  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) What does my day have to do with anything? Actually my day is going quite well, thank you. Are you trying to make this personal? I suggest you don't, read the thread pinned at the top of the board. I realize you are new so you may feel you have to try and convince people of your point, but you're off to a bad start. You made your point 20 times already. Your point is, they should try to shake up the lineup to get an offensive boost. WE GET IT. You sound like you are angry. That is why I asked how your day is. If I offended you I apologize. Furthermore, I will be the better man and walk away. I would not want to upset you more.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Yup I responded to you because it's a message board. If you don't like my responses, so be it. I called you out about beating your point to death. Further, your point about starting Ozuna over Uribe shows a lack of understanding of why this team is in first place to begin with. Are you having a bad day Jim?
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Let's see, 50 posts and you're running around telling everybody how to post. I would say that's rude. I'm debating your point, you keep beating it to death. Don't like my posts? It works both ways, don't respond then. I never said anything was wrong with your posts. I could care less about your posts. You responded to me.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) No it's not beyond stupid to say there is no place to play Gload. There is no conspiracy theory, no matter how many times you post it, you aren't gonna change anyone's mind. Let it drop, your point has been made several times over. RUDE you can disagree all you want, Iaccept that. But if you don't like the post or it upsets you, don't respond
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) I don't care if he hit .270 if it's all singles. What this team needs is offensive production, not a worthless 2 out single down 7-2. What we should be doing is shaking up the lineup. I did like the adjustment Uribe seemed to be making with his stance. It's about time he tried something new. The better adjustment for Uribe would be on the bench with Pablo starting, but that is another post. When rarely have more than a few hits, having a few singles is a start. We could have used A HIT a few times with runners on last night or how about in Freddy' no hitter. You can wait for a three run homer, look at the twins the past few years.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) You're preaching to the choir about that. No one on this site thinks we need an offensive upgrade more than I do. However, you make it seem like Gload is guaranteed to bat .370 for the Sox and get a clutch hit every AB. If Gload hit .270, the only person in our line up better would be Iguchi. I am just suggesting that we try something different to get a spark. If we fail, it is not like we can make the offense worse.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) The team is built on pitching and defense. They are NOT going to bench an excellent defensive CF to start a career minor leaguer at DH. Well we agree to disagree. If we could find a away to balance Everett and Thomas, it is beyond stupid to say there is no place to Gload to play. Particularly when we had to sit through 2 weeks of Timo.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) So you downgrade the defense at two positions. You have two guys in the outfield who are both coming off of injuries. Not exactly a formula for winning baseball. Well we have not exactly been a winning team lately, have we?
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) I do enjoy him being one of the best power hitters in the AL from a power hitting position. In times when this offense is slumping, it's easy to tell that PK is the best overall hitter on this team. Which does not say much for the offense. :banghead
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Where would Gload play? Gload's not better than Everett. He can't play the outfield due to his injury. Our offense needs help....but Gload isn't the solution. And I've never been accused of being one of Ozzie's boys, I can guarantee that. It is too bad Gload can't play Shortstop or Third. How about this scenario. LF Everett CF Pods Rf Die DH Gload 1B Pop Up Paulie Arow is struggling since June. Everett defense is not nearly on par, but we need offense.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) There's no comparison between the offensive production of PK and Gload. PK's numbers at least can be compared to those guys you mentioned, and not be laughed at. And Anaheim's first baseman isn't even in the same league as PK or those other guys. Actually, the guys you all list are mostly DH. PK is better than Broussard, Millar, Erstad, and Tino. DO you enjoy watching Pop Up Paulie walk to the plate 4 times a game in the 3 hole only to pop up twice, K once with runners on base, then single with the bases empty consistently? Do you honostly see him as a clutch hitter?
