  1. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) I don't know any more than you do, but my perception is that they because they made it to the WS last year, and want to win it this year, they want to go with someone who is proven and not take a gamble with the kid.The odd thing is he played in 109 games in 2005, batted .299 (OBP .360), then played in 115 games in 2006, batted .273 (OBP .340, .806 OPS). Casey on the other hand, batted .245 with the Tigers in 2006 with a .286 OBP (.650 OPS). All numbers were worse than Shelton's. Then Shelton had a better spring and ended up in AAA. Now he is playing solid in AAA while Casey is batting worse than almost every hitter in the AL, yet he still plays. Just kind of odd. Somehow I think it has to do with Leyland.

    He just yielded 6 runs in 7 innings to the Yanks, and has now let up 11 runs in his last 19 innings pitched (+5.00 ERA). He still has a solid WHIP and K/BB ratio, but I wonder if teams will start to figure him out later this year. If that is the case, how high will his 4.00 ERA get? So is this guy worth the money Boston paid, is he a lock for ROY, or is he just going to end up as a solid #2 pitcher? His K numbers look encouraging, but could that be to the lack of familiarity from the batters?
  3. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Ok, I gotcha. Yahoo didn't have it updated in the player profile but had it updated in the box score. Even so, his OBP in the leadoff spot is .292. That is garbage What numbers are wrong in using to evaluate Erstad? I see it with my own eyes. All he does is ground out, infield single, strike out, and pop out. What I mean is majority of the team is sucking right now. If you were to use numbers alone, then Konerko, Dye, AJ, and Crede would be riding the pine too. He did just hit .333 in this series, so we will see. I am just giving him, like the rest of the guys a few more weeks before using the numbers as a larger discriminant. Also, his OBP would be .304 after today (7-23) not .292, still not acceptable for a leadoff hitter, but better than most of the team right now.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:53 PM) If Ozzie refuses to play him, he has to be sent down. You have to agree he needs consistent atbats. I don't know what value he has on this roster. Ozzie is not using him in CF, and with Ozuna and Mackowiak (and Pods), there are very few opportunities for Anderson. I would rather use Terrero in that role and give Anderson regular AB's and playing time in CF in AAA. This would also save his service time, because they are not being very efficient with it right now. If they are thinking about trading him, they are doing absolutely nothing for his value either.
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Where are you getting .273 from? This year his line from the #1 spot: .176/.222/.176 Career #1 spot (spiked with 2000): .298/.353/.454 .273 is 6 for 22. The .176 was for his 3 for 17 before his 3 for 5 today in that position. With the way everyone else is batting this season, it is hard to evaluate Erstad based on numbers alone.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxgirl0838 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) alot of people have been laying the blame on konerko today. although i can see where they are coming from, it takes a whole team to lose, not just one person.Here ya go: Blame Breakdown Konerko - 40% (0-6, 3K, 8 LOB, Rally killing GIDP) Aardsma - 25% (1.0, 2 ER, BS) Ozuna - 20% (0-5, 2K, 4 LOB) Logan - 8% (0.0 IP, 1H, 1BB) Dye - 4% (2-6, 2K, 4 LOB) Masset - 3% (2.1 IP, 1ER)
  7. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) yea, i'll take this 2 outta 3 in detroit there is an amazing amount of whining here. i really don't get it. Yeah, 2 out of 3 is nice, especially on the road. I guess it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth when you have a game slip away (similar to the OAK series), but the Sox did steal one in Game 2. I don't blame the bullpen completely, they had done such a great job for a long stretch, they were bound to let up some runs. The problem is that it should never have been that close. 22 LOB (PK-8, Dye-4, Ozuna-4). Gooch should have been playing 2nd, then have Ozuna there tomorrow vs Meche. PK seriously needs a day or ten off. Konerko's ABs have been horrible, it seems like he is striking out or hitting into a rally killing DP.
  8. Until Konerko and AJ start batting above .200, I am going to withhold my judgment on Erstad. Erstad is batting .273 when leading off, so he may be best in that position if he can keep it up and get on base around a 1/3 of the time. He looked much better this series and it seems like the Sox are holding onto BA until they feel completely comfortable with Erstad. I figure once Pods gets back, they will send BA down and keep the extra pitcher (so Ozzie can use 5 pitchers per game).
  9. So what's up with this guy? He tears up April in 2006, then falls off the face of the earth when the Tigers sign Sean Casey. Now what is hilarious is that Shelton is a lifetime .280 hitter with very similar power numbers compared to Casey, but for some reason they like Casey over Shelton. Why would Detroit keep Casey when Shelton is a cheaper alternative? Casey is batting .180 this season with 0 HRs and 1 RBI, while Shelton is batting .302, 1 HR, and 8 RBI in AAA. Is there something about Shelton that I am missing? I know he struggled later in 2006, which made them make the move for Casey, but it looked like he was back in the groove in Spring Training when Shelton batted .388 with 2 HRs compared to Casey at .278 and 0 HRs. Even though the positions are different, this reminds me of the whole Anderson/Erstad situation, except Shelton had shown a pretty high ceiling.
  10. F@#k! PK and Ozuna combine for a billion outs. Where the hell was Gooch? Should not have came down to the Logan in the 12th. Send BA down, get someone that can hit.
  11. Hey, at least he didn't leave anyone on base. Baby steps.....
  12. There is no reason for him to be on the roster. Bring up Terrero or sign Perez.
  13. QUOTE(soxfansince04 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Between AJ's bunt and BA's AB that was one of the lousiest innings of baseball I can think of in a while. That just hurt to watch. I guess you missed all of Konerko's ABs.
  14. TB 3, CLE 2 (8th Inning) KC 3, MIN 1 (7th Inning)
  15. QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) that run last inning was so f***ing huge to get. Yeah, having 19 LOB eventually comes back to bite you.
  16. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Its amazing there were doubts Aardsma was even going to make this team out of ST and now he is one of the best we have... How about one of the best in the league.
  17. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) PK needs a week or 2 off from playingFixed.
  18. Erstad is intimidating...
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Who do we have available in the pen? Thornton is the only guy who didn't go yesterday. No need, Jon is going the distance. Also, Logan and Aardsma only faced one batter each.
  20. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Seeing us comeback seems so promising right now. Yeah, they have been coming from behind and winning, which is great to see.
  21. QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) Nice spot for some power Joe! Can you say, this team is on a roll, with strong pitching and clutch hitting. After 16 LOB, they were bound to get a clutch hit. Crede was due. Nice to see. Hopefully this gets him started.
  22. h0ly 5h!t, Dye working the count, then getting a hit. What a concept.
