QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) UDFA http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=2619284 OK, the Wisconsin thing was itching at me, now I remember. Thanks.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:02 AM) Justin Jirschele.. having a hell of a start to his professional career. Hasn't even K'd yet in 17 ABs. Who is he? Not drafted by us, must be an NDFA... but he's only 22. Can't find much on him. Weird.

Veal and Septimo have similar numbers, and similar control issues. But Check the L/R splits... Septimo is death for lefty bats, Veal is actually better against righties. Also, Septimo has seen his control improve since he got into the sox system, and as this year has gone on. Give me Septimo over Veal.
-
Septimo is the guy I'd like to see, his splits against LH are nasty, and his control is improving. I don't want any of the guys starting to go to the pen, and Hernandez needs to stay in AA. And I'm assuming it will be a LHP. That leaves Veal and Septimo. Veal is on the 40, but he's actually been better against righties than lefties.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) Shoemaker update: For the life of me I don't know what this guy has to do to get promoted. So far this year Brady is 2nd in the Carolina League in BA (.340). He's 2nd in HRs (14), 1 behind teammate Trayce Thompson and one other guy. He leads the league in RBI's (59). He has a .427 OBP. He was selected to the Carolina Lg All Star team (being an all star is pretty much a mid summer annual event for Brady). He had a couple of hits in the game and won the HR derby (defeating C J Retherford). C'mon White Sox, give this guy a break. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:00 PM) I really wish KW would promote the kid to AA. He really has nothing left to prove in Single A. This has been discussed many, many times. There is a logjam of outfielder's. KW Jr is taking up space in AA. Shoemaker and Earley are stuck in W-S, and Haddow is stuck in Kanny, until something changes. Maybe if they can get rid of some of the flotsam in Charlotte, that can start a cascade of promotions. Until then, everyone is stuck.

Terance Marin turns out to be human. Salvador Sanchez, the OF-to-P, is now pitching with Kanny.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) Not White Sox related but I really love tracking Billy Hamilton of the Reds organization 92-111 in steals through just 72 games... http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t...&pid=571740 Wow. Still only 21 in High A and putting up decent OBP numbers too. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 03:16 PM) Wilson has played outfield exclusively since Walker hit the DL. But historically, he's an infielder, which I think is what I said. That's why I'm saying it makes sense to promote someone who is truly an OF. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) D.J. Jarrad and Andrew Douglas from GF to Kanny. That leaves the Kanny roster at 26 so someone else is out of there. I would guess it's a pitcher to go to W-S unless one of their hitters got released. Douglas is a backup OF, Jarrad is a SS/2B. Jarrad takes Herbek's place, I'd assume. The current OF's on Kanny's roster are Haddow, Pugh, Rice and Walker. But Walker is on the DL, so, makes sense they are bringing up another body for the outfield, and only Walker and Haddow are anything other than filler. Wilson has been playing out there, but he's really an infielder. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) No, it's not...watch every PA where he doesn't hit the ball hard...he immediately tosses his bat in disgust and then hardly bothers to run out of the box...I think he's more frustrated than in pain. And that's pouting like a little girl? He's frustrated, he does that, I don't see how that is related to your comment. Could be pain, could be just a bad streak or regression. If its the former, see if a little rest can help, give him a few days off. If its the latter, he has to play through it. Either way, the last thing anyone would accuse PK of is "pouting like a little girl". Have you heard him complain even once?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) Why keep Hudson over Johnson? They're going to have to upgrade the SP if they want to win this thing and Viciedo would be a candidate to go. Let's see what Johnson can do in the meantime to give the lineup some added depth. I can see that argument, if you are keeping Escobar on the team (which I think they are). Escobar can field all three skill positions on the infield well, and Danks can play any OF position, so you are pretty well covered. Johnson plays 1B, can DH obviously, and probably cover 3B or corner OF in a pinch. I'd be fine with him over Hudson. But your second graf there makes no sense to me. You want to trade Viciedo for SP, and have Johnson start? See my earlier post, Johnson is not a major league starter, not to mention Viciedo is just starting to come into his own, is already better and would be a lot better, and is cheap going forward.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) Yes, I did indeed think that Lillibridge had earned a chance to play vs. lefties, especially since de Aza had never demonstrated an ability to hit lefties very well. Alejandro has been terrific vs. RHP, and I'm very happy to see that lately he seems to be improving versus lefties, especially now that Lillibridge is gone. Of course, I don't regard Johnson's stats as projectable to the Major League level. But an OBP of .467 should project to somewhere north of .350, which would be a significant improvement over Viciedo's .300. At the same time, he still represents a power threat, which is about all Viciedo really is, at this point in his still very early career. You can't project that way for someone like this. This isn't a prospect who is in his first try at AAA, at age 22-25, putting up those numbers. This is a 32 year old playing is EIGTH season in AAA. He's also played 399 games in the majors, he hasn't hit above .200 there in three seasons since 2007, and has only hit above .236 once, in 2005. Trying to take his AAA stats and project them is just meaningless at this point. Johnson is insurance on Konerko and Dunn, as he should be. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) NSS, Balta and myself disagree thank you sir.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:58 AM) I have a feeling if he doesn't play through it, surgery is the only option and then he's out for the year. Maybe not. They already moved some stuff around, so if he rests it for a few games, he may be OK for the season. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:58 AM) I think it's more mental than physical...he's pouting like such a little girl. That last part was supposed to be green, I assume?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) On May 22 they were the same old Twins, rocking Gavin for 9 runs. And that was Bad Gavin. Last outing makes me think we may have Good Gavin back again. Against not the same Twins as in previous years. I could be wrong of course, but I think that combo means a solid outing for him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) http://dashboard.mlblogs.com/2012/06/26/da...ne-promote-two/ The Herbek promotion is a little strange. He's a middle infielder, and Sanchez and Semien are at those positions in W-S. Plus Herbek just wasn't hitting well at all. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) I was thinking the same thing this morning, that Gavin may be set for a patented hot streak. But then I was reminded of this stat. The Twins own him. Yeah, but these are not the same Twins. And M&M aren't exactly having big years, at least by their standards.

