  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) There is an agreement. We all have known that since 6 or 7am. That's between two parties who now have no control. He means over the NTC.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Thats easy to get around, make him hate it here, trade him to somewhere he wants to play, he waives it. Or become financially insolvent, then force him out.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Broadway is/was one of the pitchers being discussed. http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/200...nt-9274/?padres He's pitching right now so obviously they aren't being careful with him.
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Can someone summarize briefly these three points so I don't have to sift through 71 pages: 1) what is the likely package we are giving up? 2) what aspects of this trade would be attractive to peavy, beyond one-time recent world series winner with a mostly different core of players now? 3) has anyone given any indication as to how long he plans to mull this over? 1. We don't know, but it involves Poreda and Richard. 2. Money 3. No, but the Sox want an answer today because he is supposed to pitch tomorrow.
  5. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Levine just stated on ESPNNews that Peavy wants the limited no trade clause extended through the contract in addition to guaranteeing the final year (and possibly turned into a full no trade clause). That's fine. He won't get a full NTC, but this is all bargaining now. Obviously he will say that he wants everything.
  6. Well Colon is done. Nothing like a 1 pitch pitcher.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Classic BearSox. 2013 is f***ing 4 years away. Anything can happen with a pitcher. $22 million would cripple this franchise... even if he plays well. That's f***ing Manny money. If the Sox picked this up, I'd be livid. If KW went into this without thinking he'd have to pick up the option then he wasn't thinking things through. There are certain players the organization is willing to make a leap for, and Peavy is one of them.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Their's a story from San Diego about Peavy not showing up at the gym today. Ok, now this is just getting weird. He's kinda busy.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) $22M for Peavy in '13?? That would be insanity, not to menthat DeLuca said that was the START of sweeteners. It's probably trips to see family and stuff like that.
  10. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) via deluca twitter I figured that back when the Cubs wanted him. That was probably the only team he wouldn't require the option picked up for. Honestly though, KW had to know that would be a condition. So I don't know if it's a deal breaker yet.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) The way we usually do things, wouldn't be surprised if it is announced at the game during the 7th inning stretch or even post game that he accepted the deal. Who knows. Nope. There might be guys on that bench getting traded. That would suck.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Quick give us an update. I can't eat or sleep I am so giddy with anticipation Nothing new.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) On the Score Holmes said we would know by this afternoon if Jake accepted the deal, does he have some sort of deadline or what? Early on it was reported that the Sox wanted to know this afternoon because Peavy is set to pitch tomorrow. I don't know if things have changed.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) Doesn't sound like that to me at all, sounds like he's reading hte same press reports we are. Agreed. If he talked to KW or anyone else, they would have told him not to say anything.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Well his agent said he has a preferance to pitch in the NL... I just can't find out when he said that. Someone earlier posted that the comment was made when he hadn't talked to him since last night... the about an hour since the bad news hit seems to me it's not officially dead, like I posted earlier, KW and the Sox will get the news out there quickly if it is dead officially, they don't want it out there one second longer than it has to be.; I think his agent wants him to pitch in the NL more than Peavy.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) well if multiple sources are saying the AL thing, to me, it's a real issue for him. I think the one glimmer of hope is that the Pads, Sox or Peavy's agent haven't come out and flat out said it's a dead deal. That's fine, but the Padres have to be telling him that they can't get a better deal in the NL. There aren't that many teams that can afford him and the Cubs aren't in the mix right now.
  17. Score has Padres announcer on, and he doesn't think anything is imminent. Again he's citing the AL problem.
  18. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) Has this not been posted yet? It's been up for a bit. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4191562 Here's the thing: if he really doesn't want to move to the AL, then why are the Padres even discussing anything with the Sox? I'm doubtful this deal gets done. It doesn't sound like Peavy will make any decision any time soon, but it cannot simply be to stay in the NL. I think that ship has sailed for the Padres.
  19. QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) Right. And as far as I'm concerned I don't give a damn about the Cubs. But can you imagine the uproar in the Cubs-friendly media if this deal goes down? Yes. And I'd laugh and laugh.
  20. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) score update said inside source pending deal and agreed peavey decision What?
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) If this deal happens, you can bet your money the Cubs are going to be all over the papers for missing out That's fine, but the Sox are not making this deal as a "shot across the bow" of the Cubs.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) Well, they would have to do extensive medical examinations to avoid another Sirotka situation, but that's S.O.P. It wouldn't hurt to have Dr. Andrews look at him, either. The two WBC's are worth taking into consideration, as well. But it would definitely be a shot across the bow against the Cubs, who certainly aren't looking like sure things anymore in the NL Central. This has nothing to do with the Cubs.
  23. Olney claims that Peavy talked to Towers last night as well. However, he also said that he can't get any confirmation on the rumor.
  24. Kurkjian on Mike and Mike: Says it probably isn't going to happen with the Sox though it makes sense. He seems to think the Pads will wait a little longer. Frankly he seemed to have no real thoughts. BTW: Why would a player meet with a manager to discuss a trade? Shouldn't he meet with the GM?
  25. This is reported second hand off the MLB board:
