  4. Judge..?? What judge..? And I'm not going to assume anything other than what I read.. and what I read is that the Gov doesn't think that possibily saving the life of an innocent person is "grounds" to give him a stay. As I said... asshole.
  5. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/bro...la-news-broward Lionel Tate charged with armed robbery of pizza delivery man By Akilah Johnson Staff Writer Posted May 23 2005, 11:24 PM EDT Lionel Tate, the youngest American sentenced to life in prison before he was released last year, has been arrested again -- this time in connection with the armed robbery of a pizza delivery man. Tate, 18, allegedly ordered four Domino's pizzas from a Pembroke Park apartment Monday, and when the delivery man arrived, Tate "greeted him with a gun," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Elizabeth Calzadilla-Fiallo. The delivery man returned to the restaurant and called police. Officers later arrested Tate in the area, Calzadilla-Fiallo said. It is the second time Tate has been arrested since he was released from prison early last year. Under terms of his most recent probation, he could be sent back to prison to serve a life sentence. Tate drew national and international attention in 2001 when he became the youngest American ever sentenced to life. He was convicted of the 1999 murder of 6-year-old playmate Tiffany Eunick. Tate was 12 at the time of the girl's death, and his attorneys argued he was imitating professional wrestling moves when he accidentally killed her. The jury, however, thought the girl's injuries were too severe to be caused by an accident, and sentenced Tate to life without the possibility of parole. High-profile attorneys and grass-roots community groups took up the boy's cause, appealing to the governor, the pope and the United Nations. Tate's conviction and sentence were overturned and he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, and in January 2004, he was released from prison. Then, in September, Tate was arrested and charged with violating conditions of his house arrest when he was caught walking near his Pembroke Park home at 2 a.m. just before Hurricane Frances struck. As punishment, he was sentenced to an additional five years probation -- bringing the total to 15 years probation, 1,000 hours of community service, a strict curfew and random drug tests. On Monday Tate was charged with armed robbery and armed burglary with battery. He showed up at a 13-year-old acquaintance's apartment in the 3800 block of Southwest 52nd Avenue just before 4 p.m. and asked to use the phone, Calzadilla-Fiallo said. "The only reason he was at the apartment was to use the kid's phone," she said. "He placed the [pizza] order and took off." But Tate didn't go far. He waited downstairs until he saw Walter Ernesto Gallard show up with the four pizzas. As soon as Tate saw Gallard, he ran back upstairs but the teen wouldn't let him inside, Calzadilla-Fiallo. Tate forced his way inside, beat up the 13-year-old and pointed a gun at Gallard when he knocked, she said. Gallard dropped the pizzas, tumbled down the stairs and went back to the restaurant and called police. Gallard returned to the apartment complex with deputies, saw Tate in the area and identified him as the robber. Calzadilla-Fiallo said no gun was recovered.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 24, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) All I'm saying is, it gave the judge all he needed. No it didn't.. The judge didn't even use that as his excuse for denial. "Daniels said he found "no grounds to second guess years of court rulings or to reject the recommendation of the parole board."
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 24, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Did you guys read the part about her doctors advising against him donating?.....saying she'd be better suited to go the conventional route and waiting for a complete liver. Standard advice in any organ donation. My grandmother needed a kidney.. her doctors gave us all the same song and dance. My aunt was a match.. my grama got her kidney.
  8. Daniels said he found "no grounds to second guess years of court rulings or to reject the recommendation of the parole board." What an asshole.
  9. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/people_hilton Parental Group Says Hilton Ad Too Hot Tue May 24, 8:56 AM ET LOS ANGELES - A Carl's Jr. commercial starring a scantily clad Paris Hilton frolicking with a water hose is too hot for a media watchdog group. ADVERTISEMENT "This commercial is basically soft-core porn," said Melissa Caldwell, research director for the Los Angeles-based Parents Television Council. "It's inappropriate for television." The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that the group plans to mobilize its more than 1 million members to protest and is considering asking the Federal Communications Commission to declare the ad indecent. The commercial shows the hotel heiress and reality TV star vamping in a revealing swimsuit as she soaps and rinses a black Bentley. She also takes a bite out of a Carl's Jr. hamburger. The commercial for the jalapeno-laden "Spicy BBQ Six-Dollar Burger" ends with Hilton's signature tag line, "that's hot." "Paris was chosen to star in the ad because she is an intriguing cultural icon and the 'it girl' of the moment," Brad Haley, marketing chief for Carl's Jr., said in a statement issued before the commercial began airing last week. "She fascinates Carl's Jr.'s most loyal customers, 'young, hungry guys,' as well as 'young, hungry gals,'" Haley said. The company is known for its racy television ads, one of which featured a woman eating a burger while riding a mechanical bull. Another starred Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner and several playmates. :rolly

  12. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7922988/ Sex-offender data going national on Web Justice Department will work with 48 statesThe Associated Press Updated: 5:28 p.m. ET May 20, 2005WASHINGTON - State-by-state information on sex offenders will be available on a new Internet site run by the federal government. Participation by states is voluntary. The Justice Department said it hoped to have the site up and running within two months. The announcement by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Friday coincided with National Missing Children’s Day. The site won’t provide any information not already made available on the Internet by 49 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. But it will be designed to allow someone to do a national search online to determine whether an individual who has been convicted in one state has moved to another. Privacy advocates wary “With this technology, every citizen and law enforcement officer will be able to search the latest information for the identity and location of known sex offenders,” Gonzales said in a speech at the National Press Club. Privacy advocates have been wary of publishing the names of people who already have served their sentence. But several recent high-profile abductions and killings, including the case of nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford of Florida, have led to calls for widened access to the information. “It is absolutely critical that we do better in tracking convicted sex offenders, and establishing a publicly available national database is a key part of that effort,” said Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. Dorgan introduced legislation to create a national database after authorities arrested a sex offender from Minnesota for the murder of a woman just across the state line in North Dakota. The man would not have been identified on North Dakota’s registry, Dorgan said. Oregon an exception Every state but Oregon publishes the names, photos and backgrounds of at least some people convicted of a variety of sex crimes, particularly those involving children. But different rules apply as to what information can be accessed. In Florida, for example, state officials this week expanded the area that residents can check, up to a five-mile radius from their home or school. For years, the search could only encompass the same zip code. The change followed the killing of Lunsford. John Couey, the man authorities say has confessed to the crime, is a registered sex offender who was living 150 yards from Lunsford’s home in Homosassa, Fla. In his speech and a question-and-answer session that followed, Gonzales: Called for a vote on all of President Bush’s judicial nominees, dismissing a possible compromise to avert a showdown over Senate rules. Urged Congress to give the FBI the power to subpoena records in terrorism investigations without the approval of a judge or jury, saying the bureau already has that power in many criminal matters. “If you can use administrative subpoenas to go after bad doctors, why can’t you use them to go after terrorists?” he said. Said that requests for documents under the federal Freedom of Information Act “shouldn’t be such a burden on agencies,” but didn’t take a position on legislation that would tighten FOIA compliance deadlines and levy fines on agencies that miss deadlines.
