  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) To tel you the truth, I'd rather see Dan Black on the South Side than Wilkins if possible, that kid has earned it with his time and numbers in the minors...not that Wilkins hasn't I like Dan, and coming into the season, I said if he puts up AAA numbers like had at other levels, he did have a (slim) shot. But he hit a wall in AAA. Wilkins is far more deserving at this point, though neither are likely to be a long-term option. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) 2 things...how much of a prospect is Marin? and regardless of his control issues, does anyone else realize Andrew Mitchell has .199 ERA against him? That's fantastic, I knew he was a prospect coming outta TCU but how much of one is he know? Marin is still a guy that may barely register on a T25 in the org, probably not even that. His cutter has helped him a lot, but he's still not got any pitches that stand out. Mitchell's ERA is nice and all, but look at his walks. His control is horrifically bad. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Any thoughts on Ravelo potentially to the corner outfield, under the "couldn't possibly be worse than Viciedo" clause Lots of people asking this right now. He flopped defensively at 3B, and he's never played OF in his pro career, so I'd say such a move is unlikely. But not impossible. He does have some athleticism.
  2. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Do you think it's possible Ravelo would get the call rather than Wilkins if Dunn goes? Or do you get the sense they want him to hit for more power in minors? I'd say it's pretty unlikely they call up Ravelo from AA. His power is increasing but still not where they'd want it (Nick Capra pointed to the need for more power from him recently), and he's 22 in AA. More likely they give Wilkins an audition in Chicago, though he's probably more auditioning for other teams than the Sox. Stranger things have happened though.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) Considering we're in no place to sell our prospects, wouldn't this deadline and the draft and international signings tighten things up? Draft won't clog the top. And the crowding problem is mostly about the infield - Sanchez, Saladino, Semien, Davidson to play 3 skill IF positions. With Wilkins at 1B. Once a likely trade of Beckham and/or Ramirez occurs, one or more of those guys will be in Chicago most likely, thus opening up playing time and allowing Ravelo to split time at 1B/DH with Wilkins. For that matter, Dunn may be traded too, and it is possible Wilkins also goes to Chicago.
  4. For everyone saying they want Ravelo in AAA, I agree he's ready, but there is absolutely nowhere to put him right now. Likely that changes in the next few weeks as trades loosen things up, but until then, it won't kill him to stay in AA a few more weeks.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) Lol didn't even realize I said deliver. I obviously meant reliever. So which one is it? Haha, sorry, couldn't help myself. Honestly I have no idea, to answer your questions.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) https://twitter.com/JayneWTHB/status/487360951536996352 You are the Twitter Rake. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) Is Doran going to be a starter or deliver? Well if he pitches poorly, maybe pizzas.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) This guy going to the Astros org... http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=608736 No loss there. Source?
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) Bruce Levine @MLBBruceLevine · 10m Baseball source confirms Carlos Rodon signs a $6.82 million deal with White Sox . @BaseballAmerica first report . ReplyReplied to 0 times RetweetRetweeted 11 times11 FavoriteFavorited 6 times6 Levine just wrote the incorrect $$ figure right? Well I saw 6.582 from BA, not 6.82. I would be BA's number is correct, because 6.82 puts them into pick-losing territory. Bruce must have mistyped.
  9. FutureSox article on the signing of Rodon at $6.582M. And for the love of God, enough with the hyperanalysis of this kid's GF.
  10. Article on the signing up on FutureSox, with gory math detailshttp://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...on-for-6582000/.
  11. Baseball America now reporting $6.582M for Rodon signing. This puts them over the limit and into 75% tax penalty territory on the overage (by about 385k), but stays just/short of draft pick loss territory. Also means Montes de Oca and Choplick almost assuredly won't be signed.
  12. We (FutureSox) follow the same guidelines as BA does on their lists: players are prospects until the attain MLB rookie status levels (a combination of games played, time on roster, AB/IP and the like). Semien, Johnson, Abreu of course, and a few others have "graduated" from our offseason list for this reason and are not prospects in that proper sense.
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Could do with walking a few less but yeah, he should be next up He was just flat-out dominant for a long stretch, but came back to earth a bit for a while. Still likely the next RH reliever up though. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) It's the back-up QB syndrome here...most of the Marcus love was actually Beckham frustration/apathy in disguise. Not really, at least not for the people paying attention.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 07:38 PM) Soon. I think there was a desire to possibly wait til after the trade deadline with the moves that are sure to be made. That's the current discussion, yes. We'll get the wheels moving pretty soon, but not finalize the list and publish until just after the 7/31 deadline. This year in particular, there is a strong chance the Sox will acquire prospects in a trade or two.
  15. Also for anyone who wants to know, see the 1st post in the thread, and the link to the Draft Tracker on FutureSox.
  16. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) White Sox sign 28 draft picks! http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...me/carlos-rodon um... that was an article from June 11th. They've signed 32 at this point, Rodon would be 33, and at least one (Davison) declared he isn't signing. Welcome to July.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) Presuming his D remains poor, any thought to switching positions to see if they can get something out of his hit tool? Not sure where. 1B is already very taken. DH is just best-other-hitter, and he's not likely got THAT good a hit tool (he is drawing more walks but still isn't terribly selective). I doubt he has the athleticism for anything else, and has been a catcher his whole career. Basically... I doubt it.
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Yea, De Oca is who I meant. Thanks. So how do you view that Winston-Salem slot for Rodon? When Montas went down and they didn't promote Dykstra, I had a feeling they were holding the slot for exactly this reason. For a guy like him, and the way the Sox do things, the aggressive assignment isn't a big surprise.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) Has phegley been putting up a constant low-.800's OPS this year or did he start off poorly and catch a groove lately? Neither. Started hot, cooled noticeably, now is roaring back again. Also worth noting, just before his current hot streak, he was benched a couple games due to an unspecified "mental lapse", per manager Joel Skinner. Probably nothing, but thought I'd add that.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Do we still have a shot at that #11 guy? Or does it depend on how much $$ is left after this signing? You mean De Oca at 15th? Highly unlikely, he was looking for 7 figures, and it looks like he was the backup plan for Rodon. Choplick (32nd) is also an overslot candidate but not nearly as over, so depending on what Rodon signs for, we may get him.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) I believe it is 1 full years worth of service time before he is eligible to be sent to the minors. Confirmed. Also, I'll tag this again - A look at the Sox internal catching options. Stats are a little stale now, but the basics in there all still apply. At some point soon, I'd be all for sending Flowers away and giving Phegley one more shot, with Smith going to AAA. My only hesitation is, I am not sure how Phegley's defense has improved, if at all (or his pitcher handling). In any case, giving him a 2nd audition, splitting time with Nieto, should be OK for this non-contending team.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Excellent...it's happened at least 3 times this year Don't. Stop.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) More smoke... https://twitter.com/jgravleyWRAL Nice find, I RT'd that from the FS account. Thanks for digging it up.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) If Sox trade Dunn, I wouldn't be opposed to see Wilkins up. Wouldn't be the worst thing, but I'd rather they bring up one of Saladino or Sanchez to mix in the infield and get DH time.
  25. Something is significantly wrong. First step at this point should be, he needs to be shut down for a bit. Then maybe go to AZ and do some side work with the coaching staff and trainers to try to drill down into what is going on.
