  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 19, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) G-F mostly highlights pitchers to watch, but Micah Johnson will be a nice little hitting prospect to follow down there. Tough day for Abe Ruiz in his first professional debut. Speaking of that... one of my AAP's, Keegan Linza, is apparently now a starter? Or at least at this point he is. Might just be keeping the spot warm. Had a decent outing.
  2. Wait... are they really converting Brandon Kloess into a starter? Since that one game they pitched Kloess-Rem-Kussmaul-Bellamy, I just figured it was a bullpen day. Are we saying that Kloess is actually a starter now?
  3. They have Zach Stoner listed as a catcher. Seems odd to bury your 12th round pick at a non-native positions behind a guy like Barrazza who is clearly your starter.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) Guess we have JPN's answer about who would jump into the BIRM rotation, at least for one start. Kloess. Not really... just an empty-the-bullpen day: Kloess, Rem, Kussmaul, Bellamy
  5. We get those #14's (fuzzy eyebrows we call them) in the house here. Not even sure what they are - centipedes, millipedes, or something else? What do they eat?
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) Kevin Goldstein did a "Projection of category leaders" for 2012 draftees. Basically, which player who was just drafted is the most likely to lead the draft class in each stat....... He picked Courtney Hawkins to lead the 2012 draft class in Homeruns.... I'm not sure I put Hawkins above Mitchell just yet. Hawkins is a high schooler who hasn't seen a pro pitch yet. But he is, at worst, the #2 prospect in the Sox system.
  7. QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 12:43 AM) NNS72, do you think Remenowsky will ever make it to the big show? I mean his K9/BB9 and control as you say have always been quite good. At one point in 2010, I felt pretty confident he would. He was putting up sick K numbers with superb control, and moving up through the system... then he got hurt in 2010 (knee injury on a fielding play at 1B), and missed some time. 2011 he went to B-Ham anyway, and started off strong again, so it looked like he was past the injury just fine... and was promoted to Charlotte. At that point, I would have said there was an 80% chance he makes it. Then, he kind of fell apart in Charlotte. He's said he ran out of gas that year - he pitched a lot more innings than the year before because he missed time. The question I had was, was this the hitters catching up to him, or him hitting a wall in terms of exchaustion? Unfortunately, for an older NDFA guy who barely hits 90 on the gun, he didn't have room for error. At this point, I'd say his chances of making it are closer to 20%. Maybe a little better. The make or break is, if he gets to AAA this year, how he does there. If he puts up numbers like he has up through AA, then I'd say he'll get a good shot, if not on the Sox then with someone else. If he struggles in AAA again, or gets buried and never gets promoted, then its probably over. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 01:28 AM) Remenowsky seems like one of those guys like Wasserman with the unusual build or delivery and without great stuff that never quite seem to make it....Ehren had the advantage of the diminished depth on that 2007 roster, but Remenowsky's going to have to leapfrog over about 5-7 guys. Then you have to factor in this week's draft class, someone like Beck and Hansen will already be jumped ahead of him, when they sign. You've also got guys like Bruney, Heath, Doyle, Axelrod, Castro. Infante, at one point, was very highly regarded, although he's clearly slipped. Jhan Marinez, Omogrosso (possibly), Shirek, Leesman...he would just have to go on an incredible run to put himself into consideration. With the way Veal and Septimo have pitched, they would both factor in, too. Maybe if Crain's dealt, he will get a closer look, but the odds of that happening aren't very high. The Wassermann comp is limited. Both NDFA's, neither threw much above 90, neither were considered "real" prospects on entering the system. But they are vastly different pitchers. Wassermann's game was the submarine delivery, downward movement on his pitches, and being really tough on righties - but he really only had two pitches. Remenowsky isn't a ROOGY, his arm motion is pretty standard (legs aren't), he can throw 4 pitches consistently for strikes, but doesn't have the sort of weird angles and movement that Wassermann had.
  8. Remenowsky's been pretty filthy in B-Ham this year: 1.95 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, .138 AvgA, 9.8 K/9, 3.2 BB/9, 3:1 K:BB. Time to give him another shot at AAA, see if last year's performance up there was a result of the big increase in innings (39.1 IP in 2010 until injury, then when up to 67.1 in 2011).