  13. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/m...politan/3193269 Associated Press DALLAS — A 33-year-old man was charged with capital murder today in the death of an 11-year-old girl who failed to return home from a sleep-over at a friend's house. Kaitlyn Briana Smith was strangled and beaten, according to the Dallas County medical examiner. Her body was found Saturday under a vacant trailer in the same mobile home park where she lived with her family. Police today arrested Steven Lynn Long, who was a houseguest of the family that Kaitlyn visited Friday night. Police said Kaitlyn was killed inside the house before the body was hidden under a nearby abandoned trailer. Police said the crime appeared to be sexually motivated. Long's bond was set at $500,000. Police said he also faced misdemeanor charges in Dallas, Rockwall and Plano. For her family and the community. For those that live in Texas.. any word on the DP for this guy?

  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Can't plane tickets are purchased and I'm doing training for my internship just before I fly out. Than when I get back that Monday I start. Wish I could though. Maybe in August? I plan on coming out for that Twinkie series. So tailgate on that Friday? August we can do.. and it's better for him also I think. I'll take care of that. Tailgating is fine as long as it doesn't mean full grill detail.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) Those were good times...are you gonna be at any of the Dodger series. I think Boz mentioned you'd be out of town? I'm gonna be here on Friday then I leave Saturday morning for a few days. Can you guys come in on Thursday...? I might be able to swing a card game if you can. He wants to play bad...
  17. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) His english is a good point, I don't remember who it was but some Sox player was quoted as saying something like, "Yeah, we never know what the hell Juany's saying" He's never around in the tunnel and never comes to the bars on road trips.. I just assumed it was because he doesn't understand so well and can't keep up with the conversation.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) And I say MVP Willie Oh.. he got is due on Saturday. Jim and him talked.. don't know what he said to him as I was talking to Jr (who specifically said hi to you and Mario and Mike and Alex - BTW). But little MVP walked away with a smile from ear to ear.. :puke :rolly
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) Just watch...this will be exactly what was in Juan's mind and everything will be for not. I 've never seen a guy fake a ball being foul but when you watch Juan in the infield he always has his hands like that when he's getting ready to recieve a ball as the cutoff man. I've often times seen him do that to deek a guy too, just like every other middle infielder does. Of course it will.... I said it.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) That's what I saw, I was wondering what Lee was doing. Uribe's English is supposedly very poor. I don't know if he can say foul. Did he actually say something to Lee, which I find hard to believe that Lee would be able to hear him and understand him, or did Lee go by Uribe holding up his hands. Good point.. I've never talked to Uribe, or heard him talk.. so I'm gonna ask.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Hell on a random sidenote. When I first saw the play I just assumed Juan had his arms up acting as if he was catching the ball. Not till I saw the thread had I thought he was signalling foul ball (and I know that having your hands up is also the sign for that...but its also about the same thing you do when your gonna deak a guy acting as if your about to receive a throw). Was I the only one who saw it this way as opposed to the other? Jim and I actually thought he was going to 2nd in case there was a play also. He looked like he didn't know what was up.
  22. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Dick Allen, As I said before. If Uribe thought it was foul, its neither deception nor a lie. He just made a mistake, and the Cubs listened to his mistaken belief. But no one who is arguing with me is taking the stand point that Uribe may have thought it was foul, they are arguing he knew it was fair, but that it was okay for him to say it was foul. SB I thought he said it was fair...??
  23. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Steff, As I said before, lieing is always deception, deception is not necessarily lieing. I know this is a hard concept for people to grasp, but the words themselves pretty much state the obvious. Lieing is the act of decieving, but deception is not the act of lieing. It is getting some one to believe something based on their own manifestations of what they think is occuring. When Uribe said the ball was fair, Lee did not come to to this conclusion because he misinterpreted the reality, he came to the conclusion because it is what Uribe told him. SB How do we even know he told him anything..? OK.. so just to be clear.. what (we assume) he did you think WAS deceptive..? Correct..??
  24. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 23, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Was that right about when he started plunking out hitters? It was after the end of the top of the 2nd. I was already giving him s*** from my seat about his rising pitch count.. he knew my voice for sure.
