  1. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) You sure it's two years? I thought it was only one? Per Turbotax's site, its 2 (page down to the scenarios).
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) No it is not. There is not 1 pitcher that thinks Konerko cannot hurt them. Yes, of course they don't want to get hurt by PK or anyone else. But they are very aware of who is hot (Jim) and who is not (Paulie), and pitch accordingly. Its just part of the game. Therefore, without question, Jim is being avoided by some pitchers.
  3. Since its been talked about often lately in game threads in chat, here is an interesting note on personnel development in the organization (from the Trib): One wonders if KW is maybe purging and reseting some of his player development staff. Could be, or it could just be an isolated thing.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 07:58 AM) This is simply not true. Well, actually, it is. But that takes very little away from Jim being teh awesome. And yeah, once PK breaks out, someone will pay.
  5. So far, I've been to 41 of the 50 states, and 11 countries on 3 continents. Where do I want to go? Everywhere. Anywhere. Not enough time to see everything I'd like to see. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 06:22 AM) Places I've been: Most of the lower 48. Many spots in Mexico Few spots in Canada Once did Canada/US/Mexico in a 24 hour period. Places I am going: Texas Clipper (when it is finally sunk) Continental Divide Trail Pacific Crest Trail Trail of Tears (land or water routs) Places I hope to go: Full time cruising aboard a single handed sailboat Tex- We're doing another CDT segment this year, in Montana. Long weekender, in late August. PM if you want to join us (Middle of Somewhere). We do at least one segment every year.
  6. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) Iowa makes Indiana look like a liveable place I'd rather not live in either, but I'll take Iowa over Indiana in a heartbeat.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 06:05 AM) In the espn.com chat with Keith Law he said Erstad was the worst starting player in the AL. He also said the White Sox must be trying not to score runs with him leading off. It really is just plain ridiculous to have him leading off, and he shouldn't even be starting. Its embarassing.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) I don't do taxes, but if you sell after two years you get to sell them at the 15% Capital Gains rate and if you sell them before than you'd pay taxes on them as if it were normal income (which would be whatever your tax bracket is and that would be a higher percent). I'm pretty sure those are the exact details, but if ChisoxRd is around he could tell me for sure (because I despise taxes and even though I'm an accountant I have a friend at my firm do them for free for me). I can confirm this, I've done it myself. Company stock purchased via ESPP like that you pay taxes on them like they are income, if you sell within 2 years. After that, its capital gains, at that rate only. Your income tax rate depends on your income. The income tax could really bite you in the rear if you sell early. Careful also of cost basis. Was the LAST purchase less than 2 years ago, or all at once at some point? If it was periodic purchase, some of the purchases may have come longer ago. Look into your trade dates.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) I can't since I'm vegan. In that case, I can certainly respect your views on killing animals. But I fail to see how hunting is any worse than commercial animal processing.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) It's what he does. If he does, there will be a fight. And ejections. I think its actually more likely that Vazquez will hit a Rangers' hitter.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) So you are saying he is losing his OBP because he has to hit for more power? H-O-R-S-E-S-H-I-T! Wow.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) That is all he has to do in the 8-slot and he will be better as well. However, he hasn't. The only slot he has ever hit well in is the #2 slot. No, he was moved down specifically to be given the chance to hit for more power and drive the ball more. Going from 2 to 1 is nothing of that sort.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Who said Pods was a high OBP guy? I highly doubt Iguchi would be a good leadoff man. In fact I don't believe he can hit anywhere else in the lineup besides #2. He hasn't proven that he can. What? All he has to do is hit exactly like he does in the 2-slot and he'll be a better leadoff man than Pods.
  14. Crede's value on the market for trade this year or free agency after 2008 (not 2007), still has a very wide range of possibilities. If he stays healthy all year and puts up 2006-like numbers with his usual stellar D, then he's definitely Top 10 and close to Top 5 among 3B. If on the other hand he has a 2005-like season, and/or spends time injured, and/or let's his defense go down a bit... then he becomes a middle-of-the-league 3B in value.
