  1. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) I've been on this bandwagon for 2 years now. It's obvious the DBack's either want to go a different direction or not give him the money he wants. The whole "grinder" crap aside...why not Eric Byrnes? Name me some better options next year when he hits the FA market. Probably because I think they are going to sign Aaron Rowand, and I don't think they are going to go on a spending spree when they already have so many players locked up, and will probably have to move some of their current players (for example, Contreras) to free up some flexibility in the payroll.
  2. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) Realistically, we need to take what we can get for Jose and may have to look at it more along the lines of a salary dump. There is no chance in hell of getting elite prospects for Jose. Can you imagine how lit up he could get if trade to Colorado? If you thought Sisco's line in Triple A last was ugly ... Be satisfied with getting rid of as much of his contract as possible.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) I am okay with Haeger coming up. But what doesnt make sense is why Massett is still up here, because they fill a similiar role. They should send down Masset and have him focus on what he is best at, and that is starting. Build him up, and get his arm stretched out. Then call Richar up and see what we have there. Yes, I agree. Let's get Masset back on track in the minors, and in a starting role. In the meantime, Haegar can fill his long-relief role, getting knocked around role.
  4. From the Chicago Tribune WebSite: Crede to start rehab in Arizona White Sox third baseman Joe Crede will start his rehabilitation program on his lower back this week in Arizona. That development was revealed Monday by agent Scott Boras, who declined to confirm whether his client would be ready to return by the end of the regular season. "The main thing is we want him back healthy and at full strength," Boras said. "The key is that we resolved a problem that Joe had been playing in a great deal of pain and seeing that the problem is not something that would affect his long-term future. That he's going to be a completely healthy player again is something we're really happy about getting accomplished." Boras said Crede's operation, in which fluid and small particles were removed from the area where nerves were irritated, was "a very easy fix and the doctor (Robert Watkins) is very optimistic about Joe's full return and just a matter of time in him going forward." After Crede was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 6 and underwent surgery a week later, many Sox observers wondered why Crede didn't have off-season surgery to repair the bulging disks in Crede's lower back. But "the doctors all said they were against surgery because the pain level was symptomatic. The doctors recommended he not have surgery because he had a great season, played well and didn't affect his play," Boras said. "It was just the wear and tear of the season brought it to this level.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) You could certainly be right. I just think most of us here had our expectations a little too high when it came to what we could receive for Freddy, I know I did. Maybe, but according to Kenny, Gio Gonzalez is the best left handed prospect around. I think they were expecting Floyd to win the 5th job though.
  6. If Crede is healthy, does that mean Josh Fields moves to LF OR have they given up on that idea ? Watching Fields play 3B at times is hard to watch. He does make some tough plays, but he's probably average at best.
  7. I think we have to assume that Josh Fields will be at 3B next season, and that one of those young OF's (Owens/Sweeney, possibly Anderson) will take at least one OF spot. The player acquired from Arizona (Richar) could be our 2B next season or at least part of a platoon with Ozuna. We still need a SS, and 2 OF's, but as has been previously posted, I don't think they will spend for a Torii Hunter, but instead will look at mid-level, under the radar players.
  8. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) While everyone expects Contreras to be traded, his value is next to nothing. And even then, the sox would have to pony up some cash to unload him. Or the sox will have to trade bad contracts [which may not be a bad idea--say Jack Wilson and Pittsburgh]. I guess one of the teams in playoff contention may take a flier on Jose, provided he has a few decent starts before the 31st. If not, teams will think he's hurt and will stay away from him. I'd expect Jose to see some time on the DL if he gets lit up after the ASB. If Jose gets some time off, and has a 2nd half ala Freddy in 2006, then trade him in the offseason. But as of now, he likely won't be going anywhere. I really don't care if we get anything back for him. Hopefully, Kenny can convince the Mets to take that contract (or a large portion of it).
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) I'm still surprised Mark accepted such a cheap deal. It'll be fun having a class act like Buehrle around as the face of the franchise for the next 4+ years. Kudos to Kenny Williams. Now get a ridiculous package in return for Garland and I'll be ecstatic. I'm wondering if we can afford to have such a high paid starting rotation, and still keep the payroll around $100 million. Buerhle is at $14 million a season, Vazquez around $13 million, and then Garland's possible future contract. Contreras needs to go, and even then I'm still not sure that Kenny Williams would want to have $40-$50 million in the pitching staff, especially with so many holes on the field. I kind of expect to have at least 2 pitchers in the rotation (Denks and Floyd/Gonzalez/Masset) to keep the price of the rotation reasonable. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) I doubt he'll be willing to sign a deal in the White Sox price Range. I can't see him taking a discount similar to the one Buehrle took and I can't see the Sox agreeing to a 5 year $70M+ deal like he'll be looking for. So, do we look to trade Contreras AND Garland before the trade deadline ? I really hope they are able to work out something with Garland, but I'm not optimistic of him accepting a 3 or 4 year deal.
  10. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Take that, all you whiners and know-it-alls who were calling for KW's head over a bunch of unsubstantiated reports from unnamed sources. Maybe you'll learn your lesson and give KW the benefit of the doubt next time until anything official is announced. Actually Kenny admitted that the rumors (no trade clause issue) was a problem. Maybe you should read the news before you call out other people. This is great news, and I'm happy.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) agreed! I think he is all but guarateed to be traded. I don't see Williams looking to collect draft picks as much as he will try to retool the team for next season. I think if they trade Buerhle, they won't compete, but I think Williams has a different vision.
