  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) How is Iowa State a Scientology-based school that rivals Michigan? They aren't, it's just a small(er) school and small(er) religion, as opposed to the big ones. I realize she's a Michigan grad, but I don't think that really matters in relation to her comments about ND and Jesus. Also:
  2. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) The crowd at the roast booing her off the stage tells you how out of line it is. I see no forum where uttering such stupid and ignorant comments is very acceptable. Here's my question: If she says f*** Iowa State (sorry Heads ) and f*** Scientology, are we still having this conversation? Hell, does this even get reported? Probably not. If she said that, the biggest concern she'd have would be the Scientologists trying to kill her, but she'd still be going in to work every day as opposed to being suspended.
  3. f*** Notre Dame, f*** Touchdown Jesus, and f*** Jesus. I don't get what the big deal is, it's a roast. Plus, I don't disagree with anything she said, so what do I care?
  4. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) Just don't expect a damn thing from recruiting, and you should be ok. As I've said before, we've already got a top 25 recruiting class coming in next year (with the commitments coming after an abysmal 9-22 season last year), which includes the top Canadian recruit in Devoe Joesph and Ralph Sampson III. Recruiting at Minnesota is much easier than it is in Kentucky, and one of the biggest issues is seeing top Minnesota talent continuously go to border states (namely Wisconsin and Iowa, those bastards). With Tubby, Wisconsin and Iowa aren't going to be able to swoop in and grab everything that fancies them, and thats a big step in the direction of getting a more talented team here in Minnesota.
  5. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) He's no Tubby! You're talking to a Gopher student/fan. Won't hear me disagree
  6. QUOTE(gbuk @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) Man that was truly awesome. Gillispie is an insanely good coach. Yeah, he's been doing amazingly with Kentucky so far this year. I mean, look at really, it's not like they lost at home to San Diego or anything ridiculous like that.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) Ooooh I'm taking macro too -- want to study together fellas? Macro is a joke. Really, really easy I've got Microeconomics, Sociology, Personal and Community Health, Intro to Public Speaking, and the best of them all, Handball.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) Indiana's lost 7 of their last 10 in ther Barn, prior to last night. I think it was 8 of their last 10 (not like it matters) But yeah, I know you weren't trying to discard what the Gophers did last night. I don't get many opportunities to talk Gopher basketball with other people in this thread though (too much Illini bashing and Kansas hyping), so I figured I'd drag it out as long as I could
  9. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) Indiana's turn overs were not so much because of Minnesota fouling, but more because of the press that Minnesota was running which was causing Indiana to play to fast for themselves and make errant passes. Exactly. They threw the ball away by themselves at least 3 or 4 times due to the press and the hilarity that was Eric Gordon last night. Man, he sucked. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) We will see if he can recruit guys to Minnesota though in the future. We already have a top 25 recruiting class for next year (it's been ranked as high as 10th nationally), including some stud big men in Ralph Sampson III and Colton Iverson. Plus, the top recruit out of Canada in Devoe Joseph and other solid recruits (Paul Carter and Devron Bostick). All things considered, getting a recruiting class this good with a 9-22 record last year, I think the Big 10 has something to be worried about down the line. Minnesota talent isn't going to be heading over to Wisconsin or Iowa as easy as it did in the past. I can't imagine he'll have trouble recruiting in the future when this team is already on an upward swing, and is likely to be competing for the Big 10 title in a few years (not next year, the year after though). This following exert is from Paging Jim Shikenjanski, which is by far the best Gopher blog on the web. It gives a pretty good idea of the state of Minnesota basketball right now: This is just a part of his recap of last nights game, the whole thing is here and is a very good read.