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) He looks better than Molina, but I wouldn't want to rush Lucy. It sounds like he is finally comfortable at the plate, let's keep it that way. Also, I'm not going to go crazy over his numbers because we've seen multiple contact hitters rake in Birmingham's big park and then fall flat in Charlotte before adjusting (if they adjust). Ok, I'm gonna admit I didn't look at his splits before I said that. I forgot milb.com has splits now. He is 6-13 on the road with 4 doubles, 7-22 with 3 doubles at home. It's still early, but wow. Its those doubles that say even more than just his numbers, to me. He must be driving the ball really well. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) Using Donny Lucy as the backup catcher this early in his development would be a major mistake. He's finally starting to come around a bit (at least its looking that way) with the bat and it will be huge for him to stay healthy this year and just get a full season of Ab's so he can continue to grow. Than you consider using him next year (possibly) giving him time to get familiar with the Sox starters as a backup before eventually taking over more and more from AJ (in a perfect scenario). Having him at the major league level this year would prevent that (he still needs more minor league AB's). I agree that ideally, he gets in a year this year in AA/AAA, then maybe he starts getting MLB time next year. And I'm sure you are right that getting more time starting somewhere is better for him this year than being a backup. But if Hall is out the year, and Molina and Wiki still look bad, and the Sox are in the thick of things... well, I think its something to consider.
  16. Featured in an article in B-Ham paper.
  17. I Donny Lucy. We already knew he played plus D, and we've seen his big offensive numbers so far this year. He's improved his stats every year. He's got some speed. And now, the one thing I couldn't find info on - he can also call a good game. I'm hoping he's in Charlotte this year, and if Hall doesn't make it back in 2007, then Lucy should get some consideration for the backup C role.
  18. Let's keep the momentum going, and let's destroy one of our most hated opposing pitchers. GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!
  19. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 08:09 AM) From another forum: "The mentality I have seen most Law enforcement personnel display does not give me any confidence in their abilities. In addition, most law enforcement training is rather lacking. A firearms training facility in Nevada is running a 26 episode challenge between "trained" law enforcement personnel and "plain aficionados" that have gone through their training. The "plain aficionados" have won in the neighborhood of 80% of the competitions. Check out www.frontsight.com to learn about the facility." Would people be more comfortable if getting a concealed carry permit required training at a facility such as this? I read that site a bit, and let's be clear - he sets up people who are trained AS marksmen against cops who have regular but sporadic training in firearms to be proficient. Not really a good side-by-side study. If the cops went against regular recreational shooters, the number would be reversed, more than likely.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) Or he could have thought outside the box, instead of targeting the big name high priced free agent leadoff men. He went with his bad, oft-injured in house option which was never going to work, there were a number of high OBP, lower speed leadoff type players available this offseason. You don't need to overpay for high SB, low SB% slap hitters when you can instead target guys who are simply going to get on base for you and now he has neither. The Sox still have a leadoff type hitter on the roster though he'll never be used in that role, in Iguchi. Hell, we had at least 2 better options IN HOUSE - Mack and Gload.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) If KW is willing to pay the price (which I highly doubt he is) a trade involving a soon to be free agent Ichiro is not totally out of the question. You're not exactly dealing with a genius in Seattle. And as for KW's question, that was his job this offseason, to find a REAL leadoff hitter and he f***ed that up. It's his own fault that he's backed into a corner yet again. And what do you think the price would be for an Ichiro who would be leaving Seattle this offseason anyway?
  22. Love minor league games, love Iowa. Can't wait to see the Field of Dreams this year (RAGBRAI goes right by it).
  23. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) I am sure that is true but I was responding to the notion that there are certain hunters that need to hunt otherwise they and their family will die. I find it hard to believe that a large number of people in our country are in that situation. But who knows...maybe I'm wrong. If you are not a vegetarian, then you too eat food that was killed for you. And animals processed commercially for food may be even less well-used than those animals killed by hunters. So please explain how processed animal kills are OK but hunting is not.
  24. Mark, I know you'll never read this but... You friggin' ROCK!!!! That was awesome.