  12. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) I would go so far as to suggest that it is an embarassment to White Sox fans. I don't disagree. It's one thing if the White Sox and Buerhle can't agree on a dollar amount/length of contract, but to a trade happen because he wants to stay is absurd.
  13. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Of course talks are dead, one side is waiting to budge on the NTC deal. What else is too discuss until one side gives in? Hopefully, Reinsdorf gets off his ridiculous position, and get something done because this is plain stupid.
  14. Bruce Levine is reporting today that the talks are dead. If true, he only has a few more days/weeks here.
  15. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) No he is not out of options. They already optioned him once this year which means he had at least one left. He can be called up and sent down at any point this year. The option is good for the whole season. Don't mean to question you, but I didn't think the option was for the season, I think it's the number of times a player can be sent back to the minors. Can this be confirmed by someone ?
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) When Mac was sent back down he was feeling fine, but they sent him down cause he's lost a lot of confidence. He still has had the stuff but I have noticed he hasn't been used as much as of late so maybe his shoulder is a bit sore to the point that he can't pitch on a consistent basis. I'd rather make sure Mac is healthy because i still feel he could be a very valuable piece via trade (if he comes off the DL and throws a couple good games he could get the Sox a nice piece) or a key part to the pen next year (yes I still would count on him next season). Isn't he out of options ? Maybe they are just sick of his act, and want to make sure everything looks good with his arm/shoulder.
  17. As much as I would be ok with a rotation set up for the next few years with 1) Buerhle 2) Garland 3) Vazquez 4) Denks 5) Floyd/Gonzalez....I doubt it will happen. I think Kenny will be hardpressed to keep the overall team strong if so much of the payroll is taken by 3 players, but, on the other hand, starting pitching is what will keep this team strong, and help it rebound provided that other holes are filled.
  18. This thread should be closed. The 2007 White Sox STINK.
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) I really don't see what there is to dislike about Geoff Jenkins so much? Please enlighten me. I don't have a big problem with Jenkins - he does play good defense, and he'll hit about 25 HR, and 90 RBI, but he will K a lot...My point about Jenkins is more about the White Sox philosophy towards free agents - I don't see them signing the Grade A free agents, but instead they will look for solid players who maybe they can get at a reasonable price. I think Jenkins has a chance to fall into that category given all of the attention that will be paid to the CF's this off-season.
  20. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) Oh, I would take it far. Not as far as the Marlins, but pretty far. I dreamt something up like this a couple days ago (I'll work out the trades on another day). CF, Jacoby Ellsbury SS, Yunel Escobar DH, Jim Thome 1B, Paul Konerko RF, Geoff Jenkins C, Jarrod Saltalamacchia 3B, Josh Fields LF, Ryan Sweeney 2B, Danny Richar As much I really don't want Geoff Jenkins, he'd be the kind of signing I'd expect from the White Sox - someone not that expensive, but who is a veteran, and maybe a change of scenary helps.
  21. Great!!! Now we're, what, 8 games under .500 ???? Whoopeee!!!!
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Yes but it could be very misleading. Take all the hate with Contreras. Take away his first and last start. Say they are not relevant and his ERA is 3.97. Not bad. As bad as Contreras has been this season, his ERA is almost identical to Vazquez's last season, and a lot of people say Vazquez is paid perfectly. He makes more than Contreras, so Jose must be a bargain even when he's bad. I know what you are saying, but I think a similar argument is the one where, "besides the grand slam that was hit against him, he pitched a pretty good game"
  23. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) After winning the WS, I think that Kenny envisioned a 2-3 year window to repeat with the same core players. I think that he's anticipating major turnover between next year and '09, with Garland being part of that turnover. I think Kenny will look to make moves that keep the team competitive, but I don't see how a patchwork team can beat the Indians or Tigers.Too many holes, and although I think keeping Garland is the way too go - starting pitching is the key to any good team - I think the White Sox will look to get 2 or 3 major league ready players this off-season for Garland, especially if they think they won't be able to sign him.
  24. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) Than Mark? I'm not sure I'd say that. They're not going to extend both of these guys - that'd be at least $110 million in guaranteed money. I still think they will resign Buerhle, but it needs to get done soon else Kenny will have to look at those trades out there. As for Garland, I hope they look to resign him. Yes, that will be expensive, but we do have Denks and Gavin Floyd filling out the rotation next season because they need to move Contreras' contract. I'd like to see next season be: 1) Buerhle 2) Garland 3) Vazquez 4) Denks 5) Floyd/Gonzalez Is it realistic to expect the White Sox to sign both Garland and Buerhle ? Probably not, especially with Kenny so in love with all his acquired pitchers, in particular, Floyd and Gonzalez, who both could be ready for next season's rotation, and moving Garland during the off-season could bring a nice player or two to fill in holes in the OF/SS/2B and bullpen.
  25. Kenny may not want to say so, but this is a rebuilding project. We may need a whole new OF...I'm assuming it will be 2 open spots as they will probably let Sweeney battle with Owens/Anderson for one spot. We need a new SS/2B - we traded for the Arizona IF so he may grab one spot, and we still have Cintron, but I'm not sure he's anything but a backup. I expect Contreras to be traded, and hopefully Buerhle signed, but Floyd can grab the 5th spot in the rotation. Kenny needs to add at least dependable setup man, and probably two more. So, I'm seeing Kenny looking to go outside the organiazation for at least one new reliever, one middle infielder, and 2 OF spots. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed? You can't handle the truth.
