  1. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) lol, at least "limp-wristed" by-passes the filters. I guess I was just surprised, for a guy who claims bigotry against certain people in various other discussions, to see you make a bigoted statement like that.
  2. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) I hate cyclists. I live in the south suburbs and nothing gets me more steamed than seeing a cyclist riding their bike on the street when there's perfectly clear and open sidewalks just 5 feet away. I know cyclists are discouraged from using the sidewalks, but I consider cyclists to be pedestrians, no different than people on rollerblades. Another thing, out here it's usually those limp-wristed ones wearing retarded tights that are preparing for a bike race that are always on the road, even one-lane roads like Wolf road which should be the last streets cyclists should think about riding on. Another thing I hate: pedestrians in front of food stores/walmart/kmart/etc. I hate how the rules of the road gives pedestrians the right of way, and they just walk all over the parking lot, forcing drivers to stop at stop signs and slow down just to let these pedestrians cross the street. I believe cars have the right of way, not pedestrians, and that pedestrians should wait until the path is clear before walking across the lot to their cars. We all learned as children to look both ways before crossing the street, and the same should apply to pedestrians in parking lots. I always look both ways in parking lots and even run across the path so cars won't have to stop or slow down for me. I get to post this for the second time in a week, but to different posters... you managed to be offensive (limp-wristed?) and incredibly ignorant (see all you said regarding bikes and sidewalks and the law) in the same post. Good job.
  3. The best part of this thread isn't even the amazing question asked. Its that the poster who wants Beckham in the HOF can't spell Beckham correctly, even in his username.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 08:26 AM) He had the same kind of hole in his swing that Fields has. He spent basically his whole time here trying to smooth it out and couldn't ever do it (mostly his fault, partly because he wasn't given extended time to get it until this year and even then Wise poached some starts vs. RHP even though BA had no problem hitting them). Brian was a 2 o'clock hitter - he'd get all the lessons and coaching throughout the day, but come game time, he couldn't apply it. Brian didn't have one mechanical flaw - he had many, and they changed all the time. For him, it was at least partially a head case issue (as you note), but also all sorts of mechanical ones. That just isn't the same as Josh's issue. Josh's issue isn't even the swing per se, its what happens just before the swing.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 08:20 AM) So was BA. I disagree there. Brian's whole swing was long and loopy, usually - but he had different swings. And no consistent approach either. He was just all over the place. His problem is not the same as Fields', in my view.
  6. QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 04:54 AM) Not a chance. Getz is an everyday player. Fields and Nix are not. Unless this statement was backdated to October 2007, then you might have something. I wouldn't say that 100% on Fields just yet. Unlike BA, who had just an overall bad approach and swing, Fields has had success and is one mechanical change away from being a valuable hitter. Whether he does that or not remains to be seen, but, I wouldn't sentence him to that just yet.
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) I hated seeing Poreda and Russell traded, but the only thing that concerned me about the trade was what if the White Sox fall out of contention in 2010 or 2011? Do they deal Peavy? On the other hand, if he rehabs with the Barons, my wife knows the wife of his hunting buddy. I may be able to have a meet and greet with him. Russell was the least worrying part of the trade, IMO. He's been very inconsistent, and I am not sure he was going to stay stable for long with his delivery(ies).
  8. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) I'm starting to think that the trade of Brandon Allen was because Marrero was right behind him. Anyone know how he is with the glove? I really wouldn't put Marrero in the same ballpark as Allen as prospects for 1B go. Look at Marrero's numbers the last couple years. For a 1B, they aren't great. No way Marrero was pressuring Allen.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) He's been a good player for the past two months, but that doesn't make up for his inability to hit anything in May. His overall stats aren't all that good... Are you really telling me his OPS+ of 81 impresses you? He did exactly what most rookies do, who succeeed later. He started hot (April), and pitchers adjusted to him (May). The question with rookies is usually, after the first big slump, how do they recover? That is the sign of future success. And the fact that he did decent in June and great in July, to me, says he is likely to have success. I can see him being a .300-ish hitter consistently, .350 OBP territory, some good doubles numbers, good speed, high steal rate, and good defense at second. I'll take that from a second baseman.
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) Can I pitch? Hehe. You are welcome to. I couldn't get an out to save my life last year. Might have been the rain. Or not.
  11. What's really comical is the thread title asks just HO good he is, when we have two other threads discussing his Slayerness.
  12. Remenowsky got beat up again. Its funny, after Tyson Corley got promoted from the Kanny pen, Remenowsky's next outing was terrible, then he was fine. Now Burdie and Albritton get promoted, and his next outing was terrible again. I see a theme here.
