QUOTE (shipps @ May 23, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) What is up with that? Is he going to a part of the Score now? Boers was out sick and the Score called him last minute to fill in. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to get a deal. Let's face it, there are 4 awful hours between 10 and 2 that have to be filled.

Does Peavy end up with White Sox before the trade deadline?
G&T replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No. Not because the Sox don't want to complete the deal, but because I think we will see something else happen between now and then that will end the deal. If the deal happens though, it will be for less because by the deadline, I think Pads will take anything, and Peavy will realize that he won't get his demands. -
Looks like KW is sending a message: Trib

Interestingly, Dan McNeal is co-hosting with Bernstein today.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) So what Peavy wanted was... -the Sox to guarantee his last year -the Sox to deal 4 prospects to San Diego -And the option of an opt out clause What a damn joke. So if Peavy gets off this year and pitches well, he'd have just hit the open market, and headed back to the NL If Peavy came to the Sox and sucked or was injured, then he'd just hang around for 4 years cashing checks from our organization. Is this how anyone else reads it? Yeah, that's exactly right.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Dude on the score, brian farook or whoever he is said the rumors floating around per SI or Rosenthal or.. something/someone What Peavy's agent said it would take for him to waive his NTC: ALL SUITORS: Guarantee to pay all 4.5 years of his contract including the full 22 million for 2013 ALL SUITORS: Full No-Trade protection for the entirety of the contract WHITE SOX ONLY (Due to NL/AL Switch probably) Opt-out clause for any year of the contract after 2009 Wow. Opt out clause, eh? That's code for, we aren't going to the AL for more than half a season. No one with a brain will give the first 2, and unless there's blackmail, no one will give the 3rd.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) So let's see... who is going to take on this whole contract? Hmm.... The Cubs can't afford it, in fact they can't do anything. The Astros can't do it, and neither can the Braves. No one in the NL sans maybe league rivals the Giants and Dodgers can. The Pads aren't eating salary. The Pads want to move him because they can't afford him. The Pads can't eat part of the contract and they would like some talent in return. Up to this point, the Sox have been the best suitor, which is why the Pads agreed in the first place. Now Peavy wants more than he's going to get. The only way he gets that option guaranteed is if he either goes to the AL or gets traded to a division rival for probably a smaller package of talent considering the increased payroll complications. He's asking for the impossible really. Rosenthal doesn't seem to get that. Rosenthal is only saying that the demands would not be as high for an NL team. I addressed this pages ago when I quoted the same language. We don't know what he would want from and NL team. Rosenthal thinks an NL team would not have to pick up the option, which would mean they wouldn't have to eat the whole contract. If you read the article he blames the Padres for the inability to move Peavy because they had better deals in place but Towers wouldn't pull the trigger. My opinion is that he is wrong. I think Peavy wants the option picked up no matter what, but what do I know.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Ken Rosenthal is a chode chug champion. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9598700...-served-to-wait He wrote the above article talking about how Peavy made the right decision basically because the Sox suck now and probably will suck in the future, and the Cubs are a whole lot better. And what if the Cubs can't make any trade? And besides, f*** the Cubs anyway. I read the article and I don't know what's so inaccurate. It really has little to do with the Cubs, but more to do with the NL.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) If this affair has taught me anything it’s that Ken Rosenthal is an ignorant midget who can go screw himself because no one will be stupid enough to do it for him.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) right, and some people are going to panic because it says "Cubs" but he could have slotted LAD, Hou, Stl or another one of the NL teams he said was OK. This supports that Gammons said he had reservations about LAA, Red Sox and NYY last year, it's not like he's singling the White Sox out as far as his AL thing goes. In reality, we don't even know what he would have wanted from an NL team either. That's all speculation. I think that $22M option has to be picked up no matter what.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Cubs lineup is hilarious tonight. It's all .200 hitters basically from Lee (in the four hole) until the pitcher. So it's the Sox lineup?
-
This is from Rosenthal though I'm sure it has been posted: He's not Johan. I wish this deal got done, but it's clear that he is scared that he won't get another big deal if he pitches in the AL. By 2012 we could have been looking at an albatross.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) Shouldn't this process begin with; Towers, "Hang on Ken let me call you back." Towers, "Jake if the Sox can get a deal done, will you go there......no.....what will it take to get you to agree..........ok" Towers, " Ken, Kevin, this is what Jake wants and this what we want.........deal?" Then the process begins. Is this whole thing ass backward or is that just me? To be fair, Peavy said, if I recall, that he would do what's best for the franchise. I think Towers believed it, and now we all know that isn't true.
-
How would you like to be Towers right now? He has the deal ready for a guy who claims he wants to do what's best for the franchise, and would have to assume that the deal will get done and help solve a major problem...and then nothing. Now he will have to try again knowing he will never get a deal even equal to the Sox offer.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Did Dan Haren and/or Miguel Cabrera ever sign extensions? Cabrera did.
-
QUOTE (DanksFan @ May 21, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) heyman one bad sign late in the game on peavy: #white sox were asked by #padres: "you got any ideas on how to persuade him?'' That might be code for: you better tell him there are no better offers coming.

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 21, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) not going to blame the sox brass for not picking up that option....22 mil is a ton i will say that someone has to take some blame for designing a ballpark that has driven pitchers away from our team If you aren't going to pick up the option, then why bother making a deal?
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Olney just claimed the holdup isn't about the option...that they aren't even discussing that. So...what is the hold up then?
-
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) I guess we'll see who is more motivated to get this deal done, the Sox or the Padres. Either could kick in some of that option money to placate Peavy. The Padres won't put in money. That's why Peavy has to be traded in the first place.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Thank you. However, I don't get why they have to make such a big deal about any of this stuff. Big whoop, I graduated from high school. It's not like millions of other teenagers are doing that this year... Oh wait. I'd gladly accept my diploma through the mail. High school sucks. Your best years are ahead.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) I've been out of the loop for the past 4 hours, at last check the SD newspaper was reporting that no deal was imminent. What's it looking like now? It appears that the Sox and Peavy are in negotiations in order for him to waive the NTC. He is seeking to have his $22M option guaranteed, and get Full no trade protection through the end of the deal. Sox are trying to defer some of the $22M.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) The Padres have completed their end of the trade! For Tony Gwynn Jr. That joke happened like 15 pages ago.
-
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) ESPNNews just promo-ed the fact they will talk about other trades the White Sox may make if the Peavy trade goes through.....should be an interesting discussion after the commercial break. It wasn't very interesting.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) Could the Sox renegotiate the back-end of the deal? Basically wipe out the option year and maybe have two guaranteed years at $15 or $16 mil? Not suggesting, just asking if they could do this and the union would sign off on it. It's lees money for him in that one year, but more money overall, that's why I ask. No. The union would flip if money is renegotiated in any way. That would take more time to get approval.
-
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) There is an agreement in place between the Padres and the Sox. Now, Peavy and the Sox need to reach an agreement. I agree with the others, if the two sides are down to nitty gritty contract details, that's probably a good sign. But, if they're still apart on whether or not to exercise an $18M option, that's still a pretty big gap. You are correct. However, if KW did his due diligence going into this, he'd know that the option was likely going to be demanded, as we have discussed. The remaining issue will be doing what it takes to avoid a full NTC for the remainder of the deal. KW doesn't want that to happen. This is probably where the other perks come in.
