wasn't possible then I would keep Crede, plug Fields in @ LF, and Fukudome @ CF for a season. 2 years @ 11 Mil isn't bad considering today's contract being handed out. I mean what has Aaron Rowand done in the last few seasons to justify the numbers he might get this offseason. Coco plays good D, gets on base, and handles the bat enough for we need him for. Plus if they really want to help their BFF White Sox they should hand us over Manny & Ortiz & pay their contracts for Mr. Grinder Darin Erstad. Another all of this talk about what could happen this offseason I wouldn't doubt that our OF looks like this in 2008 Fields, 90% Erstad/10% Owens, and Dye.
-
What about we trade Crede for anything. Then get Coco from the Red Sox to play CF. the money would off set each other off. Then use my earlier plan in the thread. 1. Furcal SS 2. Fukudome LF 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Fields 3B 7. AJ C 8. Crisp CF 9. Richar 2B Sign Iwase to be the other LH out of the pen w/ Matt. Sign LaTroy Hawkins to the pen. We will not get any good offers for Jose so we keep him. Bullpen would look like this: Hawkins RH Wasserman RH Thornton LH Iwase LH *Minor Leaguer or Non Roster Invitee* Jenks Give me your thoughts. lol, I need to stay away from the XBox.

QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Japanese pitchers seem to work for about a year, but after that they usually loose their effectiveness. At least that's what I've always observed. The more the pitcher is seen, the easier he is to handle, for example Okajima was dominate in the first half of this year but after the AS break he wasn't very good. I guess I don't want a long term contract, or maybe if we did sign a Japanese pitcher we could trade him after next year. In some cases that has been true. Beside money what the difference between that and prospects? You sign him to a small deal with some good options on the back end for him. I wouldn't sign ANY pitch from over there to a Dice K type deal. To me, that's like signing a player out of the draft for 50 Mil. YOu don't know what you are getting. Anyone remember Hideki Irabu? Small deal is the way to go. If someone throws him a stupid amount of money then say good luck to him and move on.
-
That list is for I think the Sox need. Not of the overall CF picture. Sorry about that.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Andruw Jones says hola! lmao, I don't even consider him. NO WAY the Sox talk to him about a contract.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) Cameron would be a perfect fit if he was willing to come back here (I thought there were issues when he was traded and he departed on some not-too-happy terms). He's still average-to-above-average defensively in center and he's not going to get anywhere near as much Hunter, Jones or Rowand. Getting him would leave you with a lot of flexibility for getting a new SS. I'd enjoy a lineup of... SS Furcal CF Cameron DH Thome 1B Konerko RF Dye LF Fields C Pierzynski 3B Crede 2B Richar This team also looks better defensively than last year, with two huge improvements at 3B (full season of Crede) and CF. I wouldn't be opposed to that lineup, BUT I think Cameron will get injured too much during his contract. Plus his strikeouts worry me. I would rate CF FA's like this: 1. Fukudome 2. Rowand 3. Hunter 4. Cameron 5. Patterson I take in consideration $$$, contract length, production, and money to be made off them for the club. I think Fukudome brings in more money for the Sox because the Japanese market. Rowand would help in the local market.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) I think the Red Sox have more than enough outfielders with Manny, Crisp, Ellsbury and Drew. The fact that the Sox have been actively scouting him is quite encouraging, his career 80+ ISOd would look awful good at the top of the order and having a strong arm in LF/CF would be a very nice change of pace from what we've grown accustomed to. Looks like he doesn't steal alot of bases though. I believe we need a base stealer to help us. In 05 Scotty would make the pitcher worry about him stealing than the man at bat sometimes. Which is a great item to have. One of the reason I think we should sign him is because of the Japanese market needs to be tapped into by us. I believe if we don't tap into it soon we'll be hurting in 10-20 years from now. I think the Japanese league will produce good major leaguers in the future. I believe Hunter will get a contract in the range of 80-105Mil for way too many years. He just isn't that "type" of player. Aaron will get a contract paying him 10-14Mil a year. Same thing can be said about him. Fukudome is a unknown. Cameron is too old & gets hurt way too much for us. Chris Young sounds good out in CF doesn't he? I hope the Sox sign Fukudome to play CF this year and move him to LF or RF next year. Dye moves to LF then. Then maybe Owens might develop some more to play LF or CF. Trade Garland to LA for Furcal & Meloan. 1. Furcal SS 2. Fukudome CF 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Fields LF 7. Crede 3B 8. AJ C 9. Richar 2B OBP & Speed at the top. Hopefully power in the middle.

QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 02:51 AM) I think Fukodome had surgery in August, so he's kind of a question mark anyways. I've been reading on the net that the wrong Sox & YankMes are after him. I guess when you have unlimited money you can pay a 4th or 5th OF 8-14Mil a year.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) Here's a better clip of Uehara: From that little clip, it looks like he throws a 'hard' fastball -- middle 90s is what I'd guess. It appears he was starting in this game so, if asked to pitch only one inning, perhaps he could get it up to 95-96. He throws a two seamer that he uses to jam lefties and paint the outside corner to righties. It's got a little bit of run back to the plate -- not like Josh Beckett but still pretty decent. He throws a filthy splitter/forkball that just falls off the table. He also throws a slider, although he only threw it a few times and one of 'em he hung real bad. I wouldn't be interested in him as a starter but I expect the Sox to bring in at least one reliever from the Japanese market -- maybe Uehara is that guy. I found this on a website that might be of interest.
-
He seems to be interested in signing with the Sox. Right now he is closing for the Giants in Japan. I haven't read anywhere why he is closing not starting. He seems to be a good fit for the pen or a backup if we trade both Jose & Jon in the rotation. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Koji_Uehara

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) Please no, he strikes out a ton and is a poor defender, and I hear hes very similar to Adam Dunn of the reds. This is not a guy youd want leading off for us, but I wont completely throw it out the window. Well after reading a scouting report and more stats of him @ ArmchairGM I think your right. Now my question is would the Dodgers take Garland for Furcal & Meloan/Hull/Proctor? Then we can sign Rowand to play CF, even though I think he will not live up to his contract. 1. Furcal SS 2. Rowand CF 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Fields LF 7. Crede 3B 8. AJ C 9. Richar 2B

Maybe a few seasons ago but not with this team.

Sox trade Garland to the Mariners for Wladimir Balentien & Brandon Morrow. Sox sign Kosuke Fukudome to play CF. Trade Crede to a team that needs a 3B. (Phillies?) Sign Tomohiro Nioka(2yr Iguchi type deal) or sign Eckstein to a 3 yr deal worth 12-15mil to play SS. 1. Fukudome CF 2. Nioka/Eckstein SS 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Fields 3B 7. Balentien LF 8. AJ C 9. Richar 2B Put Morrow in pen. The reason I say trade him to the Mariners in because I don't think the Dodgers will trade us Furcal & a young RP for Garland. If they did I would say we still sign Fukudome to play CF. I think he will be a on base machine for whoever signs him. I looked at Tomohiro Nioka stats, and he sounds like Gooch all over again. Well that is my 2 cents. Now I will put my Xbox away. What do you think?
