The Gophers tore apart Northwestern today at home, which was really, really, really nice to see considering the fact that we lost at NU and have been playing terrible lately. Probably the best part of the game was Craig Moore getting completely shut out after tearing us apart in Evanston and being taken out of the game early in the second half and not coming back. He was whining and frustrated all game and it was great to see him fail miserably. -

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) lost again, oh well It's not particularly surprising, as I've always thought this team was nowhere near as good their start, but it's still depressing nonetheless. The team is so inconsistent and can't do anything on the road, it's frustrating to watch. At least Devoe Joseph is starting to get comfortable. That plus Ralph Sampson III and Colton Iverson coming into their own will make next year fun to watch. -

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) I'm not going to get into every single player, but here's how I think the 5 most recent American League champions' DH players' value are compared to Thome: Thome Thome Thome Thome = David Ortiz (Both useless, neither can play on the field anymore) Thome I am really left speechless by this post. -

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 07:19 AM) Good OBP or not, I'd rather not have a player who can no longer play a position on the field wasting a spot on the 25-man roster as DH. Thome's nothing more than a glorified pinch-hitter, if you think about it. This coming from a guy who thinks an unproven 19-year old Cuban who has never seen major league pitching will at least top Frank Thomas in home runs. It's all beginning to make sense now. -
This shouldn't be a surprise. It's happening all around sports, and will continue to happen until the economy begins to improve.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Oh really? darn, I didn't see that mentioned anywhere on this site. Darn? That's a relief. I never want to see him in a White Sox uniform again, personally.

I think that's pretty stupid, personally.

Gophers beat Indiana at home yesterday by 8 thanks to 22 points from Paul "I should be starting" Carter. I missed it due to work, but considering the fact that 8 people on the team were getting over food sickness I can't complain. A win is a win. -
QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Getz following in Griffey and Erstad's footsteps... Doesn't have much to live up to. As long as he can be only a slightly below average major leaguer, he'll be an improvement.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) I would say the real problem was that they arent very good away from their home court. That and the duo of Evan Turner and William Buford. Yep, but that's the same deal as the turnovers. The team isn't composed on the road. I don't know if they are flustered by the crowd or something, but they are always reckless on the road which definitely affects the turnovers. They make too many mental mistakes, which is something they are pretty good at avoiding at home. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Polar Bear is today. I'm going to get pretty hammered. You go to polar bear or a different bar? What a great day yesterday was, started drinking at 11 in the morning and stopped at 6 this morning. BTW, Vodka and Redbull must be the worst hangover ever. I'm having one hell of a time typing right now cause my whole body is pretty much tweaking.

QUOTE (4 points @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:11 AM) Felix, the Gophers are very much improved, but dude, if they don`t figure out how to do a better job rebounding, they will continue to struggle against teams with bigs in the paint. Good luck the rest of the way. Rebounding is normally a problem (although this year is far better than previous years in that regard), but we outrebounded OSU by 7 yesterday. It wasn't a problem against them at all. The real problem was unforced turnovers, especially by our guards. Al Nolen had an uncharacteristically bad game and when he's struggling its very hard for our offense to get going. -

Gophers kept it close against OSU today, but fell again. We really need to improve our offense if we have any hope of doing anything this year, although seeing Hoff make some shots was a damn nice thing. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) God Big Ten refs are so bad. A Purdue player ran into a pick and because he fell down the ref called it a trip. Everyone on the court was laughing because it was such a terrible call. Was it Hightower? That guy is terrible. I was talking to a player on the Gophers today about him, and he basically said that Hightower was a terrible ref who thinks people are there to watch him instead of the game. I found it hilarious, and was also relieved that I wasn't the only one who thought that -
I'm fairly certain that the series reference is from another thread, but the thread that I had saved in my notepad is dead for me, presumably because I'm not an admin or moderator Either way, I think the original one was this: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...2476&st=160 I certainly could be wrong however. That still gets my vote.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) Minny is very overrated that high. 5 road games, not a single one against a tourney team unless you are counting Iowa. This also includes a loss at Northwestern. The Louisville game was essentially a road game too, as it was at a neutral court. I'm not sure if you included that one, but I assume not since they are pretty obviously a tournament team. I agree that we're slightly overrated (mostly because we aren't the 19th best team in the nation), but we just blew out Illinois at home by 23. We were #27 in the AP poll last week, and Illinois was 19. I don't think it's ridiculous that we moved to their spot. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) IMO, Michigan State is overrated. They barely beat Illinois at home, they lost to Penn State, they got smoked by UNC and Maryland at neutral sites, and they lost to Northwestern at home. I find it very likely that Minnesota beats the Spartans. I find it very unlikely, but I guess we'll see.
