  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) Shut the f*** up. None of you are Iowa State fans. Or Gopher fans (although I suppose we did beat ISU in basketball and do have a future to look forward to, SO THERE!)

    QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Lol, i think you are the only person on the planet who likes 28 weeks later. I wanted to enjoy the movie but my god it was so horribly bad. My brother (who I saw it with) enjoyed it as well. I also know other people that liked it. I wasn't looking for much, I just wanted some good zombie entertainment, which is what I got with a kickass soundtrack.
  3. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) Can someone point me to an example of where a player switch off a position to 1B, and performed well at 1B immediately? I know Konerko didn't. There must be some basis to your assumptions. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Because Moneyball references are always fun: Scott Hatteberg, Pickin' Machine. (basically, the skills needed to play first are pretty easy to pick up, especially for players who have already been playing baseball for most of their lives) I won't say it was immediately, but considering his veteran status in the league before even thinking about playing first base, I'd say it was a pretty quick turn around. (I also don't think I'd say he's played it 'well', probably closer to average would be more accurate)
  4. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) Why do people just assume you can stick any shmo over at 1B and they'll automatically be at least average defensively? There are skills needed to play there just like any other position. Fields has rarely ever played the position in his career. He's got enough defensive potential to stick at 3B, and shouldn't be moved to 1B unless we acquire a top 3B. Because Moneyball references are always fun: Scott Hatteberg, Pickin' Machine. (basically, the skills needed to play first are pretty easy to pick up, especially for players who have already been playing baseball for most of their lives)
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Exactly. Most people on here can't see what's being attempted. They are attempting to stay afloat in Chicago while they tear down and rebuild the minor league system. This may not win "championships" but it could keep them in the race until the minors can be built back up. I think starting this year we will have a much different approach at the draft. They started the new approach to the draft last year. I mean, people hated that we skipped out on Porcello, but compare last years draft to the previous years, and you'll see there was a huge difference.
  6. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) Big 10 may only get 3 teams in the tournament this year. And if they get 4, Minnesota might be that team. Tubby was a great hire, as a Wisconsin fan it hurts because Minnesota was becoming Wisconsin Jr. in terms of recruitment. To even go into MSU and give them a game shows just how far they have come in less than 1 season. It's great to hear this coming from a Wisconsin fan, but I've gotta warn you about thinking too highly of them this soon. The game against MSU was a good one, and we should have won it. We had plenty of opportunities late to put them away, but couldn't execute on offense. Still, it was great to see us be that competitive against the 6th ranked team on the road, especially considering our well known issues with playing on the road. But you can't start looking at them as one of the top 4 teams in the Big 10 after a loss. We still lost, and we've still looked really bad at times this year (especially on the road against UNLV and FSU). If the Gophers can come out and play like they did against MSU for the entirety of the Big 10 schedule, then yes, you'll be talking about them come tournament time. But I don't see it happening this year, we just aren't there yet.
  7. I'd like to thank Penn State for making me feel that much less scared of Illinois this year

    QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) How?? It was an effective zombie movie. It had zombies, great music, and was a fun movie to watch. I'll see it again relatively soon hopefully and will expand on this if you want, but I enjoyed it (also, let it be known, I'm a big Danny Boyle fan, and I did really enjoy the original; I just felt like I got more of what I wanted (zombies!) out of the second)

    QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 04:25 AM) Netflix update: Saw 28 weeks later tonight, hated it.........the original was twice as good. The plot lines in this movie make zero sense nd kept me going, "oh come on". Really? I saw 28 Weeks before seeing 28 Days, and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was done fantastically, and have been meaning to see it again but just haven't gotten around to it. I did enjoy it more than 28 Days Later though.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) I guess the new thing is put all your crazy opinions in your sig and make it annoyingly large. Seriesly, it is.
  11. MSU holds on 65-59, but the game was much closer than the final suggests. The Gophers held their own, which I suppose, is all I could ask for considering we were on the road in a hostile environment. Hopefully today's game will mean more Al Nolen and Lawrence McKenzie on the floor at the same time, as the Gophers seemed to have played their best when this was the case.
  12. 58-57 MSU with less than 4 minutes to go. Come on Gophers!!!
  13. Gophers are down 3 with 7:34 to go, 54-51. f*** you BTN, I want to watch this game.
  14. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) ESPN Insider is reporting this "HOT" rumor as well... For those interested.
  15. The Gophers are only down 7 to Michigan State at the half, 33-26. Really, I think they've done a good job holding their ground so far, but they're definitely going to have to shoot better than 29% if they plan on making some noise in the second half. All things considered though, to be down only 7 against Michigan State on the road, with the game being pretty close before a late first half run by MSU, is encouraging.
  16. This thread has turned from good dreams to hilarious in a very quick amount of time. Seriesly.
  17. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Dude. Excellent
  18. I've always been a fan of Joe McEwing for some odd reason.
  19. The Gophers got a commitment from MarQueis Gray today, 4-star quarterback that Rivals ranks as the second best dual-threat QB behind Terrelle Pryor. That's huge news, and gives us a QB of the future that fits perfectly into our new system
  20. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) Don't you mean to say, "Nick Swisher and that guy shouldn't even be in the same sentence. And by 'that guy', I mean Grady Sizemore"?
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) I don't think you've got those exaclty right either, not if you're talking about last year at least. There's no way that Willis had anything close to an ERA above the league average last year. The numbers he's looking at are for his career average, not last year specifically (I'm almost certain at least).
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) So, using T9 texting, just type the word "roids" into your phone. If your phone is as cool as mine, it's kinda funny. hilarious.
  23. QUOTE(scenario @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Here's an interesting comparison (2007 numbers) Player G A-B Hits 2B HR RBI BBs SOs AVG OBP SLG OPS One 162 628 174 34 24 78 101 155 .277 .390 .462 .852 Two 150 539 141 36 22 78 100 131 .262 .381 .455 .836 Player One = Grady Sizemore Player Two = Nick Swisher Yeah, but Grady Sizemore sucks because he strikes out a lot. Obviously.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) Nick Swisher is my favorite White Sox already. Sorry Mark. I agree with you there. I've always been a fan of Swisher, so seeing him here in Chicago is just great I think.
