  1. I just discovered that my liquor store has Busnel Calvados for $27. It didn't say what exactly it was and it was in the liqueur section rather than brandy so I decided to look it up first. There were only 2 bottles, so I better grab it tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) Interesting read on the way to work this morning: Phosphate With a Twist That's really cool. Thanks for posting. I might have to buy some phosphate...
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) I am so happy Im young and hangovers tend to stay away from me, of course there are the special occasions where I mix a bottle of wine, beer, and shots in one night which usually makes me feel like doing nothing the next day. The worst is the jungle juice with everclear in it, that always gives me the worst headaches, or my infamous tequila nights where I black out by midnight and almost always have something important in the morning, I never remember those nights but my friends always do... My hangover are usually tied to the quality of beverage. I can drink a lot of cocktails without hangovers (plenty of drunk), or good beer. Of course, I might not be as fair as I should be as I may have been a bit dehydrated last night anyway.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) Ha well with the exchange rate they are pretty much marked up 40% to begin with. If it was in dollars they would be pretty sweet deals, still I won't complain picking up Duvel 6 packs for 5 euro, or some specialty bottles for less than a euro each. Well that makes me feel better. What made me feel worse was the Guiness. One damn Guiness and I woke up with a pounding headache.
  5. Why aren't stores here offering 25% off Belgians?! I'm drinking Guiness. Ill tolerate it for tonight.
  6. As a Kappa Sigma member I can say that the national organization takes this stuff very seriously. This could cost them their charter. Unless the chapter has enough alumni to donate and change their mind, which is an unfortunate reality. But seeing as how this is public, I think that I the email is real, that chapter will be gone.
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) I tend to agree with that. The fact that he just happens to be the ONLY person to tell that story is a little suspect. You are making an assumption that he is the only one. His stories are just the ones that survived.
  8. It's possible it was destroyed, especially back in 2009 when my bottle shop wasn't moving belgians the way it does now. One day I will give it another shot. Meanwhile, I had a Dieu Du Ciel Spice Route (it has a french name but this is the translation). There is little remarkable about this beer on its face. Rather basic rye ale, which some rich maltiness. Bit of chocolate and caramel, yadda yadda. Good, but nothing great. It is the after taste that contains the oddity. Peppercorns. Palate blasting peppercorns. The beer is brewed with them and the bottle says it causes a lingering pepper flavor but I didn't believe it. By the end of the bottle it felt like I ate a steak au poive. I give them credit for a very unique beer. Don't know that I would want another...usually that means I will crave it soon.
  9. I've had the Westmalle Tripel and wasn't impressed. That dubbel looks great now though. I am having a South Hampton Tripel and it is fantastic. Bubblegummy, berries, banana. Awesome.
  10. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 7, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Just tell them that if their kid isn't good enough then they should put in extra effort outside of practice and games to improve. You don't complain to teachers that their kid isn't doing well in a class if they aren't studying for it. I think that happens a lot actually.
  11. Hammock sipper? I have to move. I have a lot of eggs so I guess I better mix em up. I'll probably try my hand at a rum flip. I'll let you know the results.
  12. Man you were doing some catching up last night, eh? That's sounds pretty awesome. I went out for my wife's bday where I was served a warm Negroni. It was undrinkable. Some places should not allow the bar tenders to actually control anything. Passion fruit syrup is awesome on ice cream and waffles by the way, so don't waste it all on awesome drinks. I have mixed up the Palace Court a couple of time since getting the Barbancourt. I find the lime to cover some of the niceties of the rum. It is certainly a good drink, but this might be one I save for sipping.
  13. I think I've had enough of winter. 1-3 inches of snow were predicted for today. Looks like we are getting closer to 8 inches. Since no one was prepared for it, no one was plowing. And it isn't even really snow. It more like falling slush.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) ick, let's get the ball inside a little on offense Besides Deng, no one is going inside. Derrick is settling for jump shots all night. When they drive the game looks totally different.
  15. Wow Taj. That's a hell of a series there. 2 missed layups and 2 fouls.
  16. 39% shooting for the Bulls v. 59% for Miami.
  17. Do they sell the one with the double socks? That's pretty cool.
  18. I think you should consider whether it is actually worth fighting. Would you be missing work in order to sit in a court hopin a cop doesn't show up? Which is more expensive in the long run? I don't see why the cop wouldn't just sign an affidavit attesting to the veracity of the radar reading, etc. I doubt he has to show up. I think that only works if the DA wasn't able to get all the necessary documents or if there is a question as to the radar's accuracy. In any event, I doubt a DA is going to talk to you without a lawyer. That's not how it works in traffic court. It's a system where you hire a defense attorney who talks to the DA and it gets reduced. Also, you aren't going to get off by telling a judge that it was an "honest mistake." Others probably have better information than me, but I think you are wasting your time unless you either can't afford to pay, or your insurance will skyrocket.
  19. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) That sounds outstanding and right up my alley. A bottle of it will set me back $14 at one of the good local beer bars, but I may have to treat myself some time soon. Unfortunately that is the rate for quality sours. I grabbed a small bottle for $10 at the bottle shop. Its $20+ for the full 750ml. I don't pony up often at those rates. But damn is it good. Meanwhile, I also grabbed a bottle of Barbancourt 5 star and WOW. This is a quality sipper and smooth as hell. No problem drinking this with just a couple ice cubes. I should add that we made a long anticipated trip to Table and Vine in Massachusetts. Blew through a couple months of my liquor budget but I only really splurged on the 3 Fontenein. Everything else was a good buy or impossible to get around me. Grabbed some Rodenbach, Pretty Things, South Hampton, a bottle of Leblon and the Barbancourt. I hadn't bought beer since December after my massive Christmas beer haul. This haul will have to last till like April.
  20. I shelled out for the 3 Fontenein Oude Geuze. Oh my God. It is so funky and sour it's amazing. Tons of lemons and mustard yet pleasant green apple lies in there as well.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 20, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) Quick tax question: If my wife were to live in one state (Iowa) but work via remote desktop for a company in another state (Illinois), which state does she pay income tax in? As far as I know, if the company paying the salary is in Illinois, you pay IL income tax.
  22. Remade my passion fruit syrup and it is awesome. Did the same hurricane recipe and it is very very good.
  23. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Feb 19, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) I can't figure out what the best beer in the world is, Miller Lite or Bud Light Lime. Miller. It doesn't make me throw up.
