QUOTE(salty99 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) FYI: The bat with the players signatures is now sold out according to the website. THe one with the celebration wrapped around the barrel is still available. I knew I should have waited before getting that license holder from JC PENNY! (I shop at the same one you do Steff) They are going to make more bats.. (gut feeling). LOL.. Small world salty. -

My thoughts on the TO fiasco... The question is, what is his purpose? He fights with and insults his teammates, pisses off his coach, alienates the entire organization, and probably costs HIMSELF a chance at another Super Bowl. All this to prove Donovan McNabb is less talented than himself? All this to leverage a larger contract? Or is this to go elsewhere, somewhere warmer and with fans more willing to glamorize this pompous fool? This is deja vu from his days in the bay. TO is supremely talented and conditioned. However, so was Jerry Rice. Notice the difference between the two? Rice has rings, records, and respect. He also has plenty of money. He's a legend. TO is swiftly becoming the Mike Tyson of football. Who is worthy of TO's services? Who will he give his A game to, one where performance, humilty, and concentration on the field win out over ego, self-importance, and calamity? I used to think a player of his telents was worth the trouble. However, this time, he cost a lot of people a chance at success. And the funny thing is, this is on the heels of praise for playing hurt in the Super Bowl. This in the midst of being the "difference maker" that finally put Philly over the top. While DM may not be as good as TO wants him to be, he's been pretty successful and he's shown plenty of toughness in playing through injuries. This situation will end with TO not being the solution, but a guy who made a problem worse. And no matter what can be said about Reid, McNabb, and anyone else in Philly, TO pro-actively throws people under the bus in an attempt to validate himself. Just once, I'd like to hear TO turn the eye on himself and tell the world his shortcomings. But, that will likely never happen. Leon loves Leon! Philly may fold and let him return as they need him, although this would be a bad move on a number of fronts. They more likely will pay him to stay home the rest of the year. They may try to trade him, but they will likely wait as long as possible to get the best offer, maybe til the end of the off-season. I see him landing in Atlanta, where the coach is as flaky as he is. Where they need a big name WR in the worst way, to prove Ron Mexico is a quality pocket QB. It's warm there and the fans might be willing to embrace him. But God help everyone involved when things go south, cause IMO, he will not hesitate to do this again. And, I doubt even Al Davis would take the chance on him after strike three! Comments...?

By RONALD BLUM, AP Baseball Writer Tue Nov 8,11:52 AM ET INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - With general managers gathered for their annual meetings, the commissioner's office announced Tuesday that Angel Stadium will be a second-round site for next year's inaugural World Baseball Classic — a tournament that could see some unusual roster decisions. Mike Piazza would be eligible to catch for Italy under eligibility rules being discussed by the commissioner's office and the players' association. The sport is considering adopting rules that allow the most latitude, a high-ranking baseball official said Monday. Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., will be used with Bithorn Stadium as a second-round site for the tournament, to be played from March 3-20, the commissioner's office said. The semifinals and final will be at San Diego's Petco Park, baseball and the union said in September. Chase Field in Phoenix (formerly Bank One Ballpark) and Scottsdale Stadium will join the Tokyo Dome, Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Atlanta Braves' spring training ballpark in Kissimmee, Fla., as first-round sites, a baseball official also said. A formal announcement of the Arizona sites is upcoming. For soccer's World Cup, players must be a citizen of a country and hold a passport for that country to participate. Rather than let each nation's eligibility rules be the determinant, baseball will likely apply the broadest rules of any participating country to all teams in the 16-nation event. Under these rules, players born in the Dominican Republic who are United States citizens still would be eligible to be on the Dominican team. These rules probably will lower the quality of the U.S. team and boost the depth of other nations in the tournament. While rules have not been finalized, among the ways players could be eligible for a team would be if they hold a passport, were born in the country, have a parent who was born in that country or they had residency in that country. "The union told us they determined that Mike could play for the Italian team," said Piazza's agent, Dan Lozano. He was unsure of the specific reason why Piazza, who was born in Norristown, Pa., was eligible. Baseball hopes to announce at the winter meetings in December commitments from players to participate. "Eligibility rules are still being discussed. It will be similar to the IBAF rules," said Paul Archey, senior vice president of Major League Baseball International, referring to the International Baseball Federation. Gene Orza, the union's chief operating officer, was traveling Monday and did not return a telephone call seeking comment. With seven teams changing their top baseball operations people since August, many clubs were still formulating their offseason plans heading into the five-day session. Agent Scott Boras predicted that will lead to a slow market for free-agent signings. "With so many new GMs, there's a belief that with many clubs there have been philosophical changes that may free up players who were previously unattainable," he said. The free-agent class is not very strong or deep, also likely to slow the market. "I think teams are going to look at trades first, if possible, before they dive into the free-agent market," New York Mets GM Omar Minaya said. With Boston still seeking a replacement for Theo Epstein, GMs aren't sure whether the Red Sox will be trying to trade Manny Ramirez. New Phillies GM Pat Gillick said Philadelphia is not thinking of trading oft-injured first baseman Jim Thome, another top hitter some teams might want. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman plans to meet Wednesday night with Arn Tellem, the agent for Hideki Matsui. The outfielder's contract says he must be re-signed by Nov. 15 or he'll be released. Also, Tampa Bay plans to interview manager candidates this week: Los Angeles Angels bench coach Joe Maddon on Tuesday and Devil Rays bench coach John McLaren on Wednesday. The third finalist, former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine, will be interviewed by telephone. The Los Angeles Dodgers, who like the Red Sox are without a general manager, sent a delegation headed by assistant GM Kim Ng. Boston, which sent four officials, said it will interview Washington Nationals general manager Jim Bowden and former Baltimore Orioles executive vice president Jim Beattie as potential replacements for Epstein. The Red Sox also received permission to interview two other individuals but did not identify them.

Owens Apologizes and Wants to Come Back By ROB MAADDI, AP Sports Writer 1 minute ago PHILADELPHIA - Terrell Owens has apologized to Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, quarterback Donovan McNabb, the team's owner, the team's president and fans. He read the statement outside his house in Moorestown, N.J., a day after the team said he would not return this season. "I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alientated a lot of my fans and my teammates," he said. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Owens was making a public apology in hopes of returning to the Eagles this year. Owens' brief — but tumultuous — time in Philadelphia ended Monday when the All-Pro wide receiver was told not to return to the team this season. "This decision is a result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time, during which Terrell had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said. Owens was suspended for Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games without pay. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate him for the rest of the season. Though he's perhaps the best wideout in the NFL, Owens caused far too many distractions with his selfish behavior. "We gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome," Reid said. Owens was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback instead of McNabb. Owens also was involved in a fight last week with former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas, who remains with the team as its "ambassador." Owens apologized for his comments about the organization in a brief statement Friday, but didn't apologize to McNabb or the team. "The league has been notified by the players' union that they will be grieving our right to take that action," Reid said, "therefore there is nothing more that I can say at this point." Owens summoned police to his house late Monday because there were some people on his property. He said he wanted to be left alone, had no comment and would contact the news media when he did want to speak, police at the scene said. Later, two pizzas were delivered to Owens' home. Someone answered the door — not Owens — and gave deliveryman James McDevitt a $5 tip. McDevitt said he left the tip on the door step. Owens' relationship with the Eagles took a drastic turn after he fired longtime agent David Joseph, hired Rosenhaus and demanded a new contract just one season into the seven-year, $48.97 million deal he signed when he came to Philadelphia in March 2004. Owens is scheduled to earn $3.25 million this season, meaning the four-game suspension would cost him almost $800,000. The Eagles will have to pay Owens nearly $1 million to stay home the final five games. They could've simply released him already, but they didn't want his signing bonus to affect the salary cap or allow him to go to another team. Owens will either be traded or cut after the season. He's due to receive a $5 million roster bonus in March 2006, so the Eagles will decide his fate before then. Owens made more than $9 million last season, when he helped lead Philadelphia to the Super Bowl. Two years ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided they'd had enough of Keyshawn Johnson and made a similar move. After Johnson criticized coach Jon Gruden, the Super Bowl champion Bucs deactivated the star receiver and sent him home for the final six games with pay. The Eagles are 4-4 this season. And McNabb, who feuded with Owens throughout the summer and has been a constant target of his criticism, finally took a stand in the matter, saying the team might be "better off" without Owens. "Obviously it is tough losing a guy of his caliber, his ability, but I think we might be better off," McNabb said after throwing an interception that sealed the loss to Washington. "We're 4-4. We're not 1-7. I think that's the way to look at it. For the guys in the locker room, we win together and we lose together," he said. Asked to elaborate on how the team could be better off without its top receiver, McNabb emphasized the remaining players are united with the same goal of winning. Rookie Reggie Brown filled in for Owens against Washington and caught five passes for 94 yards, including a 56-yard TD reception. But the Eagles' offense continued to struggle and couldn't score the tying touchdown with three shots from the Redskins 7 in the final minutes. The Eagles were 17-5 with Owens, including a 24-21 loss to New England in the Super Bowl. In that game, Owens had nine catches for 122 yards after defying his doctor's advice and playing 6 1/2 weeks after ankle surgery. They're 2-1 without him in games that matter, winning twice in the NFC playoffs. This was the second time Owens has been suspended during his controversial 10-year career. In 2000, he was suspended one game by San Francisco coach Steve Mariucci following his infamous touchdown celebrations on the Dallas Cowboys' star logo at the center of Texas Stadium. Owens clashed with management this summer and earned a one-week exile from training camp after a heated dispute with Reid that followed a shouting match with offensive coordinator Brad Childress. Owens forced a trade to the Eagles last year after eight seasons with the 49ers and invigorated the offense with his superior skills. He had 77 catches for 1,200 yards and 14 TDs in 14 games. Soon after Philadelphia lost to the Patriots, Owens took his first shot at McNabb, suggesting the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback was tired in the fourth quarter of the loss. McNabb responded harshly and the two didn't speak for a prolonged period in training camp. They eventually reconciled their relationship and performed well together on the field — Owens has 47 catches for 763 yards and six TDs this season. However, Owens continued to throw verbal jabs at McNabb.

