QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) The upside and downside to adding Rios http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...?obref=obinsite 14 players in CF since 2005? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I have them all in no particular order: Owens, Mackowiak, Anderson, Ramirez, Wise, Griffey, Erstad, Swisher, Lillibridge, Podsednik, Andy Gonzalez, Terrero, Sweeney, Kotsay I don't have the stats in front of me, but, I think they may have tried Gload out there for a game at one point, and maybe TCQ as well. That could have been in spring training though. Still, that's an interesting list.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) Williams, with Reinsdorf's approval, was given the money to acquire a CF last offseason. He didn't get the guy he wanted in Hunter, and settled for Swisher. Swisher was gone, and KW went searching again, and didn't find s*** in CF (as should be expected...there wasn't a whole hell of a lot). He gets a guy he feels is similar enough to Hunter - a guy he's had interest for in the past - for free, at $12.5 mill a year for the next 5, while giving up absolutely nothing. Tell me, what would you rather have, Torii Hunter at 5 years, $75 mill while giving up a 2nd round pick to Minnesota (and yes, I'm aware he signed for $90 million; that's not what the Sox offered), or Alex Rios at 5 years, $60 million giving up absolutely, positively nothing? My mind is already made up. QUOTE (Wedge @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) What you don't mention is that Rios is 28 and Hunter is 34. +1 White Sox. Great points.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) So my friend and I are sitting in front of these 2 guys in the bleachers at the Cell on saturday night and we started to talk with them. We were just talking about stupid things that people say at the games. And my friend told the story of how when he was at a Cubs game and before the game started the girl next to him leaned over and said, "whats the score". Then the guy behind me said, "I've been taking my wife to Sox games for 35 years and she still asks me how many points do the Sox have and what period is it". LOL. Thought that was funny, anyone have a story like that. I actually like bringing newbies to the park. I brought 3 co-workers to a game about a month ago, none of which had ever been to a game, and they barely knew even the basics. Kind of fun to see them figuring it out.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) I think Bellamy would be well serverd by going to W-S for the last few weeks of the season. He's proven he can handle Kanny and due to his unorthodox pitching motion could become a middle reliever in the bigs before too long. I'd hope Remenowsky gets promoted first. Of course, I thought he was ahead of Corley too, and was apparently wrong there.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) The exact opposite because of this below. I'm not thrilled by Brandon raking for a short period of time in a huge hitters' league. Well to be fair, I had him rated higher than most well before the trade to the PCL. I just see more to like there. Carter walks a lot, but also K's a lot more often than Allen. Though I will be the first to admit, I have not seen Chris Carter in person. Also, I hadn't seen Carter's AA numbers this year - and they are pretty staggering. Maybe enough for me to not consider it such a large margin, but, I'd still take Allen.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) I love a train-wreck...he sucks at baseball again and now these pictures come out. Can't wait till he f's up again. Not that I defend Josh's choices here, because I don't, but the bolded above is one of the reasons why it is so hard to be recover from addiction while in the public's view (or even away from it). Some people want you to fail. Kind of sad that people think that way.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) His throwout rate is just as bad with John and Mark on the mound. Probably a small sample size there, as guys don't really run on those two (MB at least). And I am not saying AJ is fantastic or anything. Just that his low throw-out rate is not entirely his fault. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I'd love to have a very good defensive catcher on our team. One that can throw out base runners more than once a month. And yeah I know AJ's looked a little better lately in this area but he's still amongst the worst. AJ's troubles throwing out runners are very much effected by the pitchers he works with. 3 of the 5 starters are just downright terrible at holding runners on, and most of the relievers are as well. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Dye's arm is better than Quentin's? I find that hard to believe. I seem to have a minority opinion on that matter. I think TCQ misses his target a LOT with his throws. But no one doubts that CQ has better range (I assume), and having them both move will cause both temporary problems. So even if the arms are about the same, its not a move that makes sense.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) I'd say most of the things you're critiquing has occurred within the last 2 weeks. And you'll see the positive correlation with his average dropping during that same time frame. The defensive lapses have been amplified the last two weeks, yes. But they were there before too, and the fighting with umpires has been since early in the season. Starting to look like a trend to me. Seems like Dye is becoming a grumpy old man out there.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) What do you do with Konerko if you groom Dye next year as the 1B? Trade him? No idea. I was more or less just trying to list the reasonable options for Dye right now.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) 1B would be interesting, but I just can't feel optimistic about the chance of him being successful. Plus, I worry his offensive skills would suffer while he makes the adjustment. That does bring up another aspect. I've liked Dye a lot here, but this year, his attitude on the field seems to be bad. He spaces off on plays (beyond just errors), and doesn't seem to be making as much effort. He gets angry a lot more often at himself than I remember him doing before, and he seems to get pissed at umps a LOT now. That whole set of things worries me a little. Not a ton, but, something to consider.
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Not always. LF is generally where faster outfielders with weaker arms play, whereas RF is where most slower players with strong arms. This is why Dye is in RF and Pods/Quentin play LF. Dye needs to move to DH. This. Dye's defensive game has gotten pretty bad, but his arm is still his best asset, for what that's worth. TCQ has a worse arm, but covers a lot more ground. It therefore makes zero sense to have those two flip positions. Dye just needs to be moved to DH, or possibly converted to 1B if he can pick up that skill set.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) The Critic to start avoiding the Trib: August 31. Ugh. This does make it difficult, doesn't it? I mean, despite its flaws, the Trib is still far and away the superior paper in town. But now they go and hire this jackass. Yuck.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 01:25 AM) He has played 2B and 3B this year too. Certainly can play a bunch of positions and steal some bases. And he came into the org as a SS. Seems like he's played all the skill IF positions, and the corners in OF. If he continues to hit as well as he is now in AA and AAA, I'd have to think his bat would get him a job somewhere.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) No, jake had a legitimate concern. That is reason enough to scare anyone away. I believe it was me, and my wife, who were described in the greatest detail by Mr. Pratt last year. But I still went this year. No way I was bringing the wife again though. Didn't matter though, no Pratt, and we had a good time. Little hot though. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 05:57 PM) In honor of the lady in the picture, I made Jake Peavy (avy) stare at Gordon Beckham (sig). That is both creepy and awesome. I like it.

Justin was re-promoted to AAA Charlotte, and is now pitching out of the bullpen. His numbers from his AA stint were not very good, though they were improving a bit as time went on. So far in 2 relief appearances for Charlotte, he has picthed 7.1 innings, given up 6 hits and 1 earned run, walked 2 and struck out 5.

Does Kenny have his eye on Wagner?
NorthSideSox72 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) Have you seen Wagner pitch with the Mets??? Don't throw career stats at me. He was ran out of Houston and Philly. He was/is hated in NY. He is a locker room cancer. The above are facts. Well obviously, being a clubhouse cancer is subjective and therefore cannot be fact. But, I was not aware of any evidence of this, so if you have any, please do share. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Great. It'll wind up being me and Karko's throat skin, literally. We'll still have a full team, it looks like. No worries. We beat WSI short-handed before, we can certainly do it with 10 guys. -

QUOTE (Fedor @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Yes, but Oney also got b****-slapped by Brian Anderson's younger brother at a bar during an imprompu drinking contest (which is, btw, the real reason why Ozzie still holds a mega-grudge against Brian.) Did your read that in the Enquirer? -
