Snapshot Poll: Your Vote for President
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) who picked Rick Perry? and how can you do that after his latest ad? just curious... Gotta be Tex. And I predict a 0.0001% chance that this many people actually end up voting 3rd party. -
I think you folks should ask yourself a question... what kind of rebuild do you want? What Kenny appears to be going for... I think... is a 2-3 year timeline. That's what it looks like. He's asking for near-ready talent. The alternative to that is, you tear the whole damn thing down, and start building from the very bottom, up. But here is the catch - as enticing as that idea might seem, you have to look at history, and acknowledge that teams who attempt to go that cheap and young, typically don't create a contender in 2-3 years. They end up mired in for 5, or 10, or more years. Which do you want?

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:32 AM) I don't care who replaces them. I only care about the return. The return of what? That's the whole point. The return IS who you want to replace these guys at some point. Some of you seem to miss the point of rebuilding. You are all about the demo work, but have no idea what you want to build after that.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) I don't think trading Ramirez is insane at all. I think you have to move him if you're going to move Danks and Floyd. Viciedo I think you need to keep to give he fanbase someone to be excited about if you are indeed dumping all your vets... What are you rebuilding towards? There is not a shortstop in the Sox system that has any reasonable shot at ever being as good as Alexei. And few other teams have such a prospect, and furthermore, wouldn't trade them.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) Priority one for the Sox has to be acquiring young pitching while lowering payroll. To that end, the next guys to go should be Ramirez and Floyd (Thornton has few takers). If the demand isn't there for Danks, keep until the break. To get a blue chip pitching prospect I advocate shopping Viciedo. Ramirez? Viciedo? Insane. You have to rebuild around something - young talent, specifically. Santos was similarly young and cheap and valuable to other teams, but you seem to miss a very important piece of the puzzle here - Santos was easy to replace in-house. Ramirez? Viciedo? Who will replace them?

Did this some months ago, doing it again now. Want to get one more pre-caucus and primary season read on people's thinking in here, and maybe spark some discussion as to WHY YOU LIKE THE CANDIDATE. This is not the thread for posting news stories or embarrasing moments on tape. It is about who you think is best, and why. I'll probably do another one after IA and NH.

QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 10:42 AM) Danks and Konerko will be traded to the Rangers. Your guess? Or do you know something?
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) I wonder what they do with Kendry Morales now. Trade him to the Cubs? Or one of a few other teams looking for 1B's.

Terry Doyle taken by Twins in Rule V
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But its OK, we protected f***ing Duente Heath. And not Doyle. Everyone else can b**** about the return for Santos, but to me, THIS was a f***-up. Can someone, anyone, tell me why Duente Heath was worth a 40-man slot, while Terry Doyle was not? -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:39 AM) Well you can't expect a pitcher a year removed from rehab for a major injury to be better that would just be silly. People never pitch better after strengthening thier shoulders. So there's no reason to expect him to better this year at all. I'm tired of people ripping a guy who had a major, unique injury to his throwing shoulder for trying to pitch. The guy worked his rear end off trying to help his team and he gets nothing but complaints. I know I've said it before but I would rather have a competitive guy like Peavy who refuses to give up as opposed to a guy like Mark Prior who rfuses to pitch because of soreness in his shoulder. Thank you. I can't believe people expected him to come out in 2011 and be back to full strength. This is the pattern with major surgeries for pitchers... he was injured in 2010, gone. 2011 was his rebuilding year, so he was inconsistent and struggled. It is that 2nd year after when pitchers tend to really get back closer to normal. That would be 2012 for Peavy. Of course it may not happen at all. But history says 2012 has a decent chance of being a decent year for Peavy. -
Mark Buehrle Appreciaton Thread
NorthSideSox72 replied to Whitewashed in '05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Pretty much everything to be said, has been said. Thanks Mark, for everything. Just won't feel right without you on the team. -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) What's nuts about that? Gay people are trying to make it illegal for me to marry my girlfriend. I can't tell if this is supposed to be sarcastic. If it isn't, then I don't get it.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) And that was a great call. I'm proud of JR for letting it go. I really can't be angry with any of them. Right call for Mark to keep giving the Sox a shot to be in the ballpark, and right call for KW and/or JR to say they can't do it for that money. -

NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just want to add, according to multiple reports, after Marlins made the insane offer... Mark and agent contacted the Sox one more time to give them a chance to make a contending bid. KW said thanks, can't do it, good luck. -

Well hell, for 4/58, I don't care of KW was able to make his trades first or not. I love Mark, but he isn't worth that risk. Florida is out of their minds doing this, and the rest of the disaster they are staging. That said, I will stand and cheer for Mark on his return to The Cell. Classy guy, and one of my faves of all time on the Sox. I hope he does great, except against us. And I can't blame him for taking the deal, even with the circus. Sounds like most teams were offering 3 years, in the $36M-$39M territory. Kind of hard to turn down $20M guaranteed. Like fathom said, if he went for 3/36 or something, then I'd be more pissed at KW. As it is, better we didn't sign him. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Now the Marlins are denying wanting to trade Hanley. What the hell is going on down there? Marlins being Ozzie.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) to Hanley's credit - the Marlins are dips***s for signing a WORSE player to play SS than the one they already have. If I'm Hanley I'm pissed too. I only partially blame him, I mostly blame the organization for acting like a lotto winner who had two bankruptcies previous to winning. Disaster is where this is headed, IMO.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) The thing I don't get is that the new Marlins stadium is supposed to be a massive pitcher's park. Why would two potential HOFers in Pujols/Fielder want to go play there and have their numbers die? In the end, I'm not sure either actually will, and that may have played a part.

Chicago has yet to have measurable snowfall this season. This makes it, already, among the 10 latest years for first real snow. The latest ever is December 16th. There is currently no significant snowfall in the 10 day forecast. We might set a record.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) Now the Marlins are saying they want to trade Hanley. Those guys are just a disaster down there. Perfect for Ozzie. They go and trade for Reyes and say he is the shortstop, without even seeing if Ramirez would be an ass about it (which most people would have predicted he would be). They are looking to go to a $100M payroll, banking on a new stadium, while their fan base is laughably weak and unreliable. It will be interesting to see how ugly things get for them in 2-3 years.

Thanks everyone! QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Your birthday present was a decently sized prison sentence for Blago. I wont get anything that nice for my birthday sad.jpg I'll take it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage. Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again. I'm Rick Perry and I approve this message. But hey, it's totally unfair to characterize this crop of candidates as a bunch of ridiculous nuts. Perry, Bachmann, Cain and Santorum? Yes, ridiculous nuts.

QUOTE (Cali @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) I complained about the lack of excitement this off-season and hoping that the Winter Meetings would ramp it up a bit. So far the biggest story has been the Santos trade and that was hardly a blockbuster. No crazy trades, None of the Big 4 Free Agents signed (Pujols/Fielder/Buehrle/Wilson) Come on baseball! KPe. Its all been stored up, now the earthquake is coming. I think we'll see a whole rash of trades and signings in the near future.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) @GordonEdes Gordon Edes White Sox, Red Sox meeting on Danks, Floyd tick tock, tick tock... does a deal get done in time to turn around and call MB's agent?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) You skew it your way, I skew it mine. I don't want to continue this nowhere argument, especially after the Balta/SS2k5 comparison. Whatever, Balta. Or are you the other guy?
