You should not complain at all. I'm stuck with Baseball Tonight, giving me no coverage of the White Sox at all. Seriously, don't complain. Other have it worse

QUOTE(Young Gun @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Is this going to be the longest episode of Baseball Tonight or what? Yea, I'm sort of watching it, posting here, and working on a project which I have toyed with all day today (I've been doing it while talking Sox, so I haven't gotten much done).

QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) apparantly the indians didn't lose Kevin Millwood! Yea, who was he anyway? I mean, its not like he led the AL in ERA

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) And that's why I'm glad we got him signed now. I know some question whether he can repeat his '05 season. I'm not one of them. I'm more worried about Garland than Contreras. But if we didn't extend his contract, and let him walk after this year, it wouldn't be much of a concern to us since we have Brandon McCarthy just aching to get into the starting rotation. Thats what my other post was about. We wouldn't have to go after Contreras, it wouldn't matter.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) But we didn't overpay. Overpaying is what the Yankees did with Pavano and Wright. Overpaying is what the Red Sox did with Clement. Overpaying is what the Blue Jays did with Burnett. Considering the current market, we got Jose at a bargain price. I never said we overpaid. You stated that if we didn't sign Count up now and if he had another year like 2005, he would command a bunch of money in FA, so if we wanted to resign him when he was a FA, we would be forced to overpay similar to how we dealt with Paulie.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) Remember what happened when they waited with Konerko? They ended up paying a lot more money than they wanted to. Say they waited until the end of '06, and Jose has another '05 like season, do you realize how much money he would command? Look at what some of these other guys are making. None of that would matter though, since Brandon McCarthy would be filling in the rotation. With Paulie, there was no other option for the Sox at 1B, so we were forced into overspending for him. With Count however, we have other options (which also happen to be much cheaper), so letting him go into free agency if he repeated his '05 performance wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, and we wouldn't be pressed to overpay for him.

QUOTE(Random @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) what happened to the severe thunderstorm warning banner? I think that one was only used right after Thome was traded for. It hasn't been around for awhile. QUOTE(Random @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) It's funny how nobody comments on a banner until that one person starts a thread about it. I think this is the second thread I've made about a banner

QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I have a couple of issues with this deal: 1. God bless Contreras for what he did for us down the stretch, and in the playoffs, last year, but remember that the guy has had one good HALF season in the majors. He was absolutely awful with the Yankees, and barely mediocre from mid '04 to mid '05 with the Sox. 2. Contreras is listed at 34 years old but we all know El Duque had himself 4 years younger than he really was. If that's the common practice with the Cubans, then Contreras is 38. We just locked him up till age 42. Yikes. 3. Buerhle is only 27 and has had 5 good seaons with the Sox (as opposed to one half). He is the true ace (and face) of this team. I realize we have him locked up for 2 years, but he'll still be only 29 at that point. Why not lock him up long term now, instead of committing all that money to Contreras? This is assuming, of course, that Kenny hasn't been trying to do this all along. I hope he has. I'm not trying to be negative, just looking at the devil's advocate side of things. Contreras was the man for us last year, but to me he hasn't proved enough to warrant this extension. Just my two cents. Someone else gets it!

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Today is a beautiful day, it marks the first game of the new baseball season which is always a good thing, the Sox have the honor of kicking the season off, we're raising the banner tonight, we've got our ace going and we have a new giant white guy in the middle of the lineup to mash. I have a feeling it's going to be a damn good game. Someone has taken over Kalapse.. help!

I've been doing a stupid project, but yesterday I watched some of the World Series. When I finally finish this project, I'm going to pop in Sox Pride & the WS DVD, then get prepped for tonights game. During the game, I'll be on my couch with my Rowand jersey and some grilled chicken

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) And when Abe said 'Lock him up and throw away the key", I don't think it was due to the fact that Liriano is an up-and-coming pitcher on the Twins. Nice angle, but I ain't buying that for a minute. IMO dude is just another hardcore conservative. I hope that I'm wrong, but I seriously doubt it. Are you kidding?

QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 07:48 AM) You take everything with a grain of salt. I'm not saying the site is 100% fact. But not all of it is 100% fiction either RE: Jenks. His velocity isn't the concern. It's his excess weight which could lead to him injuring other parts of his body because of his being in poor shape. It might not be fiction, but 99.9% of the time its the owner of the site sitting at his computer saying "hrm, what story makes sense right now", and then going with it. He showed his stupidity in that same news story, in the comments, where he posted "Lidge for Buehrle?", and later on saying "Buehrle is not untouchable". Basically all of those comments in that news story are foolish (not from just him), including such classics such as "how about baez for brandon mccarthy?" and "One idea I like is Brandon McCarthy for Aaron Heilman".