  10. I dont disagree wsf101, there's no excuse for missing that many free throws, which is why I said in my post "I won't blame (the officials) for the loss." Also, you mention the drastic turnover difference, but that's exactly what the Gophers cause teams to do. Look at the numbers, they cause a high number of turnovers and do a decent job of holding onto the ball themselves. But anyway, the refs were terrible. Because my viewing was bias, I can't say whether Indiana got screwed or not, but I know Minnesota got raped on some terrible calls late in the game that did make a difference. I can't say that was why the Gophers lost, because chances are we would have missed the FTs anyway, but the refs were really terrible one way or the other. Despite shooting terribly from both the field and free throw line, and getting dominated on the boards, we were leading the 9th ranked team in the nation with 3 minutes to go. This is the difference Tubby Smith has made for this program, especially after we fell behind by double digits. He didn't let the team get distracted, and we came back out and gave everything we've got (except for Spencer Tollackson, who did well down the stretch but there's no excuse for missing every f***ing free throw he took). Still a good game, and a fun game to be at. I'm glad the Gophers showed up, and the Barn was the loudest it's been in my two years of going to games. We showed up 55 minutes early (doors open 60 minutes early) and had the worst seats I've ever gotten at a game, which is saying something about the increasing popularity of the basketball team on campus. Hell, the dorms aren't even open yet, and we were a packed house a good 30 minutes before game-time.
  11. The refs in the Minnesota/Indiana game were horrible, but I won't blame them for the loss. Our team didn't make any free throws anyway, so it didn't matter. Good game, Hoosier fans. You should feel really, really lucky that you got out of Minnesota with a win.
  12. Indiana vs Minnesota tonight at the Barn. I'm leaving for the game in 15 minutes or so, lets go Gophers!
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Paulus didn't punch anyone there, he stripped the ball and then proceeded to kick like a baby but he definitely didn't try to punch anyone. Looks to me like Reid hit Paulus a bit but nothing too major, he still threw a punch at him though. That's how it looked to me as well. I think that Reid was much more in the wrong than Paulus though.
  14. mmmm... Hormel chili with tabasco and beans. I'm a fan.
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) Wisonsin beat PSU @ PSU. Flowers was on fire, actually most of Wiscosnin was on fire. Important piece of information missing: Geary Claxton had an ACL injury 6 minutes in, and is out for the rest of the season. Penn State's season is over as well.
  16. 1. Indiana 2. Michigan State 3. Wisconsin 4. Minnesota 5. Purdue 6. Ohio State 7. Illinois 8. Penn State 9. Iowa 10. Michigan 11. Northwestern
  17. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Before you go ga-ga over Tubby and Minnesota consider the fact that their wins are: Army, Iowa St., Central Michigan, UC Riverside, North Dakota St, Colorado St., Santa Clara, Nicholls St., Kennesaw St., Northwestern, and Penn State. Pathetic. They haven't beaten one worthwhile opponent. Indiana by 20+...White is playing like an absolute animal lately. Ellis does everything. Gordon is Gordon. And the bench is very strong assuming Bassett is healthy enough to play. We are a very, very good team at home, so I don't think there is any way that Indiana wins by 20. That being said, I expect Indiana to win by at least 10. I like what the Gophers have done, and that win at PSU was huge (it's the type of game we wouldn't show up for last year, and we would have lost by 20+), but Indiana is a much better team than Penn State, and White is going to be very dangerous against the Gophers. Still, props to the Gophers for going on the road, getting down, and still coming through and pulling out a tough win. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) Minnesota wins. Id say Tubby Smith early favorite for Big 10 coach of the year. I know Bo Ryan could be a candidate, but unlike Seth Davis and other sports pundits, I felt Wisconsin would be competing for a Big 10 title to start the year so their record isnt a huge shock to me. Minnesota on the other hand would have been a bottom dweller, but Tubby has some magic going on. If the Gophers continue to play like they have been lately, I see no way he isn't Big 10 coach of the year. No one expected the Gophers to be good this year, and with 2 games down in the Big 10 schedule, and a successful non-conference run, they're looking like a pretty decent team. I still don't think they make the tournament, but we'll learn a lot more about this team with these next two games against Michigan State and Indiana.
  18. You're entitled to that opinion, but if you really feel that way, why go at all? It's like going to talk to a person you hate, knowing that you hate them already beforehand. It's just asking for trouble.
  19. QUOTE(The Beast @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) For those of you who are going to SoxFest. Anywho who asks some of those questions is wasting an opportunity to ask an actual question and pick the brain of some people with a ton of experience. The majority of those questions are just stupid.

  22. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) I figured the dog's name was Dick. In reply to the dog shooting a hunter in the face. I'm a sucker for Dick Cheney shotgun jokes
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) This is Clemens next step so he can't raise his right hand or put the left on the bible. And he could still pitch! It worked for Jim Abbott. (man, this is a horrible joke)