  12. Anybody that can not see that giving Gload a chance is worth it for the struggling offense, must be one of Ozzie's boys too. There is no logical explanation for not trying to shake things up when the offense is struggling.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) Exactly, AT THE END! He faced a lot of September call-ups during that stretch. Gload is a very solid bench player, but you're team is at a major disadvantage at the 1b position compared to other teams if he's your starter. Compare that to now. Where does PK rack against the 1B of the contenting AL teams. Giambi is better. Ortiz is better (when he plays 1B), Cleveland and Anahiem are better too
  14. With the way he played at the end of 2004, I don't know why nobody sees GLoad as a viable replacement. He hits for average (nobody else on the team does), he is a lefty, plays a solid 1B (was a defensive replacement for Konerko in several games), I think he even batted 3rd at the end of 2004
  15. QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Ok, story time! I dont know what Dybzinski did (too young) and I cant find the story, so now I need to know. As for Buckner, it was ridiculous to hate him. Buckner was a solid player who made a huge mistake in game six of the WS. For instance, last night Tad had a horrible game. If that was game 7 of the WS, he would have been blamed and hated for years to come. Would it have been fair? No. And its the same way with Buckner. Dybzinski however was a lousy player who apparently made a bigtime blunder, so thats more understandable. Dybber was a backup infielder (about equal to Greg Norton in modern stadards), that over ran the base in the 83 ALCS. Many argue that in cost us the series.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Why do you think they won't so much, when recent history seems to indicate anything but that? They payroll has always increased/decreased with the corresponding move in attendance. We are looking at about a 20% increase in this years attendance, so now all of the sudden the Sox will turn their backs on about 10 years worth of behavior? Why do you think that? Exactly The Reinsdorf Therom Attendance = payroll
  17. This Post reaks of a scene from Monty Python and Holy Grail in which the guards keep getting the directions wrong for guarding the prince from fleeing his wedding.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) I honestly hope a lot of you aren't disappointed when we don't spend all this money we supposedly have. I would love to be wrong, but I'm not expecting a lot of big spending. I don't think we expect Big Money to be spend, but I think money will be spend. There has been a tremendous spike in attendance. (15 sellouts?) KW can fly under the radar and say not to expect anything big, but I expect something to happen.
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) If they get a big bat that also can hot for average (yes, I'm dreaming), I'm all for Paul KKKKKKKKKKKKKonerko being gone. AS would I, just not sure who we could get. I know we have the $$$, and I don't want to overpay for Pop Up Paulie.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) Konerko has stated recently he doesn't want to go play for an East Coast Team because he doesn't want to live there. That cuts the Mets, Yankees and Red Sox out of the bidding. And I doubt Gload will be back next season, if he has a choice. Money talks, and you know what walks. How many players (Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina come to mind) said they would never play for New York, and look what happens. They bend over and take it in the cash. PK is probably gone. The Dodgers are another possibility.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) Gload won't be the starting 1b for the Sox next year. I will guarantee that. Then if Paulie isn't, who do you expect will?
  22. I don't suspect Paulie will be back next year with the :puke Yanks and :puke Red Cubs likely to throw a ton of money at him. This is fine because I would never overpay for Paulie. That being said, Gload could be the starting 1B next year. If this is a possibility, I would like to see him having more opportunity to prove himself.
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) And Timo is? Timo is one of Ozzie's Boys. That is the only reason he is on the team.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) Gload's injury this season cost him his ability to play the outfield...which wasn't much of an ability to begin with. In the minds of our mgmt., back-up first baseman was not a very critical position. Thus, that's the reason he hasn't been up. Also, it's not like he was tearing the cover off the ball when he was with the Sox THIS season. One of the biggest mistakes someone can make is putting too much stock in minor league numbers. His playing time with the team with year was VERY inconsistant, so I can not blame him for not playing well. He has hit well in his other limited playing time last year. Let's face it, the sox are starved for offense.
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) He will be here in two days. HE will see the bench, but will he see the field. I don't think he is one of "Ozzie's boys"