Gavin had it dialed in last start, finally. Got a good feeling the Sox win in a romp tonight.

Some nice starting pitching all around the system today. Devenski doing quite nicely for a first start. Kevin Moran, at Bristol, has 2 appearances so far, to the tune of: 0 IP, 0 H, 7 ER, 6 BB, 0 K, 3 HBP and 4 wild pitches. He's faced 9 batters, and he's either walked or hit every one of them. Yikes. He was the 9th round pick for the Sox in 2010 out of BC, had a good 2010 in Bristol and Kanny, a lousy 2011 in Kanny, and now he's back in Bristol throwing like Wild Thing.
-
One day game, the rest tonight... B-Ham beat Miss 9-5 Pedro Hernandez 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (Not sure why he went only 4 innings and 51 pitches) Erik Morrison and Seth Loman with 2 hits each, Loman with a HR Mitchell not in the lineup, KWJr played CF

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) Three pitching mismatches in this series, IMO. 2 of 3 at a minimum, sweep would be nice. Liriano isn't as outmatched as his overall season numbers indicate. He's been strong lately. But I agree that 2 of 3 is a good result. With CLE and DET playing at NYY and TEX respectively, the Sox have a big chance here to gain some ground.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) Comparing Nolan's films and their casting with anything pre-Nolan is pointless. Also, I don't know what you are referring to with the "5th" movie. If you call it all one franchise, that would be "Batman Begins" which was incredible. Hm, I might be wrong on 5th. The first two were the Tim Burton ones, those were good (first one was great). Then there was a Val Kilmer one, and a George Clooney one... yeah, you're right, there wasn't another one there before Nolan. Change what I said to be "3rd and 4th". Those were terrible.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) I stopped questioning after The Dark Knight. I was against Ledger as the Joker, and obviously that was a tremendous performance. This has been a habit of the entire franchise. It started with Mr. Mom playing Batman, which everyone thought was a horrible decision, until they saw the film. Though, there was that detour in the 3rd-5th movies that were just awful, but the cast was the least of the problems there.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) Last year Septimo was on the 40 man roster; not so this year. He's prob one of those guys who will have to be promoted at end of year or risk losing him in draft. Non-issue in this case. If he comes up before September, its because one of Thornton, Ohman or Santiago got traded/released/sent down, in which case a spot opens up anyway.