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) http://www.montereyherald.com/sports/ci_20...league-baseball Heh. He thinks Bristol is the one in Connecticut. The one with ESPN. He'll be disappointed when he's in Tr-Cities Virginia/Tennessee.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 11:19 AM) I don't expect him to stay long if Fuku stays out. You're really throwing a wrench into the development of a potentially starting-caliber player. Would have been great to see him finish the year in AAA over .300, etc. He may have even had trade value. Hard to throw a wrench into his development when he's 26 and in his third year in AAA. He's an ideal 4th OF though... plays plus defense, has played all three spots, has a little speed, and occasionally runs into one with the bat. And all for cheap.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) Fun video clip from the Hawkins pick, including a split screen of Kenny freaking out when he does the backflip, and then getting on the phone and telling Hawkins no more backflips. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=22072073 That was a fun watch, thanks for digging that up.
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) That's hilarious. Any good though? It seems like nearly all the B'Ham relievers have terrific BAA, and very good K rate, but they walk a few too many. SR, DR, BKloess, R Kussmaul all qualify. Anyone of these guys a future big-leaguer? After the Nate Jones experience this year, I want to see anyone with a serious arm get a chance to work with Coop. Rodriguez has big velocity and good movement, but has struggled with control during his career. He's got a lot of raw talent. Remenowsky doesn't top 90-91 at most, but one of the Sox development people once said he could nail a gnat in the ass on either side of the plate. Can also throw 3 or 4 pitches for strikes consistently. Kloess and Kussmaul, I really know very little about their tools or pitches.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:19 AM) Looking at the box score it looks like he was ejected I didn't notice that. Interesting. JPN, any info?
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) Wow, Danks is ripping up AAA right now. He's had great patience throughout his career, but the power is finally showing up. I hope he's ready to not play everyday. Still striking out more than 25% of PA though, in his third year in AAA. I really don't think he's a starter, so I have no issue with him coming in as the 4th OF.
  15. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) THIS GUY I love this picture. Looks like he is either failing an eye exam... badly... or he suddenly realized he smoked something other than what he intended to.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) I think coolest name may go to the Dbacks selection of Stryker. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Skye Bolt. Still prefer Storm Throne.
  17. Phegley with a 9 game hitting streak, average in the .290's now. Haddow's 18 game hitting streak finally ended with an 0-5 last night. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 07:39 AM) Homer and a double, up to .235 right now. Then, oddly, lifted for a pinch runner.
  18. Post any updates anyone has about signings and negotiations here, and we will update the first post as we go along.
  19. And with pick 1221, Sam Mason (HS RHP from Beverly Hills), the Sox draft is concluded. The draft picks thread, pinned in this forum, is updated. I am going to OPEN the thread, and we can use that for signing news and updates. We will keep the OP updated.
  20. Pirates drafted a guy named Zarley Zalewski. Is there a correlation with advanced athletes and parents who need attention? I think so.
  21. In 38 picks so far, we've drafted 5 guys named Zach/Zac.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) Bravo to Robin! If your catchers are both among your nine best hitters, then find a way to get them both in the lineup. I might have gone with Dunn at 1B since he has more experience, but then having Flowers in the field prevents you from losing your DH if something happens to AJ and you have to move him behind the plate. There ya go. And I agree, glad to see Flowers get more AB's when the opportunity presents itself. They need to know if this guy is ready to start in 2013. That said... it does seem like Lillibridge hasn't seen enough playing time.
  23. I despise the nepotism picks, but, it seems like Savarise is at least a guy who has put up impressive numbers. And it was in the 30's rounds. Anyone else noticing the school repeats? I suppose it is natural, you can only visit so many schools and players... but you'd think in the modern age of technology, you could diversify a bit. Here are some repeat schools so far: Arizona State: 2 New Mexico State: 2 Delta State: 2 Archbishop McCarthy HS: 2 ASU is a pretty serious baseball progam... but are Delta State and NMSU?
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) Kannapolis Intimidators ROSTER MOVE: Catcher Kevan Smith has been placed on the DL today, so we've received Kevin Dubler from the Birmingham Barons. That sucks. He was just starting to get hot, and he is a guy who probably makes the top 25 in the system. Anyone hear what the injury is?
