QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) I love this guy. This arguement is ridiculous. The army is a volunteer army, and if they are concerned that the President, whoever it may be, is going to be a Hawk, then don't join the army. Once you do, they own you, and they should get the full support of our country. If Mitt Romney wants to increase the size of the military, great. Again, it's a volunteer army, and if the citizens buy what his administation is selling, I don't see the problem.

Maybe this is a sign that the White Sox have decided to further increase their payroll this off-season to get this team back into contention ?

If the White Sox sign Jermaine Dye to a 2 or 3 year deal at 10-12 million a season, I don't think they will go out on the free agent market to even add a player like Aaron Rowand. In fact, wouldn't signing Dye mean the White Sox are more likely to move Jon Garland for 2 younger players given the payroll would be extremely tight ?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) This board in general really overstates 2 month rentals who are hitting .230 trade value. It also overrates prospects as well.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 06:23 AM) Both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald say that the Dye deal is becoming more likely. Although neither paper specifies the offer, they both say Pena is a likely part of the deal, and one paper said that Boston is thinking about trading Delcarmen, formerly not available. Yeah, Pena seems to be a lock to come to the White Sox. It's just a matter now of figuring out the prospect.

I have a hard time believing that Kenny goes the draft pick route here. Those would be useful picks, but he's not looking to rebuild, and I think he'd want part(s) that can help for next season as opposed to possibly 3-4 years down the road.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:34 AM) Due to a lack of quality large photos there will be only 1024x768. 1024x768 It looks really nice! Thanks for your hard work!

I think Josh Fields may have earned some wallpaper.

Is the August Wallpaper Available Yet ? If not, will it be posted soon ?

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) It is thought the White Sox might then trade Pena. Hmmm, the plot thickens. Get Pena (he's not a rental) and deal him in a package to some shlump Does anybody want this guy BESIDES the White Sox ?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) Full report from Boston.com. So, the White Sox may have gone from asking for Boston's top prospects to some mid-tier guys ???? Is anyone else not excited about W.Pena ?

How many relief pitchers are the White Sox really going to be in the market for ? Bobby Jenks is the closer Matt Thorton is one setup man. Boone Logan will be a lefty specialst. Mike MacDougle is going to be on the roster because of his contract. Maybe he rebounds, and reclaims that setup role, but he will be there barring a salary dump. Bucvich or Haegar (at least until recently) - you'd figure at least one of them will have a shot of making the roster, and then there's guys like Ardsama who still throws hard, but maybe a guy they haven't shut the door on yet. Point is, I would like to see one setup guy with a good track record brought in....after that, I think it's the same guys who are currently here.

The Rays just traded Ty Wigginton to Houston for Dan Wheeler, shortly after scratching Wigginton from the starting lineup. Wheeler, who made 30 appearances for the Rays between 1999 and 2001, was 1-4 with a 5.07 ERA and 11 saves in 45 appearances for the Astros this season. He walked 13 and struck out 56 in 49 2/3 innings.

Iguchi Traded to Phillies for RP/SP Michael Dubee
spiderman replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) See, that's the problem, I don't think anyone here would complain if we got back something we'd consider to be a "Mid-level" guy, but aside from the k/9IP, this guy doesn't sound like that to me. Sounds like a RP who we'll be lucky if he ever sees the big leagues. I think that's where we differ. I don't care if we got a bag of balls for Iguchi. I'm more concerned with seeing how Richar performs with the last 2 months of the season, and am hoping that he can provide us with at least decent production, and allow us to allocate more money in our budget to other areas of the payroll. -

This trade wasn't about what we got back - it's about opening the position for Richar. To think, we'd get anything more than a mid-level (if he's even that) prospect for a struggling player on the last year of his contract is unrealistic, and wishful thinking. Hopefully, the White Sox are smart enough to get an extended look at Richar for the remainder of the season. -
Mariners Looking at Dye; Sox Looking at Otsuka

