L4D2 >> MW2 I haven't played MW2, but given that it's likely the same thing as every other COD game, I feel confident in saying this. I picked up L4D2 today and it's fantastic. They beefed up the gore with the addition of melee weapons, and it's a much more difficult game with new types of zombies, instances and weapons. It's really, really, really awesome. Go buy it, you can thank me later.

Gophers beat Utah Valley 76-51 tonight. We played like s*** for the majority of the game, but still managed to get a 25 point victory. Rodney Williams continued his great start to his rookie campaign, and Colton Iverson continued to be awful. Unfortunately, he's going to keep getting minutes until Mbwake and White get their legal issues settled. -
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Don't forget Felix, this is a list of favorites not best or historically important rock acts. If this is a list of best or most important.....yikes!! Oh, I'm well aware. I just start bleeding in the ears when I listen to some of the bands already listed

Linkin Park beats Cream. Something is seriously wrong here. Of course, I made the mistake of forgetting to put Cream on my list. Ginger Baker is one of my favorite drummers, too

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) I know age plays a major factor in musical taste but you just gotta have bands like Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin,AC/DC in you top 20 no matter what age you are, don't ya? How can you put AC/DC anywhere near Floyd and Zeppelin? AC/DC has some enjoyable singles, but in terms of full albums, they don't come anywhere close to Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin. Also, I didn't have RHCP on my list because I really don't like any of their more recent stuff (I'm sorry, but Californication and By the Way were awful), but their earlier stuff deserves a mention. I'm still not as big a fan of them as most are, so they were right outside my top 20.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) Butler beat NU handily, but top 10? They don't have much talent. They run their system well, but Butler has mid-major talent. Butler has had multiple better teams recently that didn't get top 10 love. Gotta love preseason polls. I'm really, really looking forward to the Minnesota/Butler game on Thanksgiving. It should be a great game. -
Oh god... Green Day. I'm all sorts of sad right now that Soxtalk members apparently enjoy Green Day more than Talking Heads (and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age and just about everyone else on this list)

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) I'm just sad that there's no on this list. You're actually sad about those first two?

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) before you guys bash rise against why dont ya check em out theyre a great local band that make great music and theyre all great people. alot of there music has a strong positive message behind it give em a chance just because you havent heard of doesnt mean theyre not good. I have a feeling all the bands that i voted for that make it will get bashed, but do me a favor and jump onto youtube and check out a couple of their songs before ya bash em, you'll be surprised http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer..._type=&aq=f I have heard of them and heard their music. And I still strongly dislike them (especially the song knightni linked to) Nice to see QotSA make the list. I had them in my top 10 Also, Slipknot is awful.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) f*** Iowa. Glad they suck. qft QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) OK, back to the normally scheduled thread. Please god no. The normally scheduled thread involves pages and pages of ISU/Illinois talk, and there is nothing more annoying -
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce I didn't have him on my list, but he grew up from around my area and went to the same gym as my mom for awhile. She used to use his machines when he was done with them

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) no. I went to SIU, I care. Rowand, Sonik, Brian, they care. Kev, shoe, they care. Just because the team is classified mid major doesnt mean nobody cares. We are the team struggling for notoriety, for exposure, and wanting it doesnt make it wrong. You guys get it without asking for it, so it doesnt make sense to you, I get that. But we do care, we want to the same thing you have. The way kev presented it, I was giving him a hard time about it because SIUE isnt the team I would be quoting(and because he is an ISU fan ), but I totally understand what he was saying. I was saying the same thing a few years ago when SIU went to the sweet 16 and had a chance to play Illinois in round 2(but Illinois lost to Va Tech, which SIU manhandled), just saying "we can beat this team". We just want a chance to go out and play the big teams without that throwaway 2nd game in the contract(which the major schools always buy out). None of this changes the fact that the ISU/Illinois argument is boring and annoying to read. It's been gone over fifty times using the same arguments back and forth, and it's really tiring to see it happen again and again. I do understand that mid-majors have a tough time scheduling matchups with big schools, and that sucks. But look at it from a big schools perspective. If they play a mid-major on the road and lose, they take a serious blow to any tournament hopes they may have. If they play them and win, no one cares about it. With this in mind, why would a big school ever play a mid-major on the road, especially when they can schedule them for a game at home and actually make some real revenue? The system sucks for mid-majors, sure. But that's no reason to have the same stupid ISU/Illinois argument that no one cares about all over again. -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) I'm just trying to show you guys the talent level isn't as lopsided as you think, and you all think that ISU would lose no matter what if they played Illinois when it's not the case. Like I said earlier Illinois probably wins 75% of the time because they are a better team there is not denying that. But it's not 99% of the time like a lot of you guys think. Well never know though because Bruce Weber refuses to play in state teams at their place(Because he unlike you guys realizes that ISU upsetting them in normal and SIU upsetting them in Carbondale is not that far fetched), and Tim Jankovich refuses to play any power conference team @ their court without a return game. I'm just saying that no one cares. We've gone over this argument for the past 3 years in this yearly thread and it never changes. I know you think ISU is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I'm sorry, they really aren't that good and big schools such as Illinois have absolutely no reason to go on the road to play them. You citing some no name coaches opinion about ONE game against both teams means absolutely nothing, and NO ONE CARES. I don't know how to stress that last point enough. The ISU/Illinois argument is old and boring. Find something new to complain about. -
Rise Against is above Talking Heads AND David Bowie? This makes me feel bad about having Bowie on the outside looking in, barely.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) They are on my list probably up at number 5 or 6. Lifelong Tull fan and if they don't make the list I will hold you personally responsible. That said, I'm still kicking myself for leaving Led Zeppelin of my top 20. Not that they won't make the SoxTalk cut in a walk. . . they just should have made my list as well. The Dorrs were another one that probably should have just squeaked in but didn't. I now feel less bad about forgetting to put Jethro Tull on there, since I had both Zeppelin and the Doors on mine. Or at least, I think I did. I know Zeppelin was there and I'm fairly sure the Doors were there, but I don't really remember my list exactly other than the #1 choice

