  1. So, how did the 14 innings go for your baby? I'm sure you left early.
  2. When I saw Axel's numbers I was thinking of the same thing - where does he fit in the picture? I'm going to guess that the Sox find a way to re-sign M56. I also think they see Sale as a starter long-term. Which would mean next year's rotation would look something like: Buehrle Danks (unless traded in the offseason) Floyd Peavy Sale Humber That's already six. Then there are Zach Stewart and Dylan Axelrod, who could very much compete for any open rotation spot if one opened up. That is actually some very good SP depth the Sox have going into the offseason... which makes me 80% sure that KW is going to trade a starter, probably Danks, in the offseason. I posted a tidbit on Axelrod's stuff a while back, but now I can't remember the details.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 02:57 PM) “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said in Philadelphia. “Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.” So he wants to shoot people who have knifes! What else could he mean!!!! Yeah, now that quote I do see an equivalence with. Neither that quote nor Perry's was Presidential or appropriate.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Didn't he more correctly say that doing it any more would be treasonous, not that having done so already was? He said that doing it again would be "nearly" treasonous. He didn't say it was treasonous what he already did.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Make that 3/12 http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/po...alse/order/true Sadly, AJ would do no better, maybe even worse. But Tyler likely won't be as good as AJ in terms of average, or in terms of handling the pitching staff. Lucy can do the latter, but not the former. The biggest loss here is the LH bat that was hitting near .300.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Like I said, this thread is the chance to crap all over the GOP, just in a narrower respect than the Dem's only thread. It is a completely obvious attempt at doing so. The next time you would post "good" GOP news of the day, would be the first time. And that is the whole point of this thread. You could at least not insult people's intelligence by pretending otherwise. You are saying this despite the fact that the thread only became this general topic like 10 posts ago. It is like you are trying to paint one party the victim before anything has even been said. You want something other than a cat box, do something about it. Post something good. Make conversation. Ignore the one-liners.
  7. Well that's not good, especially with Castro out. Lucy can play D but can't hit a lick, Flowers can't play D and is an unknown in terms of how he will hit. Hopefully this is just 15 days. But I'm not ready to say it is a season killer yet.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) The problem is that the concentration of posts is negative, and it is almost all from the left wingers in this group. It makes the thread pointless, and intelligent conversation impossible, because the whole point is to poison the well. Then try to post something positive. Try to make good conversation. I tried, only to get shouted down by Republicans, when I was trying to say good things about a Republican candidate. So don't give us this victim stuff - it is an important topic that seems like it deserves a thread.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) I'd much rather have it that way than this. Apparently the only reason this thread is here is for cheap shots. I actually kind of like having a thread to discuss the candidates. No surpise that people in BOTH parties will mostly be posting negatives about any given candidate. Honestly, this isn't even a left vs right thing. Other than my making a comment about Huntsman the other day, how many posts have you seen from ANYONE in this forum that speaks positively about any candidate yet?
  10. Well you already made a good decision on getting club seats - perfect if you have a kid. Quick shelter, nicer bathrooms, place for them to crawl around if you want them to, etc. We took our daughter to her first at 9 months, club seats, worked out great. They will inspect your bag and bottles, but no big deal. Bring water too, if your kid is old enough to be drinking it regularly yet (I can't remember anymore exactly when those things start to happen), you can even put it in a bottle. Also, make sure you bring a blanket or towel or something to set the kid on to change diapers, because there are likely no changing tables in the bathrooms that I recall. Also also, watch out for a reaction to the fireworks.
  11. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 09:23 AM) I think the Nats will be fine once they peel themselves from the bottom. I want TB to thrive, and my family has a summer (winter?) place down in Seminole, so that may be for selfish reasons, but the Trop is a pretty hideous place for baseball. I was pretty excited when they came up with this concept art: I just get the feeling that nothing will ever come of it until the FL economy picks it up (and if the team is still around). Kind of a cool concept there, using birdair fabric for a roof instead of steel... except with that peak there, the rain would just come in with the wind anyway, so I'm not sure it is practical.
  12. By the way, we are not going to Cleveland. They are coming here.
  13. QUOTE (Jocelin @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 08:41 AM) Most of all I'm afraid of clown they terrify me so bad that I go off into hysterics when I see them Welcome to the board!
  14. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) Kuhn was hitting .365 in August. This makes absolutely no sense. People seem to think it's the playoff roster thing, maybe to let them play longer. Seems weak to me, jerking Kuhn around again. Furthermore, who is going to catch in Charlotte? Is Castro about to start a rehab assignment, or is Lucy going to play full time?
  15. There are the south side classics, but if you want the unusual... a north side bar usually populated with hipsters that, oddly, is also a Sox bar: Lemmings on Damen in Bucktown. Has a very nice selection of good beers too.