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) So you don't think Joe will be productive and worth that $5 mill? I disagree. By all accounts, Joe should be ready to go. And who plays LF, with Fields at 3B, that you can sign for $5 mill? The sox can probably pay a bullpen guy and Crede for the money the sox would have to pay a free agent who can play LF and put up Crede's numbers. I agree some money should be spent on the bullpen. But are you going to stock up with big money guys ala the Orioles? The sox will probably trade for one reliever and sign another. And find a few guys from the system who can be solid. Jenks, MacDougle, Logan, Thorton are most likely part of the bullpen next season, but I would agree that I would love to see one veteran brought in to help in the 7th/8th innings. The problem is those veteran bullpen arms are so inconsistent year to year, it's hard to know exactly what you are getting until they pitch. If we can add one veteran, then there are still another 1-2 spots open, but I'm guessing those will be kept inhouse, and then they will also hope/pray that MacDougle rebounds. -
Braves made offer to White Sox
spiderman replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Renteria did struggle in his only year in the AL with Boston a few seasons ago, and has been very good in the NL....What is his contract status ? Obvious Problems: 1) If we trade Garland, I'd think it would have to be for 2 younger players with not much money coming back. Renteria, I'm guessing, makes pretty good coin. 2) While the White Sox probably do need to consider moving Garland because of his contract status, moving him also makes it less likely that the White Sox will be contenders in the AL Central given that they would be depending on young starters (and we've seen how the Sox minor league system hasn't been productive) The benefits: 1) Juan Uribe era is over. He's horrible, and Renteria could bat at the top of the lineup. 2) Garland probably won't be resigned, and the White Sox move him for a player who can help now. -------- I would not make this trade simply because of the financials though. Our payroll looks so strapped that it's nearly impossible to make trades unless it's for exclusively young talent. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) Trade Contreras to the Mets for a minor league shortstop. Or trade him to the Braves for somebody. I don't care if the White Sox get anything back for Contreras. If we are lucky enough to find a team that is willing to take his contract, be happy with that. Even if we have to write a check to cover a small portion, take that and be happy with that as well.
-
I would start Floyd in Game 2, and move him to the bullpen if he is halfway decent. I know his future is as a starter, but until Contreras is moved, we don't have an opening in the rotation, and that bullpen is just god awful. If he keep his ERA below 5.00, he'd be a major upgrade (sad to say) in our bullpen. Hopefully, though, Contreras is moved in the next 10 days....

Why the heck not Eric Byrnes next year...
spiderman replied to Wanne's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Yes. Like I keep saying, this team needs to get younger and cheaper. If we can't get something out of the guys we currently have in our minors (Anderson, Sweeney, Floyd, Gio, Owens, Richar), then either we need to move a couple guys to find young talent to fill those holes (Garland?) or we need to just blow it all up, take a top-of-the-draft pick the next 3-4 years, and come out hopefully as stocked as the Tigers are now. They need 2 or 3 younger players to step up, and take some of these holes (SS, 2B, LF, CF, RF), and then they do probably need to trade 2 out of 3 between Contreras, and then either Garland or Vazquez. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) It's 10 players that are guaranteed ~$79M. Are we talking about AJ, Konerko, Thome, Buerhle, Garland, MacDougle, Thorton, Jenks, Vazquez, and Contreras ? Is Uribe included in this ? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Byrnes is going to want a 5/60 contract. Don't the White Sox have about 10-12 players locked up already next year to about 80 million or so ? That would seem to eliminate them from going on a spending spree in free agency without clearing significant payroll first, correct ? -
The .198 Hinske overshift, Ozzie's brilliance at work
spiderman replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 21, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) I just have to add this. What the hell has Owens done to "earn a spot"? Have I not been watching? Has the talent level sunk that low? Compared to the other players coming up from the minors, he's been unbelievable, so the bar has been set somewhat low. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) Because we have a game thread for this and with the site problems, I doubt the site needs a thread as useless as this one. We all know it was a huge f*ck up. If the site is going to go down because of an additional thread, it probably needs to be fixed which hopefully would be fast because I love the arguments on this site.
