  2. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) This is going to be the most difficult March Madness to pick in some time. I know many teams that can win it, but Ill State has to be the favorite. Without a doubt. Their backcourt is by far the best in the nation.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) I love the "Cubbie reasoning". We lost, but hey, we had more fans. The game itself was terrible, but when the home team gets booed coming onto the court and the home team gets cheered with the school fight song getting blasted before the game, there is something serious wrong with the home team's fans.
  4. http://www.laketheposts.com/2009/01/super-busy-weekend.html Completely true. That was a pretty pathetic student section, Northwestern.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) Iowa State took 150 students to the ISU-Mizzou game yesterday. Minnesota took 150 students to the Northwestern/Minnesota game today. And we lost. It was a really terrible game, but the trip was fun at least.
  6. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) You just opened Pandora's Box with the Illini fans. Bring 'em on. The fact that we're starting two freshman bigs right now and lose no one of consequence (I mean really, Abu and Big Jon? Neither should be playing at all right now so losing them actually helps our team). That doesn't even mention that we're getting Rodney White and Royce Williams, who are two very highly touted prospects. Add in Trevor Mbakwe and you have a really talented, young team that will only get better. The Gophers are going to be around for awhile, and I can't wait to see it.
  7. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) Ill take the KU comeback against Memphs with like 1:47 left in the 2nd and down 9. I hope you don't commit suicide when Minny gets knocked out before the sweet 16 in the tourney. They aren't a sweet 16 team, so no, I won't commit suicide when that happens. This year wasn't supposed to be our year, it's next year's team that the rest of the Big 10 should watch out for.
  8. So I woke up this morning and confirmed that the Gopher/Badger game last night indeed wasn't a dream. Honestly, down 10 with four minutes to go, I thought the game was over. Last nights game was the best game I've watched since the Illinois/Arizona game in the 2005 tournament and possibly the best game I've ever seen. The defense was absolutely fantastic down the stretch and Lawrence Westbrook was absolutely insane. Say what you want about the Louisville or Ohio State wins, this was the marquee win of the season. Oh, and we did it with the refs constantly screwing us all night, without DJ in the first half, and without Al Nolen at the end of the second half. Just an absolutely fantastic win.
  9. Please tell me someone else watched that Gopher/Badger game. I need to know it wasn't a dream.
  10. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) They'll be back now that they won again tonight. ding ding ding
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Great crop of classes right their. Being a Sport Management major is awesome, except for the part that my jobs don't pay much (or anything) while I'm still in college and even when I graduate, I'll work long hours and get paid peanuts. Either way, I'm doing what I love, so that's a plus.
  12. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Where did the ISU fans go? They'll be back now that they won again tonight.
  13. PE 1059: Track and Field - Probably going to be the biggest pain of the semester, but at least I'll get in shape SMGT 3501: Sport in a Diverse Society BIE 3061: Professional Sales Management - Going to suck as it's on the St. Paul campus ENGW 1101W: Intro to Creative Writing - Finishing up my writing requirements, it'll suck but I'm taking it pass/fail, so that's a plus. SMGT 3861: Legal Aspects of Sport SMGT 3111: Sport Facility and Management
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) I'd do Dye for Adenhart (if he passes the physical) and Wood. Not too hot for Figgins though There is absolutely no way they would ever do that. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Was there anyone else on the Bees who caught your eye Felix FWIW? Jason Bulger had absolutely nasty stuff out of the pen. He had some ridiculous K/9 rates and gave up hardly anything the entire time I was there. Matt Brown and Freddy Sandoval were pretty solid hitters, but neither had much of a glove and didn't seem like they'd project as major league hitters. Kendry Morales was also pretty good, but I didn't really get to see him too much (he was hurt for awhile, and I was also working with the other teams in the area). The little I did see indicated that he didn't have much of a glove, either. I'm not a scout though, so what do I know?
  15. They get 10 votes, and one of the guys that didn't vote for Rickey only voted for 8 people. That's completely inexcusable.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Was Ricky that much better than Nolan Ryan? Or Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Ted Williams, etc. etc. The fact that none of these people were 100% is enough to say that no one will ever be 100%. And it's stupid.
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Wonder if we could possibly get Nick Adenhart in a deal. His stock went down last season as he was terrible in AAA (Salt Lake City). If you could trade Dye for Figgins and Adenhart, and then sign Abreu to replace Dye, I think that's a move you certainly have to make. As I said before, he's a serious headcase. He's still young and has a lot of time to work out the kinks, but he really needs to get his s*** together. I worked for the Bees out in SLC last summer and got to see a lot of Adenhart. Definitely talented, but was never able to stop big innings from happening. He was also terrible after coming back down from his brief major league stint. And none of this matters because the people in that organization are in love him with. I'd be shocked if they gave him up in a deal for another OF.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) No big deal if he was on a big market club, but the Twins gotta be looking at trading him sometime next year. Hopefully to the NL. The fan base would flip if they traded Mauer. There is simply no way it happens. He's a local kid that literally everyone is in love with, and with a new stadium opening up in 2010, they'd be insane to trade their best player (and one of the best in the league). I mean, when they dealt Johan it was bad. If they dealt Mauer, it'd send a much, much worse message to the fan base. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) If Mauer can't be a catcher anymore, Quentin = Mauer. I'm not too sure about that. Mauer is still young, so who knows what will happen for the rest of his career, but if he continues the way he's started his career (which seems likely with his swing, it's great), he'd rank right up there with Tony Gwynn. Of course, Gwynn is a legend and it's never really fair to compare a player as young as Mauer is to a player of Gwynn's caliber.
  19. Quentin > Morneau Dye ~ Morneau (Dye is the better hitter, but Morneau would get the edge based on age alone) Mauer > Quentin Mauer > Dye So yeah, Mauer & Morneau if only because Mauer is one of the best players in baseball.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) Seriously, who doesn't think tht Seaver or Ryan should have been in the Hall? I think a few of the ex players must just not vote ANYONE in or something. The same people that didn't vote for Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams or Willie Mays. I mean serious, those are all no brainers. Why weren't they unanimous?
  21. Adenhart is a serious headcase. He's still young so he has time to work it out, but he really needs to get his s*** together if he wants to live up to the hype.
  22. I refuse to click the "Wisconsin/Iowa/Indiana" bubble as I am in Minnesota. I also refuse to put down my parents house even though I'm at college, for I have no intentions of returning to the east coast except for Christmas. So yeah, 19-21 and "different state/country" for me.
  23. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 09:46 PM) Well, the greatest team in history has lost twice now and most of the UNC fans have jumped overboard. Fun stuff. When I started reading this post, I thought it was about ISU. That's kind of sad
  24. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Wait, I thought Illinois St was going undefeated en route to the final four? ps. Indiana State? Really? But.. ISU >>>>> any Big Ten team ever
  25. How did the Gophers move up to 19 after getting blown out by Michigan State? I realize we beat OSU, but that doesn't mean we should go up 2 spots.
