QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) California, Alabama, Arkansas and Long Island Having lived in NY state, this makes sense.

Kansas. I'm sure it would have been mentioned earlier, but nobody remembered that it existed.

QUOTE (zimne piwo @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 04:31 AM) "Be the Master of your Domain" Can't believe no one else has said that yet! That's a euphemism for NOT "answering the bone-a-phone". I found a comprehensive list of euphemisms (from a safe website) but it's more fun to see what other people come up with, but this one is great: Dishonorable discharge.

QUOTE (rockren @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) I don't think he was insinuating anything about anyone in particular... The question was posed if KW should be worried about upsetting Dye or Pods and maybe ruffling their feathers at all. KW responded, "Uhhhh no. A game like yesterday ruffled my feathers." To me, his comment had a very "you made your own bed" feel to it.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Both guys had different priorities. KW was trying to trade for Peavy, and Riccardi was trying to dump Halladay and Rolen. KW didn't make that call until just before the deadline.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Cowley says Kenny was trying to get Rios before the deadline anyway. Puts the "block Detroit" stuff to rest. Wait. So JP wouldn't make a deal when he could have gotten talent for him, but would then dump him for nothing?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Wait, what does that mean in terms of Podsednik? I was just recapping what Cowley said. KW is going to be meeting with the team soon from the sound of it. We will know more then.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) does this mean Pods is out or something? Rios OBP isn't stellar this year. If it's something they want to work on with him in ST (I believe he's only 28) for next year cool, but this year? No. It means that when Pods isn't playing, those are the options.
-
Per Cowley on the Score: Lot of confusion in the Sox club house, but coaching staff telling guys that this is another sign that the Sox are going for it. Beckham is being considered as lead off, or possibly Rios.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers

Holmes had an interesting question. Does this mean that Quentin is still injured and needs to be shut down? Or were the Sox simply caught in a block? -

Well Holy s***. Have I ever been right? No. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) The difference with Manroid is that he was placed on irrevocable waivers. So I forgot a key fact. Big deal.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) But, a lot of his managers threatened to start beanball wars. But they were losing 17-0. In the bottom of the 5th.

QUOTE (nastymasty21 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) If he was pulled back dont yout think it would be announced by the Jays so they dont have to deal with this media firestorm for another day? Something has to be up for all this secrecy taking place Possibly. I guess I agree with the overall premise that this trade won't happen. I don't have a clue what the teams can or can't talk about. -

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) I already believe rios was pulled back. But, that's my thought. Agreed. It's very rare for guys to be dumped over waivers. I can't imagine a trade with the Jays since Riccardi wasn't interested in anything for Halladay. They don't appear to match up. -
Never, EVER underestimate the power of human stupidity.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:39 AM) I'd say that would be more accurate. Half our roster has probably already been claimed on waivers. Especially Wise. I remember in 2005 there was a story that had people (think on WSI?) freaking out because Buehrle had been claimed by someone. I remember in 2004 Boston freaked out because Manny was placed on waivers. In any event, I hope McCulloch is traded so I can see the inevitable "We are very excited and envision him in the starting rotation next season" non-sense from whoever picks him up. Then I will laugh and laugh.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) The second, really (The DJ-led bullpen effort v. NYY on 7/31 was the first). We're 2-0 thus far. If the Sox don't win the division it won't be because of the 5th starter for these few weeks. That's for sure.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) The contract could be a bargain. The economy is steadily improving so it could be much better in 2011-12-13. He'd be getting Dye money for those years but a younger, faster ,better defensive version of Dye in his prime ( if he didn't peak in 2007). That's what the Jays thought. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) f*** Pods. He's the odd man out unless Dead is traded. Sorry, he has been productive; but he's not in the long term plans of this club. I agree, except who leads off this season? Beckham?