Two Carolina Cheerleaders Arrested

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) I was thinking the same thing Los. The girls got doped up and got pissed when they were asked to leave. I guess it would be better to be called a Lesbian than it would to be called a cokehead. I guess it depends on which news source you read.. Cheerleaders Had Sex in Bar, Witnesses Say Mon Nov 7, 9:30 PM ET TAMPA, Fla. - Two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders were charged after their arrest at a bar where witnesses told police the women had sex in a restroom. Renee Thomas, 20, of Pittsboro, N.C., and Angela Keathley, 26, of Belmont, N.C., were taken to Hillsborough County Jail early Sunday. Witnesses said the women were having sex in a stall with each other, angering patrons waiting in line to get into the restroom at the club in the Channelside district. Thomas was charged with battery Sunday after allegedly striking a bar patron when she was leaving the restroom, then landed in even more trouble after police said she gave officers a driver's license belonging to another Panthers cheerleader who was not in Tampa. Thomas, who made the trip to Florida for Sunday's game between the Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was released from jail on $500 bail before police learned she was not the person she claimed to be. Providing police with a false name is a misdemeanor. However, Thomas was charged Monday with giving a false name and causing harm to another — a third-degree felony punishable by probation or a jail term of 1 to 5 years, said police spokeswoman Laura McElroy. Meanwhile, detectives are trying to determine how Thomas gained possession of the driver's license of the third cheerleader. Keathley, charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, was released on $750 bail about an hour before the Panthers played the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. The cheerleaders were not in town to perform at the game. -
I didn't even realize this was given to the jury (last Friday). Frankly.. I don't see how they can find him responsible. Unlike the OJ case.. there was absolutely positively nothing tying him to her murder. And the "stuntmen" accusations have been shot down. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/mld/sanluisobispo/13107006.htm Jury has Blake testimony read back, retires without verdict Associated Press BURBANK, Calif. - The jury deliberating in a wrongful death lawsuit against "Baretta" star Robert Blake spent several hours Monday listening to a readback of Blake's trial testimony, then retired for the night without reaching a verdict on whether Blake is liable for the death of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. The nine-man, three-woman jury, which heard two months of testimony, spent its first full day in deliberations since receiving the case Friday. Jurors asked to hear again some of Blake's eight days of testimony. They also asked to examine a box of clothing, some of it taken from Blake's home after his wife was slain. Blake, 72, was acquitted of murder in March after a criminal trial, but the lawsuit brought on behalf of Bakley's four children seeks to hold him civilly responsible and to win monetary damages. Verdicts in civil cases require agreement by nine of the 12 jurors rather than a unanimous decision. Blake married Bakley in 2000 after tests showed that he was the father of her baby, Rosie. On May 4, 2001, Bakley was found fatally shot in Blake's car parked on a street near Vitello's restaurant where the couple had dined. Blake said he left his wife in the car outside while he returned to the eatery to retrieve a gun he left on the seat of their booth. When he came back to the car, he said, Bakley had been shot. Much of the evidence in the civil trial was a replay of the criminal case except for Blake's testimony, which was new. He did not testify in criminal court. Plaintiffs attorney Eric Dubin claimed Blake tried to hire two former Hollywood stuntmen to kill his wife and when that failed Blake killed her himself. A similar theory in the criminal case failed for a lack of physical evidence or credible witnesses. In the civil trial, Blake testified he did not kill Bakley and wanted to make a life with her and their daughter. Defense attorney Peter Ezzell offered jurors alternative theories on others who might have killed Bakley, a woman with a past that included scamming men for money with nude pictures of herself and promises of sex.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) I wish that Mancow would just vanish or move to satellite. Stern gets me through the mornings as well. But I just can't justify buying Sirius just for him. There's always his TV show. I was just a little kid in the 80's, so I don't remember Jonny B, too much. Guess there's never a better time than now to start listening. It's gone. They stopped taping months ago and no new episodes have aired in at least a month. E!'s contract to air is it up, IIRC, in December.
