So UConn is likely in. WV, I am not so sure. Seton Hall and USF on the bubble. Lots of other conference tourney action left, with a bunch of other bubble teams. If teams like Texas, NW, Colo State can win games in their tournies, I think one or two of those four marginal Big East teams doesn't make it.
-
I think UConn and USF really need wins to clinch a bid. And if UConn does beat WV, then WV is on precarious footing, depending on how other tournies go. Basically, I doubt all three of those teams get in, more likely 1 or 2. Anyone else think different?

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 11:31 PM) Will you change your mind after seeing the uniforms they are breaking out for the tournament?? Is that neon thing on the left for real? Seriously? QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 01:13 AM) ISU(Illinois)>>>>ISU(Iowa) I can't tell if this is just your annoyance with people using the moniker "ISU" to refer to Iowa State, or if you are actually trying to say the team is better. If it the latter... LOL.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) The Muslim world is going up in flames. This either bodes extremely well or very badly for the rest of the world. Short term bad, long term good.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) It's worth noting Tex that the government has many options here. It isn't limited to making it illegal to eat meat...it could, instead, end the massive subsidies that it gives to encourage overproduction of meat products, and perhaps even regulate/tax the enormous amounts of pollution and greenhouse gases given off by those facilities...thus effectively allowing people to make a fair determination as to what fraction of their caloric intake should be meat based on market prices. I'd be fine with that. I'm all for internalizing externalities, and giving people a truer picture of the costs of their choices.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) ISU will have a really tough game with Texas first. Also, Okie State is without LeBryan Nash the rest of the way. Kansas-Mizzou would be a great finale, but I can actually see a KSU-Texas final matchup to shock everyone. I wasn't aware about Nash, that severly diminishes their chances at upsetting someone.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

So... Drexel? At Large bid, or no? -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) You can subsist entirely on potatoes and milk. The level of meat consumption is abnormal. I can subsist on twinkies too. I fail to see how that is relevant to the discussion. The level of meat consumption is not "abnormal". Historically, humans had diets ranging from fully vegetarian all the way to fully carnivorous and usually various levels between, based on what their environment could readily provide. There is no "normal" or "abnormal" on the scale of how much meat vs vegetable matter people consume.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) That's actually incorrect, but I digress. LOL, OK. Prove that. But this: QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) The degree to which our diets consist of highly processed food is the larger concern, IMHO. Is more what leads to this: QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:14 AM) They are projecting that 50% of this country is going to be obese in 20 years. ... than eating meat. Also, I love this post: QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) This article does nothing to further the discourse nor does it add anything new. It does nothing to say "all meat will kill you" when that is objectively not true. Tell me what it is about meat that causes cancer. I don't doubt that high fat, high calorie, high sodium diets will kill people, but why is chicken equal to beef or to pork or to turkey when they are all very different? The reality isn't that meat kills, it's that salt covered meat deep fried in fat, served with fried potatoes and covered in sugar/salt laden sauces kill. That cannot be compared to roast chicken in herbs served with vegetables (a balanced meal).

I don't see a viable parallel here. Humans have eaten meat for eons, and it has a lot of positives. In fact, when eaten as part of a balacned diet, it is quite good for you, depending on what you have and how often. Plus, um, meat is not exactly addictive. They just aren't remotely alike. That all said, I've been saying for a while now, cigarettes are a much greater risk to public health (and finance) than marijuana, and probably worse than alcohol as well. So I have no issue with them being taxed and regulated heavily, as an offset to the public purse to pay for the effects of it.

If there is sufficient international programming for it, I would not be against the US providing air power or other assets to assist in getting it done. But I do not want to see the US be part of an occupying force, or have any large part of a peacekeeping effort there. We have too many problems at home, and as has been stated, this is a much more complicated and difficult scenario than Libya was.

Ah, my first game thread of the year. Spring is in the air. *cough cough* ahem... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) A&M over Oklahoma OSU over Tech KSU over Baylor Kansas over A &M Mizzou over Tech Texas over ISU (sorry guys) Kansas over KSU Mizzou over Texas Kansas over Mizzou MVP: TRob Texas has to beat ISU (at least) to get into the Tourney, and Texas has done pretty well against them this season, so I could definitely see them beating ISU. Should be a good game.

Remember folks, the G8 moved, but NATO and ISF are still happening here. NATO will draw protests too, that is in late May.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 09:06 PM) BOU over TAM OSU over TT Baylor over KSU Kansas over TAM Mizzou over TT ISU over UT KU over Baylor ISU over Missouri ISU over KU I'd be ecstatic. And ISU can hang with Mizzou. But, barring a horrible game by the Tigers, I think their athleticism will just be too much for the Cyclones, they just don't match up that well. Also, you have Texas Tech somehow losing during the play-in, then playing again in the next round. If I had to predict, just for fun... I know we have a general GOP nomination thread, but it is getting pretty clogged up, and this is the single biggest day of the Primary season. So use this thread for posting results and polls, and discussing what the results mean for the GOP on Super Tuesday.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) Iowa State is finally ranked, #25. Nice to see a number next to the name. f*** yeah! First time since, what, 2005?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) Because Boise State & South Florida are natural geographic rivals of course. Yeah, that is one of the many things that bothers me about this whole conference scramble. You lose the geographic rivalry aspects, not to mention saddle the schools with higher travel costs, and take the students out of their rhythm even further.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Boise is joining the Big East. Didn't know that either.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) No. It'll be 10 next year. Louisville isn't joining. TCU replaces A&M and WV replaces Missouri. Shows how much I've kept up with the conference scramble mess. If I'm the B12, I am thinking I go after BYU and Boise State to try to get back to 12. Makes sense on a few levels, and I think they both want to move up.