  13. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) I'll let the traffic engineers determine the speed limits, not a bike rider. Had another asshole that jumped too far from the curb in a 4 lane 45 MPH speed zone last night. Just to feel safe I swerve onto the white dotted lines in order to pass him. What should I have done if it was busier and there was someone in my blind spot? Slam to screeching halt? Where should kids ride their bikes? What about grown adults with those attachments that hold toddlers behind them? You want them on the street, not the sidewalk NSS? Little kids on their own bikes, I don't actually know if the law is different, but they should probably be on sidewalks or paths when they are learning. Adults with carriers are adults, and should be on the street. They are too heavy and go too fast to be on the sidewalks. They are safer on the street. But me personally, I would never ride with a kid in the city, street OR sidewalk.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) Fernando Hernandez, Justin Cassel and Matthew Zaleski are also on Charlotte's roster. Poreda and Russell are gone so that explains 2 of those. Nunez's promotion in Richard's roster spot is spot 3. Santos, Johnnie Lowe and Miguel Socolovich moved up to Bham. Charlis Burdie and Daniel Albritton moved up to W-S. I think they have an open roster spot. Their roster is at 24, isn't it 25 down in A ball? Serafin got a well deserved promotion to Kanny. Joining him is Enrique Lechuga. Dylan Axelrod is a catcher that I have no info on, he could be another addition. FS story on the promotions Corley, Burdie and Albritton have been promoted from Kanny to W-S in the pen, and not Remenowsky. Someone needs to explain this to me.
  15. As good as Dan was in April, May and June, he had his best month of the season in July. He went on a run from mid-June until July 23rd without giving up a single run. He was finally gotten to on the 23rd with 1 ER in 1 IP, and then again on the 28th with 2 ER in 1.1 IP, but still had great July numbers: 1.88 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, .104 AvgA, and in 14.1 IP he struck out 27 batters, while walking only 3. It doesn't get much more dominant than that. His overall numbers on the season: 40 Games 4-3 W-L 17 Saves 2.09 ERA 0.86 WHIP .171 AvgA 43 IP 26 H 10 ER 2 HR 11 BB 75 K I wanted his BB and K numbers to stick out. That is a K/9 of 15.7, and a BB/9 of just 2.3. Wow. He keeps rolling. Hopefully he'll be in W-S soon.
  16. Ehren had a sort of meh July, but a large chunk of his bad numbers (3 of the 7 ER) can be traced to one game on 7/30 where he gave up 3 ER in 1 IP. Here are his numbers for the season thus far at Charlotte: 34 Games 6-3 W-L 3.76 ERA 1.27 WHIP .269 AvgA 52.2 IP 54 H 22 ER 3 HR 13 BB 51 K So he's having a good but not great season. He's 28, has had some success, but also some failure, in the majors. He's mostly shown he has no problem with AAA hitters. At this point, he'd need some injuries or trades to make the big club, with Nunez, Link and possibly Rodriguez ahead of him in line. He may get a September call-up, if there is room on the 40 man for him.
  17. Cassel's July in B-Ham wasn't great. This is the league where he won the ERA title last year. Not sure if they have him working on something specific since he was demoted, but his numbers so far in AA aren't too great... 6 Games (all starts) 3-2 W-L 4.50 ERA 1.58 WHIP .314 AvgA 38 IP 43 H 19 ER 2 HR 17 BB 13 K Note that he is walking more than he is striking out, which isn't a good sign. Hopefully Justin regains his 2008 form and gets back on track.
  18. July update finds Charlie continuing to do well in AA Birmingham. His July numbers are pretty much the same as his June numbers. Here are his stats so far at B-Ham... 9 games (all starts) 4-4 W-L 2.52 ERA 1.17 WHIP .258 AvgA 1.29 GO/AO 60.2 IP 59 H 17 ER 5 HR 12 BB 17 K His core numbers and results are very good, and his walk and hit related peripherals are solid. The only worrisome trend, which has been an ongoing theme, is the low K rate. His 17 K in 60.2 IP gives him 2.52 K/9, which is a lot lower than the ratios he had put up in Low A and High A. Its possible they are working with him on something specific that causes more contact, because his overall results are still good. If Charlie can keep up his solid results as the year goes on, maybe increase that K rate a bit, he should be in Charlotte next year and knocking on the door.
  19. End of July update finds Lucy in Birmingham after the demotion, and not even playing every day there. He's the starter, but Price is getting about every third game or so. So far in B-Ham he has a .233/.258/.233/.491 line in 30 AB, which doesn't look too good. He was an All Star in the Southern League in 2007, but now two years later appears to be struggling against the same competition. I just keep hoping he figures it out with the bat, because his defense is such an asset.
  20. End of July update. Dubler is in Great Falls this year. Similar to his 2008 campaign at Bristol, Dubler struggled mightily to begin the season, hitting well below .200 until mid-July. But this season, he started figuring it out a little bit sooner, and his numbers are improving. He's also drawing a lot more walks, which is a good sign. His full season line now sits at .220/.352/.322/.674, but its .310/.375/.517/.892 in his last 10 games. He's now getting more playing time (was losing a lot of time to Blackwood), and if he can keep up the hot bat, should be able to establish himself as still being a prospect worth promoting, possibly even to Kanny late this year.
  21. End of July update for Garrett, who finished the month in Great Falls, where they are using him as a starter. In his 14.2 IP over three starts there, he has a 3.07 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 9 K and 4 BB. Not bad, especially pitching in a band box, but we'll see if he can keep that stable.
  22. QUOTE (League @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) That seems like something that would've been mentioned. The deal was made in 37 minutes according to his agent, I really doubt that they discussed that. Oh am sure it was discussed or at least known by all parties. That is a huge issue. But no one seems to know what the details are, and Cots doesn't show it.
  23. Good deal, even a great one if we get some salary back. But what is the deal with the opt-out again? That could throw this deal back towards middlin'.