  16. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) I trade everyday sparky. Up 225000 since July 8th. So you can keep saying what you want about which you know little and I will keep doing my thing. You are a trader. You trade what is happening now - you are not a buy and hold PM. By nature, your training and view are the current market. Whatever strategy you are using on EO's, this has to be true, as there are basically zero long term funds or strategies that use any significant amount of options (heck, virtually no one writes any out more than a little over a year). I've known dozens of traders in that field. Some are good at it, others not so much... but while almost all of them think they are also economists, none really are, and they are usually way off base on that type of long term view. Your experience as a trader makes you expert in market movements, technical analysis, trade ideas, and so forth. It does not make you an expert on long term market prediction - in fact I'd suggest it tends to make you worse at it. Most of the traders I know are. I also have to say, having worked at a shop that had many traders who do some version of what you do... they would have been none too happy to know one of their traders was spouting their PL numbers out on a public website (anonymous user handle or not). Are you with a firm, or on your own?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) I believe the reason "moderate" is quoted the way it is, is Kaps belief that he doesn't really stand on anything. He changes as politically prudent, so he is always in the middle-ish. If this was a reference to Romney, then I'd agree. Romney is moderate AND spineless. I don't see that sort of shifting in the wind in Huntsman's past, from what I have read (which admitedly is still limited).
  18. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Of course you like him, he is a "moderate" who doesn't stand for anything, and he worked in the Obama administration as a Republican. Since he has no spine or standing on anything and he's a "moderate", that makes him the best candidate. Do you realize how much your post is a perfect portrait of the polarization that is killing American politics? On what planet is being a "moderate" equivalent to not having a spine? Far as I am concerned, if an individual is willing to stand on their beliefs on issues even if some fall left and some fall right... that takes a heck of a lot more courage than simply jumping into the pool and shouting "see how I am a better version of all these people who feel the saying way!!!" And being a foreign dignitary for the United States, sticking with the job regardless of who the President is, takes a lot more courage than jumping ship out of political weakness. Seriously, this drives me batty, and your view that anyone who isn't lock-step with their party is somehow spineless is a PERFECT image of a major cause of our current political problems.
  19. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) Monday i am going to short the XRT and maybe even the RTH via puts. Also going to buy some 930 and 1040 SEPT puts in SPX. If last weeks lows break this thing will fall hard. Eventually we are going to 450-500 SPX. Parabolic moves always return to their origin. This one started in late 1994 early 1995 around those levels. Maybe look to buy some leaps (puts) in the SPX somewhere in the late 2012 early 2013 time frame. BTW XRT and RTH are both retailer indexes. With the consumer confidence number that came out Friday and the malaise that exists out there, I believe this is a good opportunity to make some coin on from the lack of consumer spending. Christmas season should suck this year. You cannot short these indexes, you have to buy puts. How many years now have you been predicted the bolded nonsense, stating it as if it was fact?
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) For NS: ISU student tickets have already sold out. I guess the hype machine is working. ISU tickets are gonna be a tough get. Used to be a lottery for it, every year I was there, a lot of people didn't get them.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) This is a myth. Going to alternatives does NOT have to mean any negative impact to the current economy, at all. "In translation" just means "if they do it the way I fear". QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) It isn't a myth when the policy is very clearly to stop any new drilling wherever possible. Like I said, it is a myth because you assume that is the only way. If you bothered to read my earlier posts, you would see I said exactly the opposite of what you fear happening.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) The irony is that in translation, the solution is to destroy the economy in the short term, for solutions that might work in the long term. This is a myth. Going to alternatives does NOT have to mean any negative impact to the current economy, at all. "In translation" just means "if they do it the way I fear".
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) Why? Interest rates are basically at "free money" or "we'll pay you to take our money" levels, and even using conservatives' models with the revised GDP numbers the stimulus had a strong multiplier effect. We're not going to be able to cut ourselves into serious alternative energy research. Why? Are you seriously not seeing the risks associated with the massive deficits we are running? I mean, I am not in favor of huge cuts to discretionary spending right now, but I am also not going to bury my head in the sand and not see the risks to our future associated with it. We can make some cuts, and rejigger the tax code, in a way that allows a lateral flow of money into areas targeted not because of a favor-rider for a congressman, but for something in the best interests of the country's future. I WISH, instead of the useless and illegal Iraq War, we had poured half that money (half a trillion) into alt energy, which would have had a way more positive effect. But we can't go back and change that now.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Also I'm pretty sure most of the domestic untapped reserves are higher-cost oil both for extraction and refining. And more damaging to the environment, and to people's health. But I'd still be willing to do it, if we made real investment in the long term sustainable energy plans as well. Maybe a trade? Give the oil industry virtually every permit and clearance they want for now, in exchange for them investing equal amounts into the more long term solutions.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) His solution is to stop relying on an energy source that's reached a production plateau by researching and investing, massively and stimulatively while interest rates are zero or negative, in alternatives. IMO, that is one of a couple models the Stimulus bill should have followed, but didn't. At this point, another stimulus bill seems impossible and a bad idea, but you can certainly use some of the major cuts to push money that way. And a re-write of the business tax code could help as well.