I just realized I forgot to put Jethro Tull on my list. Oh well, they're probably not making this list anyway, but I should have had them on my list for Aqualung alone

QUOTE (kev211 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 02:24 AM) A little something to add to the ISU-Illini debate. SIUE coach after playing ISU two days after they played Illinois. "“We fouled their bigs because we couldn’t contain them a lot. We got outmuscled inside,” said SIUE coach Lennox Forrester, a former Bradley and Evansville assistant. “I know Illinois is long and athletic (inside), but I thought Illinois State’s big guys were just as physical or even more physical than Illinois.” Yep 1% chance of ISU beating Illinois sounds about right. lol I'm not even an Illinois fan, but do you realize how silly this post it? I honestly can't tell when you're being serious or not. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) I will say that if Creed or if STP wind up ahead of Pearl Jam, i'm just going to delete these threads. If Creed shows up on this list at all, I will have lost all faith in Soxtalk members. Hell, I don't even know if I would be able to come back to the forums if that happened.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) You and me are two of the three Soxtalkers that had Talking Heads on their lists — I wonder who the other bloke with good taste is. I'm shocked that they were this low in the list. David Byrne is awesome, and Stop Making Sense is arguably the greatest concert film ever. Fantastic album, too Also, Byrne's solo stuff (and non-Talking Heads material) is pretty good as well. I especially like My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, which he made with Brian Eno.

Gophers tore apart Stephen F. Austin tonight 82-42. They struggled for most of the first half (before a run at the end of the half gave them a slightly more respectable 7 point lead going into halftime), but came out with guns blazing in the second, quickly opening up a 20 point lead. The defense was fantastic in the second, and Rodney Williams was great again coming off the bench. If he keeps this up, he's going to be starting sooner rather than later. -
QUOTE (tommy @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:56 AM) I think the reason Beckham won the two rookie awards in the last couple of week is because people realize that he had to play a brand new position, which seems to be underestimated by most. I think it gives him the edge. While Beckham had a great season, I'm not going to give him any bonus points for playing a new position. There's no knowing how well he'd have performed if he were at a more natural position, so I don't see any reason to give his numbers a boost because of it. Simply put, Andrus was more valuable than him this year. Part of that has to do with having over 100 more PA on the season, but Andrus was actually fairly close to Beckham in terms of VORP this season (17.0 vs 19.2) despite the edge the rate stats give Beckham. Add in his defense (11.7 UZR/150) and you can see why Andrus had a higher WAR (3.0 vs 2.0) and likely has a better chance than Beckham to win AL RotY. Don't get me wrong, Beckham was awesome this year and his value is only going to increase as he moves to 2B next year, but I'm just not sold that he's a better candidate than Andrus. Of course, I'd probably vote for Brett Anderson over both of them. It's a travesty that he only got one vote with the ESPN people, but I guess that's expected with the WWL.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 05:49 AM) perhaps more of a window than divide. They are a "band with a couple nice hits" for me. I do not know too many people in their 50s that would have Pearl Jam on their list. My uncle, who is 51(?), is of the opinion that Ten is the greatest rock and roll album ever. I don't completely agree with him, but it is still a great album.
-
QUOTE (tommy @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) I will be pissed if Andrus wins it over Beckham. Why? A pretty good argument could be made that Andrus had a better year given his massive defensive advantage (and positional value in general). There's no doubt that he was worse offensively, but to put up above average offense at SS with excellent defense is a pretty valuable commodity. Beckham had a great year and deserves credit for what he did, but I don't think it's so obvious that he's more deserving that Andrus.
